If he's not ready for the Championship the he's not ready for the Championship. It's that simple.Under normal circumstances I could agree but with our present squad numbers and the possibility of further departures it may have been a better idea to hang on to him.
Staying and not playing for us does nothing for him and nothing for us. In the development squad at the end of last year, which is a league on par with the National League, he was okay with a few stand out performances. He clearly wasn't ready for the step up for what would essentially be three divisions above. Hanging onto him just in case isn't an option, as he was never going to be an option. This is 100% the right move for everyone, irrespective of how thread bare the squad may be or his position might be. Clearly Wilder doesn't think he's ready yet based on his comments last season and starting Seriki over him in pre-season. He's only 18 so there's plenty of time on his side.
Patience is required if you want to see young players make it to the first team. Curtis has been given a golden opportunity by joining Peterborough on loan. They have a great record for producing and developing young players. They play high tempo, attacking football, so Curtis will be encouraged to get forward rather than just sit back and defend. It's a great move for everyone. If he doesn't do well at Peterborough then maybe it's just not meant to be.
Arblaster didn't make the first team until he'd had a great loan spell at Port Vale, and we were desperate for bodies in midfield due to injuries and players being out of form. We didn't rush things and he's come good as a result. If he'd been thrown into the first team at the start of last season he'd have struggled and we'd have destroyed his confidence.
