No point in topping ourselves about him going to millwall just yet.

He might go there... but apparently wilder sounded confident about the signing when asked in the week and millwall have already picked up 2 midfielders in the close season and we appear to be the only side to have bid recently.

All we can do is wait and see. Everyone seemed convinced he was going to stay there until yesterday.

That's true, but I think there was also confidence there with regards to Holmes signing

Milwall makes more sense if he wants to remain down South. If that has no bearing then surely we can be more competitive than Milwall

As you say, all we can do is wait and see

To me the Holmes thing always seemed to be the one where he was referencing 'agents and other factors' but you could be right.

Yeah - think we are easily be sold as a better prospect than millwall. Both football wise for his career and as a club.

They have location on their side but they are also rivals and it would only annoy the Southend fans further (so hopefully that factors into his thinking.)

Would be nice to get this one over the line. Has all the right hallmarks of a decent signing (age, form, potential, experience & position where we are short)

91! Bleedin' pages. Quite frankly, I can't be arsed to scour through that lot to find the info. I'm after - Why has this lad seen such relentless interest and stubbornness from fans and boards across the country? Genuinely, what's he got that others haven't that justifies the current impasse? Anyone got a show-real, or tales of 'too good for League 1' or 'has premiership quality oozing from him' or even, something as simple as 'Southend are perceived as 'small time' so can be bullied into releasing an above average player'?

He's already bought a house up here,in Ashford in the water

It's at the stage where nobody can actually keep track of any content that has any basis or grounding.
In less than 24 hrs, it's gone from him Defoe leaving, us having put a new bid in and wilder confident.....to some saying he's Defoe going to Millwall and always was!

Now this??

Admin....shut the lot down.
It's friggin mental.

Wait, he's Defoe too? Has everyone else known this apart from me? If he's Defoe, I think we've already missed out. Typical United.

Only metalblade has said he is signing for milwall and im sure that was just a joke that some have dramatically overreacted to

I think he was taking the piss, but coolhandluke said the same.

There's a lot to take into consideration when players make a move. The guy could have a young family that he desperately doesn't want to uproot and move up north.

On the other hand, if you think anyone on here would know that while Wilder didn't- then you're a fool. CW won't have wasted the last few weeks and months chasing a player who isn't willing to even move house.

If it's any consolation, there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth on our Board, interspersed with some threats of Iron born torture of his todger for daring to put a transfer request in. The poll in the Echo shows 74% of our fans saying sell him.

What we do know, -
  1. Your last bid, believed to be £500k, was rejected straight away (Source - Phil Brown).
  2. There have been no further bids from Millwall since their £350k one was turned down.
  3. There has been no mention in the local press, or on our board, that Millwall still have an interest.
  4. Ron has not yet publically accepted Lenny's transfer request.
  5. The belief now is that Ron will sell if the price is right.

The family thing is a big point. If he's overly worried about the kids being attacked by roaming packs of whippets and getting nits and diphtheria up here, there's no chance of him coming.

There's another point we seem to be overlooking, everyone hates Millwall!

He can buy his way out of his contract, if the contact has been signed over 3 years and he's over 22 years of age I think it is, or he can refuse to work and then the club can look to claim damages against that contract.
So long as he has a contract in place which the club do not breach they do not have to release his registration which would prevent him from signing for someone else.
Either way it's a mess which is why most clubs buckle and I expect Ron will do the same, however it's not illegal to hold someone to their contract terms which they signed freely, even if that means they sit at home.
Making them train with kids could actually give the club another headache as he may make a case for constructive dismissal.

I looked into this and he can't buy his contract out now. If you want to buy your contract out you have to give notice no later than 15 days after the season finishing.

Millwall won't spend more than 500k on anyone, not least a CM now they've got Saville.

Last signings I can remember from Southend are Richard Cadette & Chris Guthrie who were both cack.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned in the 1800 (!) posts

Whilst you are absolutely 100% spot on,I think this badger is different gravy. More importantly it would seem Wilder does.

This apparent Lundstram bid, means the end of Leonard interest I would've thought

Alternatively, it was placed before he put in a transfer request and as back up / to put more pressure on southend to accept the bid since they have a publically unhappy player now.
