True but at Millwall he's probably been guaranteed starting place whereas at ours he'd be a squad player.

No point in topping ourselves about him going to millwall just yet.
He might go there... but apparently wilder sounded confident about the signing when asked in the week and millwall have already picked up 2 midfielders in the close season and we appear to be the only side to have bid recently.
All we can do is wait and see. Everyone seemed convinced he was going to stay there until yesterday.
That's true, but I think there was also confidence there with regards to Holmes signing
Milwall makes more sense if he wants to remain down South. If that has no bearing then surely we can be more competitive than Milwall
As you say, all we can do is wait and see

Millwall would make more sense, wouldn't have to move house etc.
He's already bought a house up here,in Ashford in the water
It's at the stage where nobody can actually keep track of any content that has any basis or grounding.
In less than 24 hrs, it's gone from him Defoe leaving, us having put a new bid in and wilder confident.....to some saying he's Defoe going to Millwall and always was!
Now this??
Admin....shut the lot down.
It's friggin mental.

I think he was taking the piss, but coolhandluke said the same.Only metalblade has said he is signing for milwall and im sure that was just a joke that some have dramatically overreacted to

There's a lot to take into consideration when players make a move. The guy could have a young family that he desperately doesn't want to uproot and move up north.
On the other hand, if you think anyone on here would know that while Wilder didn't- then you're a fool. CW won't have wasted the last few weeks and months chasing a player who isn't willing to even move house.
He can buy his way out of his contract, if the contact has been signed over 3 years and he's over 22 years of age I think it is, or he can refuse to work and then the club can look to claim damages against that contract.
So long as he has a contract in place which the club do not breach they do not have to release his registration which would prevent him from signing for someone else.
Either way it's a mess which is why most clubs buckle and I expect Ron will do the same, however it's not illegal to hold someone to their contract terms which they signed freely, even if that means they sit at home.
Making them train with kids could actually give the club another headache as he may make a case for constructive dismissal.
Last signings I can remember from Southend are Richard Cadette & Chris Guthrie who were both cack.
Apologies if this has already been mentioned in the 1800 (!) posts
Pinchy, beyond the frustration, what are your thoughts on the him as a footballer?
This apparent Lundstram bid, means the end of Leonard interest I would've thought
Millwall won't spend more than 500k on anyone, not least a CM now they've got Saville.
