All this is probably a load of bolloxs who really said he does want to move north?
The fact is at the moment south end currently haven't received a bid that they will accept.
All of this is supposition and speculation. It could be true but it could easily be a right load of bolloxs. I'll put forward another scenario perhaps lead by is agent.
He'd rather not move north but if you pay me X pounds more than millwall (if they really are interested) I'll move north, it's a game of cat and mouse for all concerned. Who knows the truth?

Agree 100%. The game is better in many ways today than it ever has been, but one of the many ways in which it is worse is the absolute lack of transparency around transfers, contracts, etc. "Undisclosed fees", "We're saying nothing about X,Y,Z", all this stuff is fuel to the flames of bonky madness on football forums, too. To some of us, anyhow, who can remember the game back to the 1970s (me) and before (not me), the furtiveness, and secrecy, and opacity of football today is seriously irritating. Especially at this time of year, when, apart from what Wilder is drinking in Ibiza and re-laying the Desso, there's bugger all to talk about other than transfers.

It was inevitable, probably, once sports clubs started thinking of themselves as corporations and limited companies, rather than as sports clubs, that all this stuff would increasingly be hidden from "customers." Instant, immediate 24/7 media / social-media doesn't help either. I dare say clubs daren't talk about targets the way they once did because the whole world is instantly alerted to their interest.

I should probably have posted in the "Twats" thread. Happy Sunday, all :)

Surely his desire to move North would have been established by Wilder before we even made a bid?
Also his desire to move North may well be relevant to the fee/wages/bonuses whatever.
"I've no desire to move North...........hmm, but for right incentive, I could be persuaded".
Edit: I should have read all the way to the end davidblade.

£300k is the highest bid Southend have recieved so far apparently. I reckon we'd be willing to go as high as £500-600k and if no agreement has been made at that price we'll look elsewhere.

Now I've no wish for us to pay over the odds for players but that seems an almost derisory offer for their player of the year 3 years out of the 4 he's been there. Even if he has one year left on his contract.

Suspect people may disagree but We need to actually inventise Southend to actually sell the player. For £300k they aren't going to have the cash for a decent like for like replacement so why wouldn't they just let him run down his contract that would give them the best shot at promotion next season imo.

Hopefully, we are just low balling and will then go in with £500k and sort a deal out.

Really? It's been dragging on like this and we've bid no more than 300k?

Although his wording does leave it open to the possibility that we have another bid in that they're considering.

I have no desire to see us pay a great deal more for the player just because he has been their player of the year for a few years.
This is a business, we have a budget and he has a value. If our club have decided that 300k is the most he is worth then that should be that. If someone bids more we decide if we want to compete for the player, or we move onto other targets.

I, struggling to see where he's going to fit in as a first choice player for a start. If a Coutts and Fleck are 100% I don't see him forcing either player out of the side.

Why do people believe all this shite , who the fuck is Chris Phillips what makes him more knowledgeable than Joe Bloggs.
80 % of what's written on twitter is bolloxs and 19% is utter shite.
I'm guessing only 1% has any credibility.why would people give the game away.
Agents will use it to manipulate the situation for their gain ,yes .
It's just part of their strategy it's not the whole truth,

I think the word Grizzly is competition. What happens if Fleck/Coutts don't cut in the first 10 games or so and we are dumped near the bottom of the league. September has come and transfer window is closed.

We have to have proper competition for the key positions in the team.

Not sure how you judge a team - I tend to see CM as the most important as it sets the pace/tempo/method of how the team plays. Sami for me is at the top of the diamond (ie Duffy's role). Bash can possibly fit in, but his creativity skills are limited. We need competition.

The other thing ALL of us are over looking is what happens if Fleck draws a bid of £2-3 million on August 31st?

If they want more than we are prepared to pay then like grizzly says move on to other targets.
Take last summer we wanted Kyle McFaddzen we wouldn't pay what mk wanted so he went to burton and we got oconnell instead that situation worked out better for us.

No way we would sell Fleck for 2 to 3 mill he's worth two three times that amount and if we are offered that sell him part of what we have to do is trade are way out of the division

Yep....fair point. But I think paying half a million plus to provide competition is a risky strategy.
I accept we may get a big bid from somewhere for Fleck, and if we did it would be a disaster at a time when we can replace him.
I would hope our manager will have his finger on the pulse to ensure that doesn't happen. A simple...No would do it. Followed by a response that crucial players like him will not be sold unless we can replace.

Midfield is key, it's where games are win and lost. Fleck is a crucial part of the clubs future so we cannot afford to buy a player of similar ability. We need to do it the way we managed to get him...free transfer so the high wages can be offset by the lack of fee.

Thank Pele we have players who can be linked with multi-million pound transfers....

We can all remember far too often the times when a book of green shield stamps would secure the whole team...

It's just part of their strategy it's not the whole truth,

Chris Philips is probably the most accurate and relevant contact on the internet regards this potential deal.
He's the sports reporter for the local Southend newspaper and is the mouth piece for Southend United.

It's seems Southend want an auction for Leonard to drive up the price.
Bolton and Millwall have registered their interest by asking for permission to speak to Leonard
But neither club had made any official bid.

It's all gone quiet, Southend are disapointed that United is still the highest bid at £300K
So they use their local reporter to release the news that "the highest bid is only £300K".
It's like being on EBay, Southend are hoping Millwall or Bolton will see the bidding is relatively modest and this news will encourage them make a bid.

Like all local hacks he is told what the club want him to know and no more. Of course he has more insight than most (though not necessarily all) of us but there are things going on in the background all the time and it's quite possible that what he writes is obsolete by the time he writes it,

So he's on a par with James Shield or Alan Biggs, so what another propaganda tool.

Saleable assets like Lenny don't come along too often at Southend. Although most of us accept that he will probably be sold now or in January we would much rather that he remained a Southend player for the foreseeable future. £300k for Lenny is just not enough to get him by the sound of things. So if you want him enough Mr Wilder, then offer more money, otherwise time to move on to alternative targets or wait until January and try again.

Ahh but you don't seem to understand the way it works in these matters Rootsy.

It's a known fact around these parts that when a bigger club comes a calling, you're ok to initially feign indignation, but then you must sell him for an extra fiver and a 12 month subscription to Netflix. No need for any of this long drawn-out 'Hands off!" malarkey, and there are several excuses out there to lessen the fan's outrage. Contractual loopholes and release clauses always work well, but you could also claim that Lenny got sunburnt on the golf course whilst convalescing after a bad dose of flu, and he will never be the same player again.

It's time to wilt under the 'pressure' and bank the cash in the back pocket of the Farrahs mate. You know it makes sense. ;)

He'll offer up to and including his maximum value of the player. He hasn't done that yet.

CW has said that we wont mess about.....can see a "take it or leave it" situation this week before we move on..

I'd like to see us go in with an increased and final offer this week. I'm getting sick of waiting now.

I understand and agree with Wilders Strategy but if it's true that we've only offered 300 grand we can't rate the guy so highly , why are we bothering , we want to improve our team.
I imagine Wilder would rate all of our current midfielders more than 300 grand.
I think we should put up are final offer and say take it or leave it. We may already have but I'm guessing we haven't
Value for money is important , but you don't get quality for nowt . It's time to put up or shut up.

I agree he would rate all our current midfield players over 300k....well those with more than a year left on their contract anyway.
It's a tricky situation, but rather than take it or leave it I would leave the deal on the table. Let them ponder over it and see if they can entice someone to bid more. Then we deal with that situation if it arises. In the meantime start looking at other targets and make noises that you are interested in other players.
As the end of the window draws nearer, and they panic that a player might leave for even less if they don't sell in this window they will be more inclined to accept while they can still find a replacement.

Southend are trying to play a game, they have their interests at heart and will be trying to squeeze as much as possible from the club that eventually gets him. We have to stand firm and hold our nerve. If we look desperate then we are in a losing position and make our job harder.
I liken it to buying a car. You want a Ford Fiesta and there are literally hundreds for sale. I can't afford the brand new all singing all dancing top of the range model so look at the used market where I find loads the same around a year old but with varying mileages. Do I walk up to the first dealer and pay what they want? Or do I shop around and play them off against each other to get it as cheap as possible for the best car possible in the colour I like best?
As for getting quality for nowt....I give you John Fleck.

Big difference, Fleck was out of contract .

If Fleck "draws" a bid of £2/3 million then Tufty does his impression of the laughing policeman !!!! And tells whoever it is to take a big fuck off pill ( the really big ones that you have to break into 4 pieces to swallow) and not to bother him with offers under £5million.

The bit we have to worry about is the Board will need to "grow a pair" and (for the first time in memory) say ....... errrrr no. Tufty says you cant have him !! o_O:rolleyes:

We'll wait as long as Wilder feels we need to. I'd like all our transfer dealings done as quickly as possible, but none of us have all the details around this and other deals, and Wilder is clear he won't be messed around – if Wilder's happy to keep the process going into next or the following week, fine by me.
