Only paying what we think players are worth seems an odd approach and is likely to mean we miss out on several of our top targets. The fact is it takes silly money to buy quality these days and sometimes you just have to pay what it takes - within reason of course. We should certainly be outbidding the likes of Millwall.

I am yet to be convinced we have a Board with the funds and ambition to compete. Hopefully the next few weeks will convince me that we have.
What is "within reason"? Surely that's effectively what CW is saying he is prepared to pay?

Do we wait for Milwall to bid and then add £100k? Don't think it's that simple as there are likely to be agents fees, add ons, sell on clauses and then whatever the clubs might agree the player might not want to come to us.

Really wish he'd hurry up and sign. It's dragging on now.

If not though there are good alternatives.

Adeyemi and Scowen on free transfers for starters. Coady, Saville, Gilbey, Power, Morsy and Irvine too although they'd all cost fees, some of them substantial.
smallwood from rotherham wouldn't be bad on a free either though i've heard hes going to scunny

Irvine for me.
I'm assuming he'd be one that Ricky alluded to when he said would cost a substantial fee though.
He only came over last year, and he had quite a good season apparently.

I reckon we've not done the business yet cos they'll have all buggered off on holiday.

Happens every year at this time. It's like the 6 weeks holidays for football. They'll all be at Skeggy.

Let's put this Thread in sleep mode for a couple of weeks and debate some random crap instead

Indeed, but many simply wish to perpetuate their anti-board agenda so disingenuous comments are no problem to them. Tufty's statements are plain and consistent, but they choose to ignore him.

Risible.

But the transfer window is about to close, isn't it?

We want a transfer and we want one now!!!

We ❤️ Transfers.

Don't worry it's brewing to the Transfer Motherload . In a months time you'll be exhausted from all the transfers, it'll be like going to Cosmo in town and gorging yourself silly on footballers it'll be that good.

Wilder, Kev Mac, the coaching staff and the Doctor who does the medicals need down time in preparation. They need to clear their minds and reach a state of tranquil calm before the Transfer Window cloud starts shitting footballers all over them.

Be Prepared

Millwall believe they're front runners due to location. RL has apparently made it clear he has no desire to move north. Thats from a player

Isn't 'silly money' and 'within reason' a bit of a contradiction?

Another pillock if true....hamper his career by ruling out some of the biggest clubs in the country?

It's not as if there are no roads, trains or planes FFS! Some fuckers need to get a grip

He'll change his mind just as soon as he pays Sheffield a visit.

Fair play. But I certainly wouldn't move to London for work.

And sees the demolished city centre and the complete absence of any upmarket places to eat, drink and shop?

The abundance of charity shops and nail bars and student eateries?

I hope he likes friendly people and stunningly beautiful countryside in easy reach of the city. Because that's what we have going for us.

If I were offered the chance of having a huge pay rise and enhance my reputation to go south, or stay here and stay at a similar level I would be off in a shot. He's ruling out half the country and some of the best clubs in the land. Just shows a lack of ambition for me.
It's a little different for footballers though. They work different hours, are paid very well, and it's often only for a few years maximum.
I bet if there was only northern clubs interested he wouldn't stay there would he. He'd be off in a shot for his pay rise.

You need to put a positive spin on it. An estate agent would say Sheffield culturally had a rustic charm with a large hint of post industrial 'realist' architecture .

He should be taken to Barnsley first so he has the right perspective

Fixed it

All this is probably a load of bolloxs who really said he does want to move north?
The fact is at the moment south end currently haven't received a bid that they will accept.
All of this is supposition and speculation. It could be true but it could easily be a right load of bolloxs. I'll put forward another scenario perhaps lead by is agent.
He'd rather not move north but if you pay me X pounds more than millwall (if they really are interested) I'll move north, it's a game of cat and mouse for all concerned. Who knows the truth?

Southend have only received 2 official bids so far, both bids from us.
Millwall and Bolton have shown interest but there's not a single report that they've made any bid so far

Seems to me that Southend would like an auction to drive up the price
and as confirmed by Wilder is was Southend that took this story to the press not Sheffield United.
