I am showing a great deal of both patience and respect to someone who doesn't understand but refuses to learn. It's a frustrating combination.
I would like to continue contributing to this thread if I can add anything of value to it. Sparring with you is of absolutely no value to me or to the quality of the thread so I'm going to stop. Enjoy your frustration,.

Tufty has made it perfectly and repeatedly clear that he is happy with the backing he has from the board. He has made it even more clear as recently as his last RS interview (all 12 minutes are there on the FH website) that it is his policy to pay what he thinks a player is worth and no more.

The consensus our end is that there has been a third offer from you guys which has been accepted. A figure of £700k plus sell-on has been rumoured and he is on his way for a medical on Monday. Of course, the amount may be total speculation but Ron Martin is a pretty cute at getting the most he can for a player. For what it's worth the other two clubs involved were Millwall (fee plus player) and Bolton (a postal order from their mum's account). No doubt we will all be a lot wiser later next week if it happens.

As will your hack reporter whose information was, as I said, out of date, by the time he published it...

As for the amount, as I've told you, Tufty will not pay a penny more than his valuation, however 'cute' you like to think Ron Nobody is. It will be a good deal less than the figure you suggest.

Thank you for your contribution. It's not something you needed to do but is appreciated. I hope this information is correct as he sounds like a great prospect. Good luck for next season. UTB

We're not buying this guy to be a squad player. He'll start most games.

I'd be surprised if it's above 500k though, at least up front.

Whats this Ryan Leonard got that we dont currently have in our title winning team................cant be goals becuase he has only got 3,genuine question.

Hopefully we will find out in the championship this season. I just hope and prey these players can step up to the plate. Because I kind of like the idea of taking the best players from the lower leagues and giving them a go but I think its still a risk. Not all of them will hack it. However, Wilder and Knill deserve our full backing. Even if we go back down next season, we should stick with them.

Who's place is most at risk? Presuming we play the same system, we dont tend to play with a defensive midfielder, does it suggest a change in formation?

We are certainly light in that area with Whiteman heading on loan and Basham surely now a fixture in a back 3.

As much as I think that coutts and fleck should be the midfield 2 with duffy/another ahead of them. At Championship level there are certainly going to be games where we need to dig in and play a more conservative line up with a designated defensive midfielder.

This fellas has their top performer for the last few seasons so i'm sure he's still decent footballing wise too.

I tend to disagree on it being a massive risk - Ok, players will surely have "their level" and some of the best in league one may find it to be a step too far.

But then you look at Bournemoths squad - most of them have risen through the leagues with them. Including the likes of Simon Francis who never pulled up many trees for us.

Brentford have consolidated by consistently taking the best performing league 1 players and intergrating that into their side. Woods/Bentley etc.

I think building on confidence etc can have a big say on how they perform. We have taken 2 players (potentially 3 if RL comes off) so far who were player of the year at the previous club - all at the right age with potential. To me this is the right way to build rather than players whos career is winding down

The main thing I've thought when watching him against us is that he's got a good technique, and looks a tidy footballer. I didn't have him down as that much of an athlete so seeing the comments about his great athleticism from Southend fans says to me that he's a pretty complete player.

If you scout them well and don't overpay, then the risks aren't too great. If you sign a number of them and some don't make the step up then chances are you'll more than recoup that value/money with the ones who do make the step up.

Some have a better chance of succeeding than others obviously but when you've got a player who's young, physically good, technically good and mentally sound who has consistently been a (decent) team's best player just one division below you can be very confident that player will make the step up.

We will have to show more steel in midfield this season teams would take advantage in this league .We played without a screen for the back 3;that's something we have to change a bit when we play the big hitters.
There will be games when we have to hit on the break ( we started doing this at the fagg end of the season.)the new recruits will be coming in with this in mind.
Not saying we stop playing on the front foot ( wilder won't change that ) but possession stats won't be so much in our favour so we have to be more clinical.
Not ruling out a push for promotion but the way wilder builds his teams ( fit youngish players with skill ) it's possible,I'm sure it will be another eventful and exciting season.
BRING IT ON

Apparently he corrected the tweet with the second one, it should say Not enough for Southend to accept.

I often find that when somebody offers up the 'with respect' quote, the opposite is true. But thanks anyway for the update on global reality.

Surely the following conversation has happened:

Blades: How much do you want for Ryan Leonard?

Southend: X

How do we make 3 bids and not get any accepted? Are we taking the piss with them?

I doubt any football club offers the amount of money originally asked for by the selling club. That would be shit business all round.

Cos if they don't tell us X, we might bid loads over X and they make more money

Think Liverpool not Man City...if Wilder wants him ffs buy him, he's been their player of the year, however many times of course they are gonna want over the odds. Better to pay over the odds for someone we really want or pay the odds for second or third choice ?????

Yep, let's return to the old transfer policies that worked so well.

Or shall we continue to screw top value out of every singing, leaving money in the kitty hit the next move?

And for the love of God, can we leave the game changing stuff behind, it's been done to death. :)
