Nothing on the Southend forum saying otherwise. They're still under the impression that our 3rd bid was accepted.

However many times? Tufty won't pay over the fucking odds. If you think he should, fine, but he doesn't agree. You are proceeding on a false premise. He'll be allowed to pay whatever his valuation is.
 
Really, that's why we've made three fucking bids already is it ? If there's other clubs interested he'll go to the highest bidder or stay where he is....and we move onto our second choice
 
CW has made it clear about not paying over the odds for a player. If other clubs value the player higher and are prepared to pay more for him then good luck to them and we move on to an alternative target - second choice does not have to mean a lesser player.

You said earlier that we won't have paid £700k as we won't pay more than Tufty's valuation. I'm just wondering how you know what Tufty's valuation is?

£700k is a lot of money for a League One player most of us had barely heard of a few weeks ago.
 
If they won't accept any less than a million or so I'd pay that + Brayford for Irvine.

That's with me knowing absolutely nothing about how Burton value Irvine, or the Brayford situation.

But in my football manager head it makes sense. I'm pretty sure I'd get the deal done easily.
 
Transfer record for league 1 players - Lookman 10 million, Delph 6 million and Dele Alli 5 million. Peterborough have sold a few for decent fees Gayle, Washington, Assombolonga, Mackail Smith.
If he's the one Wilder really wants would we go up to a million?

Firstly, speaking on behalf of "most of us" is a tad presumptuous, secondly, surely what matters is whether Wilder sees potential in a player, not whether he's known or not. When Wilder signed JOC, it wasn't as if O'Connell's stock was riding high, but Wilder saw a centre half in the fella and took a gamble. Great bit of business as it turned out, and so it goes on. If the signing of a player, for what may be regarded as a steep fee, turns out to be a good signing then the fee justifies itself, if not then I guess we adopt a philosophical attitude. unless of course a good moan is your preference.

Point I was trying to make, but perhaps not very well, was that £700k was a lot for Southend to ask for a League One player, who's hardly a household name.

That doesn't mean he's a bad player or he's not worth £700k.... but the way I read that figure was that it was the asking price and that might put United off as they might think he's over priced and therefore move on to a different target

Fair points, but the gap between posters on a forum like s24u, who, through their amateur enthusiasm for the game, adopt a stance that's meant to suggest that they know far more than they actually do, and those whose livelihood is based on working within the game, is usually immense. Perhaps the Southend player has proved time and again that he's worth every penny that's being asked, I guess that only someone whose job is to analyse the worth of a player, and decide if he'll make an addition to our squad that improves our prospects, will be able to assess.

As you've touched upon, a selling club will always attempt to get the best figure they can for a player they're prepared to let go. Understandably, a buying club will see things a little differently. It all depends on the financial state of the selling club and the enthusiasm of the buying club to go that extra mile in order to take the deal over the line.

£700k isn't a lot in todays ludicrous market. Look at the previous post highlighting that Everton paid £10m for a player who hadn't even got a full seasons experience.

Whilst in league 1 we lost several of our best players - McDonald, Lowton, Murphy, Blackman, Maguire. All went for more than 700k. If we get this player for that figure I'll be happy with that. Unless u wangle a free like we did with Fleck then that is about the going rate for a player who looks to have the qualities to step up from league 1

Is this guy in the category of those players you mention i.e. McGuire, Lowton etc. There's only us and Millwall interested as far as I know. How do you rate him... what's your opinion on Ryan Learnard based on what you've seen?

There's silly money banded about in the Premiership and upper end Championship, but outside of there the market looks depressed with most clubs trying to avoid transfer fees .

It's the same with every poster. Non of us have seen enough of him to comment but we still do. We paid about £600k for Done and no one was shocked by that amount, even though he was moving from one league club to another. If the bloke is decent though, and we allow him to join one of our rivals for the sake of, say, £100k, it's not particularly clever or good business.

I don't know whether you're deliberately missing the point, but you're certainly missing it. Listen to Tufty's most recent interview on the "Football Heaven" website. All will then be clear. He won't pay more than he thinks a player is worth.

I'm not sure he could possibly make this any plainer, having made similar statements every time we bid for a player, yet people carry on ignoring him and talking bollocks.

On twitter, they reckon he has put in a transfer request now, so things will hopefully start moving

I was reading this on the BBC site yesterday, about Udders and Reading.

Seems that, despite their tiny Rotherham-like budget, Udds still managed to shell out their record transfer fee at the start of the season - £1.8 million to buy Christopher Schindler. Not only that, but that fee was only the 43rd most expensive one in the Championship last summer!

A sign of what we're up against.

Players often have the last say. There doesn't have to be a formal request. Maguire, at the suggestion of his dodgy agent, feigned sunstroke.
