I've not seen this reported yet on here but due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, FIFA has opened a special window for foreign players based in Ukraine and Russia:

www.sportbible.com/football/fifa-opens-transfer-window-for-foreigners-in-russia-and-ukraine-20220308.amp.html

With the number of injuries we have, McGoldrick and Brewster missing cutting our centre forward options as one area of potential concern, we probably won't, but wonder if there is anyone who could come in for the last two months who may prefer to carry on playing outside of Russia or Ukraine?

I'm liking Erik Botheim as a forward option and colleague of Berge. Anyone you'd pick?

Send list to Bettis & Co pronto.

I mentioned this guy on a different thread.

It looks like he might be off to join a Turkish club - İstanbul Başakşehir.

They are challenging for Europe in Turkey and beat Man U in the Champions League previously.

That said, going full Pig here, their stadium only holds about 17k. They were only estsblisehed in the last 40 years but won the Turkish Super League in 2019/20. Finished 12th last year.

You'd still be hopeful if we were top flight we could attract this calibre but one to chalk off.

I'd imagine we will passively sit this opportunistic window out knowing us but it would be disappointing if we don't even look given the stakes and the current lack of options in certain areas.

We might have enough defenders after the break but a spare forward wouldn't hurt.

What about the Norwegian from Bodo Glimt on loan who just joined a Russian club but hasn't played yet? Erik Botheim. Or what about Robert Beric, 25 caps for Slovenia and just released in the JTW from Chicago Fire? No idea if these are viable but I just think we need to be proactive and not fall at the final hurdle because we failed to try.

Hal Robson-Kanu is unsurprisingly available and at 32 probably isn't quite yet ready to be taken out back and turned to glue yet. But he hasn't played this season.

Still, it would give some lighthearted opportunities to YorkBlade and Sheff United Way!

A defender
Contenders - Centre-Backs based in Ukraine (but not from Ukraine)
Solomon Kvirkvelia - Big Georgian CB, 30yo and without a club, previously touted by Leicester and WBA in 2017.
Vitao - 22yo Brazilian CB/CDM who is confirmed to have escaped Ukraine
Marlon - 26yo Brazilian Centre-Back - ex-Barcelona, OGC Nice and Brazil u23, surely too good for us?

I was thinking of us getting him even before Billy got injured.

woah… i mean i know Transfermarkt is not much to go by… but a 6.5m rated player for free?!?!

Saw this bloke when searching for potential russia/ukraine window transfer candidates, and thought he was probably out of our league. Well done Blades!!! 👏

He’s not officially retired but he doesn’t seem to be in a rush to get back into the game, doing quite a lot on LinkedIn with regards to his business interests

It’s a loan technically

realised this after posting! still… can’t see the war or sanctions being sorted by August so i wonder if he’ll be here longer, even if it is on a temp basis
Pretty sure I read somewhere he is out of contract in the summer anyway

The Premier League have blocked Burnley signing Victor Moses from Sparta Moscow due to Sporting Integrity!!

Will we now have issues with our signing??

HTH does that work with FIFA basically saying they're available???

I haven’t seen anything of this so I have no background other than what you’ve said.

Trusting to what you’ve said though I have some issues with this. Did the other Premier League teams not have the chance to sign Moses? Did they not have the chance to sign other players from Russia/Ukraine?

I could understand this if the option to sign players from Russia/Ukraine wasn’t available to all but it was. I don’t see how this differs to other transfer windows where a team opts to try and sign a player and another team doesn’t.
