Not saying give up on making good signings but hanging onto players who are proven to be your best players is almost always a better bet than the gamble of a new signing. The way to build a good team for me is keep your best players, replace the deadwood/hasbeens/signings that haven't worked out year on year for steady improvement.

It might not be value for money as yet but the only two big buys (sharp and Brayford) are probably our two best players.
We spent a bit on Done too who I still hold in high regard.

Certainly yes. He's never going to be a 30 goal a season player but he's a big, strong, mobile, aggressive bully who would weigh-in with ~10 goals in the remainder of the season - exactly what we need in the team (with Sammon failing to offer this or add any alternative value) and a far more realistic and suitable target than some of the other names being banded about. Madden, Bradshaw are undoubtedly good players but we've already got that type of player in Sharp and to a lesser degree Done.[/QUOTE]

He's a player that I've wanted us to sign for so many years but he never seems to settle anywhere indicating his attitude might be an issue. It's a shame because he had the tools to become a very good premier league striker with the right application. He is to me what Mansett is to Ricky

I saw Miller play at the fag end of last season for Huddersfield, and he actually scored a late equaliser against Wednesday. He was utterly crap though. We'd do best to avoid.

Just listened to it, it was Rob Staton. He mentioned Hanson when talking to a caller about Sammon being crap saying Hanson's the sort of player you want Sammon to be. Then another caller rang after (Ian?) and picked up on it and Staton said "he would be top of my list".
