..be nice if some of the plans for the stadium were done with 2021 as the target, especially the Kop.

Could even take a leaf out of Wednesday’s book on how to get a ground rebuilt for nowt and apply for grants..

There's the women's Euros too I think.

Thought the same thing re: ground development.

Nice thought but I doubt if any grants will be available, and if they were they should be used to improve the city's RL venue, the OLP. Even if it is chosen I can't see Bramall Lane's capacity being inadequate, or the event resulting in any structural improvements. We could even see games cancelled as the RLWC takes place during the football season

Interesting to look at the Wikipedia page. There are only 16 teams in the tournament and they are looking to use 14 venues (16 are bidding). That means that there will be 24 games played in the group stage, plus four quarter finals, two semis and the final. 31 games in all, spread over 14 venues. So most venues will only host two games, and most of the 16 teams will be smaller rugby nations like Lebanon and Tonga. Bidding venues include the as-yet-unbuilt Cornwall stadium in Truro, as well as Coventry and Doncaster. Leeds will stage games at Headingly, not Elland Rd. I don't think it's much to get excited about - though saying that, I'd say the Lane has a very strong chance of being picked.

Agree with all that and regarding capacity regarding Rugby it will be plenty big enough.

For United though it arguably could do with being about 35k now and bigger once we get to the top league.

Would like to see it done especially the Kop and 2021 as a target date to show off the Lane to the watching millions would give us the impetus we need.

If we just did the Kop that'd be fine. We should increase the capacity and rake, and offer some incentive tickets to get it filled up.

Get 3000 more on the Kop, a new Kop corner, indoor concourses. Biggest Kop in England, something for GSync to brag about.

And if we're ever a PL stalwart, that's when you do the South Stand.

Fuck Rugby, it will ruin the DESSO, and we wouldn't want to do that after how much it cost!!!

Good point. Wonder if any Rugby pitches have Desso?

Apart from Hillsborough that is.

Saying that there’s isn’t the real thing anyway so I guess the answer is no.

I’d rather renovate the Pukka Pie corner than have a new one built. Whoever designed it needs shooting, truly awful.

Rugby is a game played by men
with odd shaped balls

A new Kop built ?
Would be a good shout, but the corner next to to is a real eye sore.

Sat there once and only once, you’re view will either be restricted by pillars or the wall separating it from the kop. Seats are poorly laid out too so if there’s a lot of people there your view is now blocked by pillars, walls and bald heads.

If and when they do the Kop I would hope they’d do the corner at the same time. How that ever got to the stage of actually being built is beyond me.

Incompetence doesn’t nearly describe it and someone somewhere on the building company side and on our side should have been sacked.

From memory that corner cost about £1m to build and that was when £1m was a lot of money.

Not just my annual salary..;)

The best bit of that stand is the outside. Inside is absolutely atrocious. The wall between it and John Street is inexcusable to be honest, and the way it sits against the Kop just makes it look even more slapdash than it would anyway.

Theirs doubles as the pool for world doggy paddle championships doesnt it!??Screenshot_20180909-182647_Google.jpg
Even the fucking water looks rusty!!!!

Keep them steroid egg chasing twats of the hallowed turf. Took us long enough to fuck the cricketers off.

I’m not fan of office blocks in the corners of football stadiums, but they go ahead with one between the Kop and south stand. I think they should do the same thing at other end of Kop and get rid of that shitty corner stand altogether. It would be a lot more pleasing to the eye and give the ground a bit of symmetry and also funnel a bit more noise down from the Kop.

It would be a fantastic opportunity for Sheffield and BL to host some matches. I'm not a fan of rugby league however I bought tickets for a group stage and the 1/4 tickets at the RWC in 2013 and it was fantastic. Atmosphere is great, watching the best players in the world compete at an international tournament in your own city is also something worth watching. Best thing was the tickets cost 16 quid for two matches. It would boost our economy having fans visit Sheffield and international teams coming here as well. It's proof that we can host a competition of this calibre and it's another tick over what Hillsborough can't do.

Most of the matches are played mid week so that wouldn't be an issue on fixtures and OT/Wembley would host the latter stages. You also get to drink whilst the match is on which is a nice bonus.

Would be a great opportunity and I think we would sell out the lane easily due to intrigue and fans wanting to watch the quality of rugby on offer.

How much money has the Desso made us so far? It must be a fair few quid already, with the Rod Stewart and Rugby Word Cup game still to come.

Isn't there the women's FA Cup final as well or did I imagine that? The boxing was a big success as well, it's certainly been a good investment, in the face of much resistance at the time if I recall correctly.
Even if it's not made its money back, it's been a fine canvas onto which many a beautiful pattern has been applied over the last 2.5 seasons and for that, we should be thankful.

Rugby League is alot quicker than Union in any case and more alligned to football in that sense. Bramall Lane has 1 group game so dependent on date and teams involved its probably going to be similar to when the Blades play in 1st round of League cup attendance wise so like 6-10K. The RFL wont market the thing so unless they offer cheap or free tickets for season ticket holders its not going to break the records

I think it will be higher than that. Plenty will come down from the West Yorkshire heartlands and quite a few from Lancashire as well. I'm not a massive fan but I'll take my kids to see this.
