If Lee Hughes can command good wages after getting out of clink

Yeh, he's really played at a high level since he came out. Actually, he's a bad example, different offence and all that.

Houso, the club is burned again and again by this release clause crap and recall clauses and other concessions. Fine, Mic's explanation may be more realistic, but there were other ways - how about more cash for no knock down release clause? Doesn't stop United selling if they and Kenny like an offer, but doesn't force them to.

I'm sick of our people getting taken like this.

At the end of the day, if we make close to 500K for a player who has just come back from a drugs ban, who could have been a free agent then maybe we've come out of it as well as we could have done.

Or, to put it another way, it would as per usual be a "good deal for the club" and a bad one for the team.

True, but every contract is in the players interests or they wouldn't sign them. We should have been in the driving seat as far as Paddy was concerned as we could easily have let him rot but at least this way, we may get something back.

Probably right Mic (apart from the surprise surprise Blackwell comment !), we don't know what was agreed or not agreed this time last year when the sh1t hit the fan. Exactly, more lolly for the McCabe retirement fund.
With a bit of luck we'll get a bit more in for Billy as well.
As long as we get an ageing freebie from Barnsley and mebbes a year-long loaning for net duties, we'll be fine.
It's about building this club for the future. If you don't believe it, get along to a fans forum...

The point being that he's been away from football for some time but can still come back and get a good wage. Fair enough, his first move was Oldham, but his offence carried more stigma, jail offered less chance to keep fit and he was away for much longer.

How much more cash would it have taken to get him to forgo the release clause? At a time when the club is skint. Would that have been particularly prudent?

We've managed lots of transfers and contracts badly, but I can only think of Jags who went recently as a result of a release clause?

I suppose all this arguing is pointless anyway until he goes and we know the details of the transfer.... which we most likely never fully will.

Pesky is the word I think you're looking for.

I was saving that until tea time by when this will have turned into a brillant deal by the club, we get 750k instead of nothing next summer and, hey, he only cost us 125k so there's bargains out there. The new guy might be cheap, but he could just be the next Casillas and if he isn't it's not cost us anything. Well done Mr McCabe and the board.

Well this has certainly kicked off since i posted it this morning. Is anyone really surprised if any player leaves now? All players are greedy simple as that no loyalty to the clubs they're at and paddy will be no exception not to mention united will cash in on any player they can, like people say cost 125k sell for 750k nice profit or he would of left for free had we not got him to sign a contract. The club thinks about money not how it affects the team McCabe said at the forum we missed paddy and it affected our season so surely he want him to stay? Why put a small release clause in his contract.

McCabe said at the forum....
I do believe you were warned.

Precisely why they are talking to his agent and have scheduled meetings when he's back from Turkey (last I heard).

The southern contingent seem to not know about any release clause and suggest our friend Neil has put a bit in for just shy of £1mil.

If there was/is a release clause, Warnock would know about it.

is this clause just to allow QPR to talk, or to make a bid, surely the bid has to be acceptable to SUFC??? not just 750k and there you go have Paddy, absolutely shocking if it is

I think the problem is that there's huge differences in what McCabe wants, says and does to what Birch says and does and what Blackwell wants and gets !!

For once i will actually feel sorry for Blackwell because he only wants what all managers want something to work with.

And you call me a drama queen!

Will be very sad to see Paddy leave although it's seemed inevitable for a week or so now - the 'rumours' were all too detailed to have just been made up.

There's going to be a huge outcry about his lack of loyalty but I don't believe that a single person on here would turn down the reported £3.4m over 4 years just to 'do the right thing'.

Micalijo makes some good points (mainly because he's just repeated what I said to him on the phone the other night!), we've losing one of our better players but we're getting £750k where we might've very easily got nothing.

I just hope and pray we don't bring Bunn back.

I seem to recall that before nightnursegate, Paddy turned down a new contract. That suggests he was thinking of leaving at that point, and so the ban has merely delayed things. Such is the world of professional football, that he seems to have gained some benefit from the ban. Negotiates a one year contract in which he has a release clause inserted (his idea or the clubs, I've no idea!) which is agreed at £750k reputedly. From his point of view he could've been out of contract and gone for nowt, but he opted for the contract and the get-out. He may not have any intention of leaving and is just using this as leverage for an improved contract, dangerous game in the current climate. With all that has happened personally and professionally for him over the last few years he may just have decided he wants a fresh start.

Personally, if he goes then he goes. If we get Simonsen in as a replacement, I think we've improved things.

I've been saying for a few weeks that i'd happily have Speroni replace Kenny.

This is just starting to seem a little bit Sheffield united though, i.e. with Bennet (and Haber) leaving last week and us now having an Estonian as the back up, we decide to sell out no 1 keeper!?

If someone makes a bid for our players - we sell - no negotiating/no attempt at bidding wars - just sell.

United - selling the family jewels as always.

And you call me a drama queen!

But they're your words, taken from your analysis of every transfer deal we've ever done. Remember, your truth Houso is. If you're now saying they're the words of a drama queen.....
