Good as the squad is we still need a quality striker in the mix with Billy. He will always score but we need a striker who is first on the team sheet.

And there lies the problem

I don't see too many available decent front men becoming available come Jan

We need a striker to make a difference and the issue with that of course is, even if one does come into the shop window, we tend not to be able to compete as the big guns also come calling

Megalolz.
Wages.
We tried but.

I don't use the term Deja Vu anymore.

I say Blades transfer window target.
Everyone knows what that means.

When we're pinned back, we have very little threat.

We STILL need pace. And not pretend pace like Washington, Woodburn or Johnson. A decent player who can get in the starting 11. As we are, there's no point even attempting a counter attack because we have nothing up there to get behind a defence.
We had all summer to bring in some pace but it was clearly bottom of the priority list.

We also need capable competition for Duffy. When he inevitably goes off, we inevitably change our midfield shape. And that will usually result in less chances due to the lack of a link player in the final third.

I hope you get good Christmas Presents mate, because you are really going to be disappointed in January.

Spot on Ricky. We need at least one forward who can go past people and make his own chances. Our forwards are pedestrian and only operate off good service. We need a Dwight Gayle type who can run at defences, beat a man and create his own chances. Problem is they are like rocking horse shit and unless we really push the boat out unlikely to be in our price range.

Does anyone really think January will be any different to the last 10? Saudi v Mcabe is the most important thing on their minds so don't expect much support.

If it’s pace we need there is a certain Jamaican just been released in Australia...

..(Not really)

We need individuals. At least one or two. Mavericks, Cavaliers. Players who are ultimately selfish by nature but do strange and wonderful things that “team” players wouldn’t dream of. They try something different. They dare to dream.

Wilder doesn’t encourage this. He wants a slick machine of a team, where all the moving parts work in sync with each other, like the precision movements of a Swiss watch. And 90% of the time that’s absolutely right btw. He’s created that and it is a very efficient and effective method that has served us well.

But it seems he eschews individual flair. Take Brooks. He got just 9 starts under Wilder. He was too individual. As was Nathan Thomas.

It’s the same thing as I have seen in corporate life. You get a guy (or girl) who is individually brilliant, but totally unpredictable. They can turn a situation on its head. But they don’t prosper because they don’t quite fit the mold of “team player”. People soon forget the individual contribution they can make if they don’t “conform” to the norms of the team.

These type of individual players may forever be consigned to a bit-part in a team. An “impact player” to quote the phrase. But in situations where you have followed the prescribed protocol of how to play and it isn’t working, these “odd-balls” provide something different.

We don’t have many. We possibly have one? Duffy. He will be brilliant and terrible in the same game. That’s what these type of players are. But they are valuable “wild cards” to throw into the mix and we just don’t have many options like that in the current squad.

That’s the type of player I’d like to see added in Jan.

It's almost as if we needed to replace Brooks...

I'm afraid money isn't going to rescue us, we just aren't at that level financially.

what for more freebie joking asid though we really need a quality striker in january clarke and washington don't look that great

Send Woodburn back as it hasn't worked. I think Clarke's days are up and Washington isn't good enough. Bring someone in as back-up for Duffy (no doubt a loan) and bring a striker in on loan. No point trying to buy one now, unless players come up for sale. We missed the boat in summer.

Heard a whisper today from a former director/CEO whatever they call em.

It was when we signed Beattie. McCabe said ‘right then. Let’s get bums on seats and sign Beattie’
“We can’t afford him”
‘I don’t give a fuck Let’s get him’

He quit because he couldn’t work with McCane.

That makes me like and respect Mcabe more than I did a few seconds ago.

Did he whisper we might be spending in Jan ?

I'm not expecting a big January budget.

They can say what they want now, they can promise what they want, it means nothing.

I just hope they give Wilder half a chance.

I feel a major weakness is appearing that we have no back up strikers. When we rest mcgoldrick & sharp. We have nothing

If we carry on ballooning crosses like yesterday, then we need a man mountain at centre forward.

I'm thinking Ollie Watkins from Brentford, think he might just fit into our team, Clarke's game isn't happening this season, time to move out, I'd not be keeping Washington if we're not going to play him, Johnson seems an odd one too?, Get the Brooks money spent Chris lad, I think Watkins could be the answer??

Derby didn't have a good striker, yet they beat us. In fact they had a striker we desperately wanted to sign and he was useless. If one of ours had missed that free header he had there would be melt down. We failed to create any real chances yesterday, you could have had Messi up front and we still wouldn't have won. Well maybe we would with Messi but you know what I mean.

One narrow defeat away to one of the promotion favourites and all of a sudden some are fans are panicking.

We’ve known all along that we lack quality up front and lack a Duffy replacement.
At this level it usually costs £10 million plus £25K a week wages for guaranteed quality.
It seems we have £5 million to spend in January, so it willl be more of a risk signing.

.

Was it bottom of the list? or is it that the player we all crave, and I include myself in that (I’m not disagreeing with your sentiment) is not in reach of our current situation?
You want some one with pace, who can walk into a championship table topping side, guess you also therefore pitch him around the 20 goals a season bracket,
You say better than Waghorn £5m, Afobe to Stoke £12m?
We’re all arm chair experts on here, so name the player that ticks all the boxes?!

We could probably have had Callum Robinson for £4m in the summer (same with Freeman). Now he'll probably be double that. Last season it was Ollie Watkins for £2m, we wanted him but wouldn't pay it. A few goals later and he's worth zillions. If we want this player we have to be prepared to take a bit of a risk because as soon as they're fully proven, they're out of our price range.

I would hardly say dropping points away at one of the most talented sides in the league warrents a "roll on January sort of thread"! We are still second in the division!

If we can improve in January, we should probably be looking at our final ball rather than the front two. Poor balls in cost us a few times yesterday- that's not the fault of Billy or McGoldrick.
