Roll on January.....

Was it bottom of the list? or is it that the player we all crave, and I include myself in that (I’m not disagreeing with your sentiment) is not in reach of our current situation?
You want some one with pace, who can walk into a championship table topping side, guess you also therefore pitch him around the 20 goals a season bracket,
You say better than Waghorn £5m, Afobe to Stoke £12m?
We’re all arm chair experts on here, so name the player that ticks all the boxes?!

To play devil's advocate.... Not really, just be better at the game of football than Washington & more mobile and younger than Clarke. :)

Perhaps we should ask Peterborough who they are currently scouting, they seem to have little difficulty in this department. ;)

When we're pinned back, we have very little threat.

We STILL need pace. And not pretend pace like Washington, Woodburn or Johnson. A decent player who can get in the starting 11. As we are, there's no point even attempting a counter attack because we have nothing up there to get behind a defence.
We had all summer to bring in some pace but it was clearly bottom of the priority list.

We also need capable competition for Duffy. When he inevitably goes off, we inevitably change our midfield shape. And that will usually result in less chances due to the lack of a link player in the final third.
Hogan WAS/IS that player Ricky.

The big lad from Southampton NEVER was ;)

I agree with Wilder one game at a time, Isn't there 36 point to play for before then, as for January I don't expect anything so I won't be disappointed ;)

It's not the buying of the striker, it's the paying of the wages.
According to Tufty nobody at the club is on more than 1/3 of Rhodes' wages, which is around £13 000 - £14 000 a week by my reckoning.
And the top wages at United are likely to be gleaned by the current strikers, so we've got an idea what they're on.
So how do the club fit the desired January striker into that wages structure?
A loan maybe, but getting one in January is exceedingly difficult if you're only wanting to pay a part of the player's salary.

If we have had to get a loan to cover the brooks money now early for day to day running we be looking at another loan but then again how many teams are a decent striker away probably 15 teams in the championship in same boat.

We could probably have had Callum Robinson for £4m in the summer (same with Freeman). Now he'll probably be double that. Last season it was Ollie Watkins for £2m, we wanted him but wouldn't pay it. A few goals later and he's worth zillions. If we want this player we have to be prepared to take a bit of a risk because as soon as they're fully proven, they're out of our price range.

That is a stupid argument because no one has the benefit of hindsight.
You’re quoting talented players who have improved but what about the talented players who have not improved.

It’s like me saying Lincoln City have a good young striker, so let’s offer them £500,000. They’ve said they want £3 million for him. Let’s buy this little known forward because he’ll be a future England international and in a few years £3 million will be a bargain.

You might say it was obvious Watkins would do well but last season at Brentford he wasn’t that good.
Remember Omar Boggle at Grimsby, I remember loads on here saying we should pay whatever it takes as he’s destined to be a big star. He’s not done much since leaving Grimsby. So are you saying we should be spending 3 to 5 million on lower league talented players with huge potential (who would be risks).

What about offering Liverpool 3 million for Ben Woodburn whilst his stock is low.
Liverpool seem to think he’ll be a 20 million player in the future, so he could be a real bargain at 3 million.

Couldn't wait for last seasons January window either.

You propose that we never take a single risk then?

Sounds like a rewarding strategy.

Let's keep the Brooks money and just bring in 30 year olds on free transfers.

Robinson's not a lower league player by the way.

First loss in five... roll on January we aren't good enough.

Get a grip.

Irrespective of a few OTT comments, it's a more than fair point.

As good a football as we play, we lack a threat that many other top end Champ teams possess.

Whilst most of us are realistic about we can achieve on our finances, it's a still a fair observation about where we could fall short.

Agree, but that easy to say with hindsight!
We all were impressed with Woodburn signing, and underwhelmed with McG. So who knows
Likewise whilst we cast envious eyes on the 2 examples you give, don’t you think fans of other clubs look at us and say “where’s our scouting system looking, why don’t they follow the blades scouts as in the last few years they have picked up Clarke, JoC, Duffy, Coutts, Fleck etc”

And is that the same Callum Robinson who has scored 4 in 12?
For the record Billy is 7 in 11, McG 5 in 13

Fair enough, but fall short of what, the title? Our season and current form have us in the top two, to narrowly lose one game and say our strikers aren't good enough is just disrespectful, never mind unrealistic.

Heard a whisper today from a former director/CEO whatever they call em.

It was when we signed Beattie. McCabe said ‘right then. Let’s get bums on seats and sign Beattie’
“We can’t afford him”
‘I don’t give a fuck Let’s get him’

He quit because he couldn’t work with McCane.

Summat to do with oven chips?

Derby didn't have a good striker, yet they beat us. In fact they had a striker we desperately wanted to sign and he was useless. If one of ours had missed that free header he had there would be melt down. We failed to create any real chances yesterday, you could have had Messi up front and we still wouldn't have won. Well maybe we would with Messi but you know what I mean.
I don’t know why Wilder was so keen on Waghorn. He looks like he’s made of plastoceine. Maybe he thought he could mould him?
