Robinson

I'm happy that the Jack Robinson redemption arc was completed last year but feel it's now time to move on.

For me, he came in, was crap, got better and became a steady CB for us, kept going for us in one of the worst/toughest PL seasons you can play in (I imagine), but now I feel he's going back to square one.

It worries me how much we're having to play him after souttars injury
No redemption arc for me. The fact he stands where JOC used to stand sends shivers down my spine.

The one good thing he did last night was have a go at the Kop at half time

Maybe he should try that more

I go back and forth on this a bit. It’s been obvious from the start that Robinson is at best a very average, limited defender who brings an element of experience and leadership and at worst he’s a complete liability who lets his emotions get the better of him leadership-wise too. It’s always felt a bit needs must with Robinson. Clearly Wilder had no plan to start him this season. But after Souttar’s injury he had to play. I get that and I can see how it’s a squad game and, right now, Robinson is probably a better option than anything else. But it does feel like it’s time to improve our “needs must” option at centre back. Robinson has proven a liability so many times and I really don’t think we can afford to be rolling him out much longer, especially if we’re promoted. I recognise we don’t have stacks of money available but surely at some point we can find someone better for that cover.

Honestly please drop it. Moan somewhere else. He’s been good overall this season. Makes a mistake and people start to throw their toys. “Fucking dog shit” player is not needed. Respect our captain. Ole fucking ole.

Also, just remember who got us 3 points at Millwall when we created nothing.
he was bought as a squad filler and ends up being club captain show how far we stagnated in 4 years for me
It’s no coincidence that our defence including goalkeeper look devoid of confidence they had previously
Since we lost Souter the stats and nature of the goals conceded speak for themselves
A new CH asap please

I'm not so sure thats true. CW made him captain and I suspect was looking to pair JLT with Souttar after Anels poor performance last season. It was only by accident not design that Anel and Souttar got to play together after JLT's injury against QPR at Home. A game where he was at fault for both goals.

CW has a blind spot where JR is concerned and unfortunately I fear it will cost us promotion this season if he continues to be first choice CB. I agree he's average, lacks pace is weak in the air and has a tendency to switch off losing his man. Its been apparent ever since he came back into the side that his partnership with Anel doesn't work. Add in two full backs whose form has dropped off and our watertight defence is now a passing memory. We need 2 not one CB imo to cover for injuries and loss of form. Lasts nights performance is a direct consequence of relegating the gaping hole in our defence since the loss of Souttar to the bottom of the transfer pile when it should have been the number 1 priority.

Goals conceded with Souttar starting = 8 in 21 games.

Goals conceded without Souttar = 13 in 8 games.

It's absolutely essential we bring in a replacement this week to start next to Anel. That position is where we should have been prioritising the spending of £10m.

It was No 1 priority to get a dominant centre back in the summer & so this should have been No 1 priority the second Souttar was out for the season.

Big mistake to rely on Robinson. No coincidence that we’ve leaked more goals in January. Needs sorting this week - need to throw money at this as a priority.

Can't fault his passion, drive and determination, but he's just not at the level required to start every game.
Great week getting in BBD and Cannon, but if it's fluff behind them we will get more of tonight's performance/results.
Wilder is limited in squad numbers, but he won't learn. He got away with it at Swansea and then tried the same trick tonight!
Like a gambler that won money on a horse that only won because the horse in front fell at the last fence. Why gamble on that same outcome happening again?
Because we had little to fuck all option other than to do so.

He’s the only one who came out of last season with any respect, not due to his ability but due to him giving a fuck and lead by example behaviour

Not best player in side but great captain - see also

Terry (shaggin mates bird aside)
Bruce
Adams
G. Neville
Jordan Henderson

All EPL winning captains, all limited ability but great leaders on the pitch

Matthew Pollock at Watford could be a potential replacement for Souttar. He has won the most aerial duals in the division and scores highly in a lot of the other key defensive stats too. Not sure if Wilder will have come across him in his short stint at Watford as he was out on loan at Aberdeen.

Agree with the first para. But to compare any of these players to Robinson is absurdly generous. Those in the list could actually play a bit.

Robinson deserves credit for how he kept battling through that season but it bares little relevance for us now and as we look to the future.

Wasn’t putting him in their bracket, merely pointing out that the captain of a side isn’t normally the most gifted player, but one you’d want in the trenches

If Robbo had half the ability some of them lads had we’d be oreet!!

When Souttar limped off I turned to my mate and said bang goes promotion 🤷‍♂️
I felt the same. I'm actually quite surprised how we've coped without him, given we all now that Anel and Robbo are not a good partnership. I would have thought that this would have been a priority for the transfer window. As a long time blade, I would be amazed but not surprised if we didn't get a replacement in next week.

Are you seriously comparing JR with those players? All England internationals other than Bruce, all Premier league icons, and you put Jack Robinson alongside them as a comparison
JR is a Championship trier.....full stop

He wasn't happy with fans when he came off at half time, going into tunnel he was shouting and swearing at SS

100% True
Tony Kenworthy recommend Mattie Pollock to Chris Wilder when Pollock was at Grimsby Town.Kenworthys daughter is engaged to Ben Pollock who plays for Chester FC who’s Mattie Pollock’s brother
Kenworthy was working for Reg Brealey and had some dealings with John Fenty who owned Grimsby Town at the time Kenworthy rang Chris Wilder about Pollock Chris put him in touch with Paul Michell Kenworthy had sorted out a deal costing the Blades just £250,000 John Fenty was going to sell Grimsby Town (which he eventually did) Kenworthy told Mitchell that Fenty would Allow Pollock to train from Monday to Thursday go back to Grimsby play for them then come back to Train again the next week then make a decision…Mitchell’s reaction…. he’s not for us
