I agree to get rid and robbo, but weve got nothing left haha.
I am worried about the owners bringing people in.
They dont want to spend much so far and happy to get money in.
We've signed players without many people knowing rumours, so I am hoping that is the case again. But need signings in long before now at the back.

I do understand peoples concerns but its not like theyve sold Cooper, Hamer and Campbell at the first sniff. At least they are clearing some of the shit out. I will continue to reserve my judgement till the end of the window. IF we still have no replacement defenders in September then ill hold my hands up and say I was wrong and they don't have a fucking clue what they are doing.

As with Robinson, 100% the right decision to let him go.
Even if it's on a free it's a good deal for us to allow someone else to take over his contract.

However, assuming we do let the pair of them go, that leaves us needing 3 CBs.
That's a lot of work to do in a few weeks.

It's great that teams are in for a lot of the lads we need to be looking beyond, but I don't get a great feeling that we will be able to do what we need to do.

I think they lack cover at left back. Esquerinha, a young Brazilian, started there in their opener, but was subbed. A right footer came on.

It’s a shame but he was so poor on Saturday. Beyond dreadful. Shot for pace & riddled with errors. Every time he starts he’s going to cost us.

I don't see how QPR can use him at this level, would he just play left back for them? he wouldn't be very quick.

Agreed. I’m amazed that anyone else would want him, but as we stupidly gave him a contract it’d be negligent not to move him on.

As a traditional full back with no requirement to bomb up and down the wing he may make a suitable back up for someone.

Not sure at this level, he still needs to move fairly quickly.

Agree with this and would enable him to get back to basics which is what he needs.

Asking him to come into a new system with a totally different role is suicidal.

Get him on the next train down to London.

If it's the case that he's off and JLT's off to Wrexham, surely we must have players ready and waiting to come in at the back.

Absolute minimum we could do with 8 players for 4 positions and ideally some that can cover more than one.

For illustrative purposes:

RB - Seriki, Seol (4.5m)
CD - Bindon, Gilchrist (1.5m)
CD - Zetterstrom (3.5m?), Mee (free)
LB - Burrows, McCallum

Godfrey on loan is a consideration and so is Dawson.

You’ve then also got Polendakov / Sachdev / Curtis / Sasnauskas / Buyabu

Plus Shackleton who God knows if he’ll ever be for enough to be relied upon.

That allows you to move on Robinson and Norrington-Davies. You’ve probably done it by spending the Anel money and whatever we get for Rhys and Robbo and you have a younger, more mobile group apart from Mee, on longer contracts.

That would require securing 4 deals in 2 weeks when it’s taken all summer to secure half as many perm deals.

I think a move would be best for all parties. Id love for him to get back to his best, but I just can't see it happening, especially not here
His best was still not very good I admit thathe did improve under Hecky in the promo season upto his injury at Coventry but he always looked slightly off the level for me

He was perfectly fine until he got injured. He looked robust apart form one game against Forest where he gave away a penalty against that knobhead who went to Spurs, forgot his name, sorry, Spence.

Since returning he’s not quite looked right but he’s also been asked to play centre back on each occasion which he might just manage in a three.

I thought he was having a pretty impressive season in the Qatar World Cup season until he got injured. Feel sorry for the guy to be honest but a move would likely be the best option for him now. It’s hard to see a way back from being jeered off the pitch by your own fans.

What concerns me if he does leave is the volume of defensive signings that will be needed before the next league game, more so if Robinson goes as well. No issues with these guys being moved on, it’s good business, but we surely have to have the replacements lined up beforehand. At the pace we move, it will take the rest of window to fill out the squad and we could easily have written off another 2 or 3 league games by then.

Even allowing for the fact that better players become available later in the window, it’s bonkers how we seem happy to put ourselves in this position season after season. It’s often fine margins that divide success from failure and pissing points away throughout August due to being unprepared could really cost us. Hope I’m proven wrong.
