Couldn't swear to it, but I seem to recall it being a Saturday game away at Hull at Boothferry Park where we drew nil nil. Think Stan McEwan (Billy's brother) missed a last minute penalty for them.
Think we drew another game away at Hull nil nil around the same time and we drew there by the same score in April 90. Good to see that we are keeping the tradition of nil nil scorelines going!

He didn’t play in that game. He never played a league game for us.
Stan McEwan did miss a pen - Burridge saved it.

As others have said, he was my first Blade's manager, so I've always reserved a degree of affection for him! I do recall sitting in the car in the Laver stand car park, to see him storm out of the main entrance looking furious and then drive off at great pace. I don't think he was with us much longer after that and always wondered at the content of the conversation he'd just had!! RIP Billy.

Hi, Long time reader but first post. I really wanted to share my story about meeting Billy as he really made a difference for me.
My Best mates Dad was the chairman of Goole Town around 1987 and United sent a reserve team for a pre season friendly. As I was a crazy Blade he invited me as his guest to the match. Our team included Clive Mendonca, Mark Todd(possibly his debut) and a certain Chris Wilder. On the night the team was managed by Danny Bergara and I was very excited to be sat next to Billy. I am sure he was being patient with me but he was such a nice guy, he wanted to hear all about me as a 23 year old travelling to all games from my then base of Milton Keynes. He was so enthusiastic about football, his knowledge was incredible. He was genuine, humble and very honest. Whats more he really cared about United, the current set up and his players welfare. Anyway, at the end of the match having being no doubt nearly sent to sleep talking to me he asked for my business card, just incase I could help any of his players in the future.
A few weeks later he called me and asked if I could help one out who had just joined the club. That was the first time I had ever helped a footballer and it opened doors for me that I could only dream would open. I made friendships within that group of players and future groups that in some cases are as strong today as then. Players move on etc and new leads come as they swap notes at their new clubs. You know the acorn effect! Due to that simple conversation I had some wonderful experiences which I know would never have happened had it not been for meeting him and receiving his support.
We weren't close friends or anything but when ever I bumped into him he always made time for a chat and was interested as to how life was treating me. He was one of life's good guys and will be sadly missed.
