Right we lost...

All about the reaction.

Agreed. We were always unlikely to get anything out of the game before we kicked off. The first half performance was bad, but second half was better.

Cardiff is going to be a test. They stuffed Villa today and have a pacey, strong attack.

Tuesdays team selection will be interesting.
More interesting IMO will be how Wilder steps up our recruitment programme. That will tell us a lot.

CW will turn the injustice of today's result into a positive, of that I am sure. Historically we have thrived as the underdog and this season is a return to that. Being on the end of 3 shocking decisions already should make us more determined to take our chances and take control away from the officials.

Whether this will give us enough to get anything against Cardiff is debatable but I can see us mullering the Dingles.

Time to show our bouncebackability

Turn the injustice of today into anger we can use to beat Cardiff.

I'd start Ched and Brooks on Tuesday

Not sure if it's been mentioned Brooks showed some good touches when he came on and Ched looked well up for it.

I'd be well up for it but I'm knackered and crap.

Sleep well ;)

All about the reaction now, we haven't been in this position for a while and going to be interesting to see how the lads react. Cardiff will be another tough game

I can sort of understand why people are disappointed. We've put up with a lot of shit over the last six years but we got used to winning last season. Not only that, we got used to winnining comfortably. It's easy to get used to that.

We have lost 1-0 to a team which will probably finish in the top 6 this season.
Looking at today's performance I think we could do with Lernighan or another good CH and a quicker version of Leon Clarke up front with Billy and we will be ok.
The offside decision was very tight but I think it wasn't offside and would have got us a very good point today.
Coutts and Clarke were unlucky not to score.

We're all disappointed but it's a question of perspective , played one of the top sides didn't play fantastic but nearly got a point , 2 games down 44 to go , were not gonna piss all over sides like last year as we're playing at a higher level , can't believe ppl are already sharpening knives or reaching anti depressants , we're not the finished article & CW knows that , get behind your team we'll win more than we lose

I thought Clarke was superb today. Never stopped running all game. Never gave up, always tracking back, trying to break up play. Looks the fittest of all our team. Not sure Evans is fit enough to play a full game, but he certainly looked the part when he came on, though possibly as everyone else was tiring.

I agree. Clarke was really good vs Brentford too.

I would be tempted to rest a few.

We have to target certain games this season. Barnsley at home is winnable, I am not sure Cardiff away, at least at the moment, is winnable.

I agree mate. I would be tempted to rest Coutts and blood Lundstram in the holding mid role.
more contentious maybe go 4 4 2 or give Brooks a start.
Today made it clear why Wilder wants another 2 or 3 in.

Got 3 more points than this time last year.

Okay performance, not great, not bad. Shit result. We're supposed to be relegation fodder, remember? If Boro are one of the top sides, and we're only looking to survive, we look way ahead of the pace imo.

Sometimes the over reaction to the reaction is as bad as the over reaction from a few if you get my jist.

I expected to lose today but thought might just nick a point. Got to be realistic but that doesn't mean being defeatist. For some there appears no middle ground.

I think we deserve praise today for our reaction after half time and ultimately both teams created about the same amount of clear cut chances. At this level from what I've seen in the last couple of years there's plenty of games with few chances created so you've got to make the most of them.

I'm not having a dig at Leon because he was terrific last week and worked really hard today. However his early chance was a great opportunity.

The offside decision was a joke but then again it wasn't a free kick.

At least we have a management team who we all trust and know they will react to what's needed within the budget we have.

I think Carruthers played himself out of the team and Duffy's delivery alone played him in.

Carruthers was sloppy in possession and was not switched on a few times when he needed to be closing down.

Looks more like the impact sub he was last year on that showing.

Some excellent balls, including the wrongly disallowed goal by Duffy. Always been a fan of his cute interplay and generally careful ball retention.

That would be my one change for Tuesday.

It's weird how it seems like one half of us think Carruthers was one our best today and the other half one of the worst, personally I'm with you. Wasteful in possession, looked panicked, and I'm no huge Duffy fan, I think he tries too hard to be cute with the ball a lot of the time when he just needs to get it in the box, but he's definitely earned a spot above Samir for me. I think Brooks would be better too than Samir, I mean, why not? Cardiff will be favourites, may as well try something in an away match that we're underdogs in.

I'd also start Lafferty and hopefully Baldock will be fit for Tuesday too. I'd like to see him have a run out.

What's good about tonight though once you get past the disappointment of the non-offside, is even I can see some of what needs doing, and my only managerial experience is on FIFA and LMA 2003, so I'm sure Wilder's got a set plan now to tighten us up, improve our passes and set pieces and try new players and systems.

Just shows the difference of opinions.
I thought other than the cross for the disallowed goal Duffy was garbage.
He was slow in his reactions and gave the ball away a lot.
Carruthers while not brilliant but was easily the better of the two.

And I'd go the third way and say that neither Carruthers nor Duffy have shown me anything which makes me think they'll be good enough to play that role this season, week in, week out.

Duffy helped a lot as he tried to do little give and goes and get us moving forward. We started moving the ball around quicker and looking to get forward. It made us play the ball on the ground and we looked better.

I think they both have parts to play this season, but from the bench or in games where he can dominate. In games where we are being pressured and have no time on the ball, I think we need someone doing that deep. That should have been Coutt's job for me. Taking the ball from the defence and playing short give and goes to move us up the field. He didn't do that. You see that sort of thing a lot in the Premier League.

There wasn't a lot between them.
Just thought Duffy was more wasteful.
I agree we did seem to move the ball about a bit quicker in the last 20min, but I thought that tied more in with the change in system and Ched being more direct than Billy.

A game of two halves for me where they were all over us for most of the first half without creating many clear cut chances and we were the best side in the second half

Just looked at the match stats and seen that we had most possession and more shots on target. Of course there was the disallowed goal which is infuriating. Even their player thought the goal was good

Sitting back now and analysing everything, I'm as optimistic mow about the season as I was before the game. Yes, there were one or two negatives, but there always are

Away game at the title favs
More possession
More shots on target
Robbed of a point
Boro have spent £43m Blades £2m

If that's the best the division has to offer we'll do ok
We'll sign more players before the window closes
I'm confident the team we'll grow in terms of stature, confidence and performance

I thought Clarke was miles better than Billy yesterday - neither had service (apart from Clarke's 1st chance) but Clarke still put a right shift in to help the rest of the team - Billy not effective at all unless we are creating more.

I wouldn't start either, for now, but Duffy should definitely start
