Outgoing? Ricky Holmes

Is he even training with us - he has not been involved or seen at the club for a long time. United might have problems paying him up if he is about to possibly retire. If he is fit though he should be training even if with the u23's. Wilder does not striker me as the sort to say just sit at home and do nothing for a year.

Clarke deserves more sympathy but both on big wages are not going to move on unless they have most of their contract paid up. I think if United have not had any takers in January they need to just wait till towards the end of the month and agree a settlement - not full contract as we will be in a posiiton of strenght as both players will struggle to get any kind of decent club/wage after a year out of the game. Look at Carruthers. Barely found himself a league two side and had to trial for them.
Leon is named in our 25 man Premier League squad today.

He clearly wants it doesn't he...football career before money for this lad.....

Seems to be getting off lightly for me by our fans. Just because he has a contract why shouldn't he be getting a club and play? He's clearly stated he's not happy up north but he's fine to sit at home on a wage. Disgraceful for me.

Kind of feel like you two are failing to put yourself in the man's shoes:

This is a player who only turned professional in his mid 20s, who until then would have been making very little in non-league.

Even when he did "make it", until his move to us, his wages would have been extremely modest for a career as short as a footballer. Let's guess about £4k a week at max (Charlton for 6 months), but at places like Barnet and Northampton, probably closer to £2k?

If he moved to us in the championship and doubled his wages, then received a further bonus/increase upon promotion, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect he's on north of £10k a week. This life changing money, and it's highly unlikely he'll get a chance to earn this sort of money for the rest of his life.

With his age, record above league 1, and injury record, hes unlikely to be able to find a club that will offer him a third of what were paying him.

So the question is: would either of you two tear up a contract worth 5 figures a week, to try and earn, at best, a third of that somewhere else?

So Holmes isn't training but sat on his ass on x amount thousands a week?

Seems odd that he so desperately wants to play, but hasn’t moved on.
He could look to negotiate a release from his contract and then stay down south to get fit and find a club?

He's injured isnt he? How's he going to find a club or train?

If Chris didn't fancy him or didn't think he could play the system, then why buy him?

You answered your own question:

In hindsight he was a ridiculous signing really.

Chris didn't have the benefit of hindsight.

At least the 30 year old League 1 player we handed a 2 and a half year contract too will be out of contract in the summer.

Well if I'm answering hypothetically and on the basis that I am that player on that wage, then of course I wouldn't tear up my very lucrative life changing money contract. Who would? You would have to be a fool to do so.

However, I would sit tight, do the commuting/stay overs, and do my training without belly aching about the unfairness of it all in social media. I would just get on with it safe in the knowledge that I would be retiring soon enough with life changing money meaning that I wouldn't have to get up at 4am in the morning in the forthcoming winters to do a job that is long hours and pays nothing like a footballers salary.

I don't begrudge him earning his money and sitting tight on his contract. That's his right. But I did find his self pitying on social media a bit distasteful. Almost a sense of happy to take the wedge but not happy to be inconvenienced for it.

Each to there own.

You're right, I wouldn't give the money up either, that was the point.

As for him moaning on social media, I completely see your point; I dont particularly have any sympathy for him either, as I personally leave the house at 5.30 and don't normally get back until around 7.
It doesn't bother me though: if he doesn't realise how lucky he is, that's his problem, not ours

Must be a right life not working getting thousands a week. Wonder how much he's on after the promotion. Makes me sick

I don't get why all the grief. Contracts are entered into with eyes wide open by both sides. They are designed to give reassurances and stability to both club and player.

If you take on a fixed rate mortgage over a given term and interest rates fall, you may curse your bad luck/judgement but would you cast aspersions towards the building society and claim they ripped you off?

You're out of the house for 90 minutes a day and you're moaning? What are you. A knocker upper?

I mean the club could just pay him up if they wanted. Contracts are a two way street. The club offered it him so they have to honour it.

His agent is more than likely trying to find him a loan for January. I imagine if he does go out on loan United would still have to stump up a large proportion of the wages as he’s likely to go out to a League One club, many of whom would have no chance of affording the whole lot of his wages.

Fail to see how this is solely the players fault. Not sure when his contract is up but can you blame him for seeing it out given that it’s the last time he’s ever likely to earn this sort of money again?

I think you mean Jealous. He's getting a good living for very little as are some players who are doing all they can but can't get in the squad. If he's crocked and his career is more or less over then even more reason for him to claw every pound and pence he can. Deal didn't work out. It happens in football. He's hardly going to be one of our highest earners so its not like a Jack Rodwell earning millions from a league one club situation.

Bearing in mind that at home McBraindead was dragged off for Leon who in 20 mins then tried harder for the team than McBraindead did for 70 minutes, I think I would prefer Leon to stay as cover. At least he's unpredictable rather than McBraindead's constant fruitless battle with centre backs who are bigger and more skilful and the moaning at referees because he doesn't have the skill to show the centre backs up.

I love the McBraindead 😂 much better than McBoozie!

Wilder gets most right, this one went astray although I thought he was our best player at Wolves, the only start he made.

All managers make mistakes in the transfer market ,Holmes was one of those every player not able to step up he was one.
It's too early to judge Mcburnie or Robinson both are playing in a system which is foreign to them. One thing for sure Wilder wont keep them if they cant adapt we may lose money on them but they would be moved on.
They are young players who need to play festering in a club where they dont fit would be damaging to there career , money shouldnt come 1st at there age.
Hopefully this wont come to play and they will play there part.

Get what you're saying, but we weren't so reasonable when Dean Hammond did the same

It was a bit naive from the club, with hindsight. They knew a certain number of appearances would trigger a new deal. They already had doubts about Adkins in the JTW which is why they didn’t let him spend much so when he got close to the number of appearances to trigger the new deal they should have told Adkins he wasn’t allowed to play him anymore.

Why would anyone direct their anger at Dean Hammond himself, he didn’t pick the team?

However, although you could never prove it, in my opinion that was a blatant example of a manager picking a player, with the sole intention of triggering a clause in his contract that would significantly financially benefit the player. Let’s not forget he and Adkins were old pals who went back a long way and I wouldn’t be surprised if Hammond was promised that whatever happened he’d get the extra year, before he signed.

Let’s face facts, not even Dean Hammonds Mum would have argued he was getting selected every week, on performance 🥴

Does he actually turn up to training. Sounds stupid but do we just pay him to sit at home or does he come in and work with the U23's?

This is what I want to know. Is he still injured or going through recovery down south? Fit but told no point in coming up here to train? I wan know what's going on with the lad.

Can't have seen him get a gaff up here tbh so he must be just back down south most of time.

It would be cruel to ask someone like him to ever leave Essex.
