Player Suggestion Richard Kone

Wouldn't be surprised if he was on a list of potential targets for Blades, there's probably quite a few names on the list that we won't sign because we get other targets.

I'd be surprised if he was still at Wycombe come February, unless he signs a new contract, wonder if he might follow Bloomfield to Luton.

The stats aren't comparable, no matter how many times they get posted.
They're playing at different levels.
Cannon has been playing in a dire Stoke side towards the bottom of the league.
Kone is in a team a division below, playing for a team challenging for automatic promotion, against lower quality opposition.

I'm not for one moment saying that Kone doesn't have potential, but there's been many a player pull his kind of stats in league 1 that don't replicate that in the championship.
If he was available for a low sum, get him in by all means.
Reality is, Wycombe aren't struggling financially.
I imagine they'd prefer to keep Kone around until the end of the season to help aid their promotion push, than to sell him for a couple of million now and potentially damage their promotion hopes (nobody knows the fee they'd want).

League one is a poor league, no two ways about it. But the clubs that win out are the ones that are able to scout the poorer leagues and pick out the cherries from the bunch. There's no doubt that there are at least 20 future premier league players currently in league one - there always has been. We can get mugged off by Premier League clubs for average champ talent, or do what Norwich did with Sainz, West Brom did with Maja and Middlesborough did with Latte Lath and look wider than our overpriced league for talent.

He took a punt on Burrows from league one. Why? Cause he had really good statistics, Kone is no different.

I’ve got a sales meeting down EMA Hilton, so I’ll be struggling to do the afternoon. Will leave the sign by the bush.
Is she doing the first shift then😜

I'd be surprised if this lad ditched Wycombe mid-season, during a blockbuster promotion race. After they made his career with a pick-up from non-league.

But then again I didn't think Wycombe's hero manager would ditch them for Luton.

I've watched him play twice this season as Wycombe are my local club. The second game v Mansfield at home he did absolutely nothing all game. Admittedly it was a drab 0-0 draw but he didn't stand out in any way, shape or form.

He's got the physical attributes but is very raw and anyone who thinks he could come in and immediately contribute to our promotion push is dreaming. He could be a bench option but so is One` and do we want him blocking his progress?

Oh and he won't be cheap, Wycombe are owned by a billionaire so will extract more than full value

Going to Luton for £3m
That’s a very reasonably fee as a gamble on developing a player with good physical traits and a good scoring record at the level below. If they do manage to develop him and get some a decent end product out of him at championship level they’ll have an asset worth 5 times that.

Scored again 17th of the season would definitely be worth a punt.

I understand what you’re saying, but none of the players you mentioned have come from League 1. You’d be better using examples like our own Mr Burrows.

No I was just making a wider point that good players exist in poorer leagues.

But sure: Harrison Burrows, Michael Cooper, Ivan Tonie, Leif Davis, Ross Stewart, Sammie Szmodics, Che Adams, Ezri Konsa, etc. etc.

Miles Leaburn another decent young prospect
I’d have looked at him this summer as a Jebbo/Osula replacement but he was injured still if we wanted to add another young physical striker to the set up to develop alongside One he’d be the one to go and get this summer.

It’s what Bournemouth have been doing in recent years bringing in physically gifted young strikers and seeing how they develop. It’s not a bad idea if you hit on developing one you end up with a very very valuable asset. We’ve lost two of the three we had so it wouldn’t hurt to add one or two.
