We know Ertl & Taylor are out already, and Simonsen of course

Retained doesn't equal stay though does it - it just means the ones we would like to keep if they accept the new terms. Time will tell who gets the offer they cannot refuse (and we cannot match)

Porter, McDonald & Williamson offered contracts

11 released including Simonsen, ertl, Taylor, Beattie & Evans

Gotta give him a contract really !! He's not a bad player to have as backup. We can't just release him, we have nobody else

Porter offered a new contract? Is that for real? Bizarre.

The only way to interpret it is that he has been offered reduced terms, since we couldn't possibly want to keep him for longer than we already have to. Hopefully it will be a case of accepting them or being transfer listed.

Otherwise black is white.

People on BM are saying he was only given a one year deal last summer with an option of a second year pending fitness

I too am baffled that Porter has been offered a new deal.

An obvious list, but disappointed that we've not made a clearer sign of intent by suggesting that other players will be made available for transfer.

I'm looking at you Nick.

Surely DW is not proposing that Porter & Cresswell will be our main strikers? If he is - League 2 it is then.

This is just the players that are out of contract. If we were to offer Nick a pay off to join another club then we would have to wait til the transfer window opens.

No mention of Harriott, I thought he was out of contract. I hope he has signed an extension previously that I have missed

Lets not fly off the handle here. If we dont re-sign Porter then the only forward we would have left at the club would be Cresswell. I fully expect the club to sign a couple more forwards before the new season starts but at the end of the day we need a squad. I can see the sense in keeping him at the moment.

Delighted we have offered new deals to Williamson and McDonald. It shows a little ambition but I guess we'll have to see if they are attractive enough offers to accept.

I'm not. Porter is far better than he is given credit for by the masses. Not quick, but capable at this level. Better than those released and a good foil if we can find a quick man to go alongside him. Underrated.

Conneely also released despite apparently showing promise.

Connor Brown released too, presumably payback for the tweet contretemps.

Both right backs (correct me if I'm wrong) so we are very short of cover in that area now.

Really? Really?

Fair enough. I personally think he's the worst striker I've seen for us in my time watching the Blades. His touch is quite frankly appalling, and apart from a neat skill he's got in turning his player, that's about it.

I've just put on Twitter that I think he could be a big player next season. With a run in the side he'll score goals. His first team opportunities were very limited this year but he still bagged a few.

Ched Evans been let go and he still a utd player because we hold his register forms or I am wrong.

Not shocked to see the other players let go.

They are 2 very injury prone players so I would hope other clubs may try to avoid signing them.

I'm no fan, but you have to remember how poor (IMHO) Evans was until he got established. Porter has only had bit parts to play. Whilst he's not going to ever match Evans, he would surely improve enormously given a run in the team. That said, if he alone was our main striker next season, we'd be going nowhere.

Very disappointed that we are trying the retain Porter.

It's obvious that no team with him playing up front consistently will be able to mount a challenge for promotion.

If possible we should free up his wages and gamble on getting someone else that will.

Worst striker for many, many years. Born offside, awful touch, no pace. Not really a target man either.

It's confusing because although Wilson seems to be slow to work out which players are useful and which aren't, towards the second half of the season he seemed to get Porter's measure and resist using him.

He has scored 5 goals this season and started very few games. If he can still come from the bench or something and chip in some more next season then its all good.

I can see why he has been offered a new deal and if he is cheap enough then there is no harm in giving him another year. Even if he is a bit part player again next season.

I'd go along with that, he started the season strongly, in Ched's absence, and has had few chances since then. He wins a lot of headers and is strong, definitely worth keeping.

Was the football that good in the first few games of the season though?

There is harm in offering him a new deal because for every so-so (and that is being charitable to him) player that we keep we are not maximizing the effectiveness of our squad. His goals per game for this level of football is poor at best. Are people forgetting the run of games we had where we surrendered winning positions when Wilson developed this habit of bringing Porter on for Evans with ten minutes to go?
