Wouldn't it be a jolly jape if some enterprising Blades sneaked into the ground the night before their next home game and replaced that big Chinny Hill photo with one of the chairman of SISU?

It was against Man City but not the 3-3 draw in February 1972. It was in the Anglo-Scottish Cup in August 1974. Jim Brown had just taken a goal kick and someone in the old John Street had blown a whistle which annoyed TC. He booted the ball to the back of the stand. The ref had a word with a copper who was patrolling the John Street area before play resumed with a drop ball. We won 4-2 that evening with TC scoring twice. Denis Law was playing in his penultimate match of his career
Thanks for that, it was a long time ago. Just something of a blur of a memory.

Dennis Law, now there''s a name. Seems to be the forgotten man of Old Trafford, never seems to get a mention when talking about old Man Utd legends, alongside Best and Charlton he was a European Player of the year winner.
Not heard his name for years and the Old Trafford crowd sing about Cantona and Ronaldo but never Law.

They're referred to as the Holy Trinity ( Best Law Chalton) and each has a Statue
at the Man Utd ground

I saw Best and Charlton in their penultimate game for Man U and I saw Law play in his penultimate game of his football career. It is the same for any of you if you saw all of the three games below

April 23rd 1973 Man U 1 (Kidd) Blades 2 (Dearden, Eddy)
December 26th 1973 Man U 1 (Macari) Blades 2 (Currie, Woodward)
August 6th 1974 Texaco Cup Blades 4 (Dearden, Currie 2, Woodward) Man City 2 (Summerbee, Law)

I was at Charltons ;ast home game, the one above in 1973. Kidd scored first before Eddy smashed a glorious equaliser and Billy spoilt the script with the winner. Was a guest of my Dads mate,a big Man U fan and a minor director of the club. We sat in the Directors box and I don't think my goal celebrations went down too well. I was very young at the time so didn't get a clip from anyone !!! Charltons last game was the following one away at Chelsea.

It was Steve Faulkner's debut for us and it was his poor back pass that led to Kidd's goal. Arnie Sidebottom played in left back for Man U

It was Dearden who equalised and Eddy scoring the winner

I then remember reading in Shoot annual that Rodger Kirkpatrick's main job was a commercial traveler ie salesman and he dealt in ladies underwear and even now I can remember that he commented that "players are always asking me to quote for nylons"

Happily corrected.
It was a banging goal by Eddy though!

Yeah I remember Kirkpatrick standing in the John street tunnel whilst an announcement was made to stop the whistle blowing. I went to the Texaco cup match too, can't remember if it happened then as well?
Just checked the programme for the January 11th 1975 fixture. Yes, Roger Kirkpatrick was the ref for that match. Must have been a Man City fan that blew the whistle for both matches?
Kirkpatrick also refereed the same fixture in November 1975 and awarded us a dubious penalty!

He also reffed the 1971 Watford match,Ted Hemsley once told me he said to him during the game " don't worry about today, you'll be ok" !!!

I met him after the match outside the John Street players entrance after the Watford match. He could tell how much of a memorable day it was for me! I was 9 years old then.

I speak to him & Len Badger every home game... Some great stories... Back in our

There might be a few, though does read as though police and football authorities are viewing this as a joly old jape by a few fans.
Quite how the police and stewards failed to get hold of the lad invoved in the fight and any of the fans wandering around the pitch is beyond me.

Absolutely pathetic on the night by police and stewards escorting people back to their seats. No one arrested?

They are now looking at CCTV - wtf ?

I sincerely hope the FA take a dim view and ask what exactly the club did to prevent the invasion and impose sanctions. It'll be carte blanche for these morons to repeat whenever they like otherwise.

Fucking useless the lot of them.

Quite right. Whenever a lone fan gets on the pitch, it's always asked 'What if he'd had a knife?' This danger was multiplied by dozens of idiots coming on to the pitch, plus the blowing of whistles and throwing of objects at our players. By rights, they should have the book thrown at them - fines, closing of ground etc. I suspect they'll get the 'West Ham treatment' as it wouldn't be fair on their whingeing fucking fans.

Now if Blades had done it at a home match...

I was in the corner of the Score board end when Eddy scored the goal, thought I was the only Blade in the ground

Not quite! I was all on my lonesome in the 'new' North stand. I used to go to a lot of away games on my own back then - my mates weren't into travelling. I've been to - among others - Newcastle, Chelsea and West Ham, always wearing my scarf. No trouble at all.

I think they were trying to not stir things up further... But they could and should have done a lot more to make it harder for them.

It was obvious what was going to happen towards the end and for a while there were about two stewards trying to contend with them playing pacman in the empty stand.

Roygbiv called it in his pre-match view from. Do police not read forums ?
