It was against Man City but not the 3-3 draw in February 1972. It was in the Anglo-Scottish Cup in August 1974. Jim Brown had just taken a goal kick and someone in the old John Street had blown a whistle which annoyed TC. He booted the ball to the back of the stand. The ref had a word with a copper who was patrolling the John Street area before play resumed with a drop ball. We won 4-2 that evening with TC scoring twice. Denis Law was playing in his penultimate match of his career

Dennis Law, now there''s a name. Seems to be the forgotten man of Old Trafford, never seems to get a mention when talking about old Man Utd legends, alongside Best and Charlton he was a European Player of the year winner.

I was at Charltons ;ast home game,the one above in 1973. Kidd scored first before Eddy smashed a glorious equaliser and Billy spoilt the script with the winner. Was a guest of my Dads mate,a big Man U fan and a minor director of the club. We sat in the Directors box and I don't think my goal celebrations went down too well. I was very young at the time so didn't get a clip from anyone !!! Charltons last game was the following one away at Chelsea.

Yeah I remember Kirkpatrick standing in the John street tunnel whilst an announcement was made to stop the whistle blowing. I went to the Texaco cup match too, can't remember if it happened then as well?

I then remember reading in Shoot annual that Rodger Kirkpatrick's main job was a commercial traveler ie salesman and he dealt in ladies underwear and even now I can remember that he commented that "players are always asking me to quote for nylons"

Quite right. Whenever a lone fan gets on the pitch, it's always asked 'What if he'd had a knife?' This danger was multiplied by dozens of idiots coming on to the pitch, plus the blowing of whistles and throwing of objects at our players. By rights, they should have the book thrown at them - fines, closing of ground etc. I suspect they'll get the 'West Ham treatment' as it wouldn't be fair on their whingeing fucking fans.

Not quite! I was all on my lonesome in the 'new' North stand. I used to go to a lot of away games on my own back then - my mates weren't into travelling. I've been to - among others - Newcastle, Chelsea and West Ham, always wearing my scarf. No trouble at all.

I think they were trying to not stir things up further... But they could and should have done a lot more to make it harder for them.

It was obvious what was going to happen towards the end and for a while there were about two stewards trying to contend with them playing pacman in the empty stand.

Roygbiv called it in his pre-match view from. Do police not read forums ?
