Removing the sponsor off the Home Shirt. Anyone going to attempt it?

Isn't this all about the problem of having a shirt sponsor and red and white stripes at the same time?

I seem to remember that the 'Ajax' * style kit of the mid-1970s was excused by the club on the grounds that the broad central stripe provided a good background to the sponsor's name 'CANTORS' ("turn your house into a home"). As we all know, the number on the back is well nigh invisible against the stripes.......

*have you tried this to remove the transfers yet?

You could equally ask the question 'why should a company sponsor a shirt where fans remove your logo, given part of the point in sponsoring said shirt is to have several thousand mobile adverts as a result?'

If I weren't a communist and if I were a used car salesman and if I had just paid out to have my company's branding on a football shirt then I would have had made sure I'd had a decent graphic designer create my logo for me.

Given that said 'Swiss Tony', sells cars like Mercedes, Bentley, Audi, and Porsche (I think?) all of which have stylish badges on their bonnets and hub-caps, they should have come up with something better than they have done.

If thats too rude then I do agree that the graphic would be OK on a shopfront but on a white patch ironed on the shirt it reflects badly. It should have been better if it were a black line graphic with no white patch background and a bit bigger.

I think its not bad marketing to have a logo that isnt quite right and fans trying to remove them from shirts. For one, we're all talking about it now and so raising brand awareness and every person who tries to remove it will remember it more as theyve had to interact with it and in the future everyone will be saying. "remember that nice shirt in 2014, well I fucked mine up trying to remove that sodding John Holland logo" thats some good lasting Brand awarenes there.

John Holland Sales have kindly spent a lot money sponsoring our club, joined the forum to introduce themselves and we have a thread on trying to remove their logo from the shirt.........

Surely it's not about the fact there is a sponsor on the shirt, it's the fact the sponsor has been applied in such a shitty manner.

I can't believe Tony Entwistle of John Holland Sales accepted the way his company logo has been presented on the shirt. If it was my piece of rather expensive advertising I would have wanted it to look the best it could, not like a giant H!

I might be wrong but I don't think people have anything against John Holland Sales. However, you can't really deny that the execution is poor at best.

It's the same with the logo on the back of the shirt. It's not DBL that people have an issue with, it's that there's a sponsor's logo there in the first place.

EDIT: Worksop_Blade beat me to it!

It's a slippery slope that leads to monstrosities like this:

Take a packet of Kellogs Cornflakes, cut out the front panel (make sure you've eaten the contents first just in case your mum and dad get angry), and tape it over the logo.

Adds a bit of "body" to the front of the shirt and you'll have a nice picture of a cock on the front to remind you whose shirt it is.

If it was my company who was the sponsor then I would not be very happy if the club sold a shirt (replica or not) without my company logo on it, especially given what the sponsorship deal may have cost me in the first place! In fact I would actually insist it was part of the sponsorship deal that either of the above did not happen! Whether I am a Blade or not, advertising is advertising and the more people who buy the replica shirts the more advertising exposure I would get.

I'd consider you correct but with one exception. I don't personally think it is on to have advertising on the mini kits, that being full kits for kids of around 5 and under. The idea of young children being walking placards doesn't sit easy with me, and for that reason my kids won't be wearing them. I'll simply get them training gear (without sponsor) instead.

This is exactly why I'm against having a sponsor on the back of the shirt, no matter who it is. If there's one there, I won't buy the shirt.

Get people to throw shit at you while you are wearing it. Apparently if you throw enough shit some of it sticks. If you use masking tape around the rest of the shirt then you could just be left with a pile of shit where the sponsor would be.

If that doesn't appeal randomly hack at it with a carving knife, while you are still in it mind.

If that doesn't appeal dunk yourself and the shirt in Hydrocloric acid. That will certainly remove the logo.

Failing all that and if you really don't like the sponsors name on the shirt write to the club and see if they will sell you one. I doubt it but its far less hassle than lashing out £45 quid for a shirt with a logo on it then ruining it by peeling the logo off.

And finally, if its really so horrible, don't buy the shirt. Radical I know but if it really grinds your gears that much then keep your £45 and you'll be happy.

To be fair if their cars are like their marketing department I won't be parting with any cash for a motor from Hollands Car Lot - The logo is weak, pale, insignificant and wishy washy spoils the shirt - the one on the back is no better looks like it's been stuck on as an afterthought !

I can see your point and my kids will be doing exactly the same as yours. Kits in my opinion are too over commercialised which is why I don't buy them anymore. I'd much sooner buy a nice looking polo shirt with the club badge on and wear that.

Same here but the training/casual wear is crap.

I haven't been to the lane recently so not seen it other than in pictures on here and the website.

I've heard it's poor but I will reserve judgement until I've seen it for myself. However going on the comments I've seen on here I think my money will be lining my pockets rather than United's Superstore.

I'm not really fond of the Med as a diving destination unless it's a Wreck dive. The waters may be crystal clear, but there's usually fuck all sea-life to see :)

Aye there isn't much sea life, but its on the doorstep to my place and there are some decent wrecks and decent dive locations.

As logos go, it's really poor. I think more effort could have been made to make it look more attractive on the shirt.

I'f we have the same sponsor next season a re-brand is definitely required.

I'm really chuffed we have an adidas kit but I won't be buying either shirt, the sponsor logo is embarrassing.

.

Tut tut, go with hydrofluoric instead, it will also remove that pesky calcium and make it easier to dispose of the shirt.
