If everyone behaves as they would be expected there won't be a problem

But this letter seems to suggest that strongly disagreeing with the match officials and "foul language" isn't to be expected at a football match. I would argue that is not the case.

To be fair, this might include me after the Norwich game. Will I have a letter taped to the bottom of my seat tonight :(

Define "excessive" on a scale of Mary Whitehouse to Malcolm Tucker... it's completely subjective.

No more SWFIUA?

"As you blummin' well should" swing a pig?

And if referees don't want to be called "useless twats" perhaps they shouldn't act like it?

Anyway, The Star article ("in a letter seen by The Star" lol) it says that visiting directors were abused, the discouragement of such is fair enough in my book (if indeed, it happened). Perhaps the letter to everyone in the South Stand is perhaps a touch heavy handed though. Surely they could use their super-dooper CCTV retrospectively to caution the individuals concerned and save on the postage?

"Blummin"

Ive been singing it wrong all these years.

Fuck.

There was a bit of a set-to on the left hand side behind the away dugout v. Norwich but nothing out of the ordinary.

that'd be that cheating Norwich twat who pretended to be injured and openly took the piss out of our fans as he (slowly) walked off. No mention of any action against him, though.

I'm fed up of our fans showing 'pasun'. I'm going to start supporting Wendy and doing their ridiculous 'bounce'. As ever, it's nicked off other fans (in this case, West Brom). 'Ooh look mummy! I can bounce like all the other babies!' Suits those scutters from Shiregreen/Parson Cross/Southey Green.

I might even change my name to Mick or Mark...

Before last season, a bit of pantomime booing of the referee at half time was often the only thing worth standing up for.

I've been in the same seat for seventeen years and haven't noticed it any better or worse this season. But I get the feeling it's the club laying the groundwork for shifting longstanding season ticket holders from the prime seats they've occupied for years to give the whole area over to corporate. It was threatened a few years back.

SUFC obviously think by catering to these soft types that attendances will rise as they bring the next generation. Meaning more money.

But if you take the passion out of the game you don't have a product to sell. You want the fans hooked then you need the same battle atmosphere the lane was for all of us.

So those of us who have continued to turn up for six long years in the Third Division are now deemed 'dispensible'? Good luck with that. I'd be off faster than you can say 'Chansiri'.

Just received this through the post.

Sitting where I do, I could perhaps point out that Mr Warnock taught me all those naughty words and Mr Wilder continues the education ;)

I think perhaps the delicate souls would be more suited to the Family Stand rather than next to the tunnel with the standard of referees we get...

Ok, so we can employ the likes of Marlon King, but a bit of salty language near the Directors Box isn't on?

In what scenario would you be 'off'?
As far as I'm concerned no fan is bigger then the club. It shouldn't 'water down' for anyone.

I thought it curious that those who swear "may be relocated". To where? If the South Stand isn't an "adult" stand, where is?

For what it's worth, I hope Ed Balls and Delia heard me. Ditto the fourth official and useless tosspot linesman.

I'd have gone further and sang "you're just a shit Mary Berry" to her.

In the scenario where loyal fans are seen as a cash cow to be replaced by people who have deeper pockets - people who would be off like a shot if results turned bad. That's what Wendy are trying to do, and I wouldn't stand for it.

sorry I thought you were coming from the opposite side before.
I can the reason behind attracting families. Our support has grown alot. Just not at the expense of the experience.

Surely as fans it's our job to make the Lane as intimidating as possible for visiting players. If children are easily upset, sit in the family enclosure! Besides the language at the Lane is nothing compared to the average school playground, which makes a slanging match between Malcolm Tucker and Frankie Boyle look like tea at the Vicar's house.
As for upsetting club officials, I'm sorry but if they think an impressive job title and a big bank balance means that you shouldn't have to be offended by 'yobs' then I suggest the stick to watching polo and laughing at plebs.

I guess this isn't something everyone is gonna agree on as its totally subjective what you find abusive/foul. One man's everyday chat is another's foul and abusive language. You expect bad language at football and if you don't you're naive.

I take my 6 year old lad and we often sit on the South Stand, I have at times taken him on the John Street but the view is crap and the language isn't any better whatever some might say. Also if you're not sure if you can make the game till last minute recently its sold out for most home games these days.

My main problem with bad language is that you get morons who can't control themselves. Last season at the Scunny game we were sat on the South Stand and a bloke right behind my son shouted 'You Fucking Cunt' to the lino. I turned round and just asked him to tone it down as I didn't want my lad learning that at 6. Personally I don't think that's an unreasonable ask and the bloke apologised and did what I asked him to do, I think he still vented his anger just in a slightly less graphic manner!

I appreciate people are going to swear I just wonder if people can take a look round before the game and if there is someone young make a bit of effort to tone it down? Not a lot to ask and then everyone enjoys the game.

Dear SUFC,

We here at Crab Industries, would like to make some comments about our time in "corporate" during the Norwich game recently. There have been a lot of comments on S24SU about the use of "industrial" language around our seating area. I'll leave that for others to comment, but what I found fundamentally more unacceptable was that the Prosecco was room temperature, and the Canapes were limp and disappointing. I asked Delia what she thought but unfortunately the poor dear had lapsed into unconsciousness, I think she might have overdone it a bit and the Prosecco issue certainly didn't seem to bother her.

I await your response with interest.

Yours,

The Crab (CEO Crab Industries)

Dear Mr CEO

Thank you for your letter.

Would you like to join Superdraw?

Yours faithfully

I love the English language in all it's forms and swearing if used correctly in the right surrondings/context is a wonderful part of the language.

I agree that there should be no swearing in the family stand but, imo, swearing is part and parcel of the passion of football - if you take your child to an area other than the family stand then you should expect to hear a bit of swearing and, trust me, even for a 7 year old it won't be language they don't hear at school on a daily basis.

It will be a sad day for me when I'm banned from football for calling a ref like Darren Deadman, Chris Foy or Stuart Atwell a useless cunt.

I get the feeling it's the club laying the groundwork for shifting longstanding season ticket holders from the prime seats they've occupied for years to give the whole area over to corporate. It was threatened a few years back.

It had better bloody not be after the years of rubbish we've continued to sit through, while paying top prices in the ground !

I am surprised nobody has reproduced the picture circulated by the club in preparation for the letter - the one at the Norwich game with the distressed little girl, who has been forced by the nasty man near her to hand him her bag of sweets. No doubt threats and foul language were used to force her to do this. It clearly ruined the poor girl's Matchday experience. Can anyone help the club identify the man involved?

What do you want, Jurgen to ban him from Bramall Lane?
Obviously not. That would be like Man. U banning Mourinho from Old Trafford. But, as I'm sure you know, the 'authorities' are meant to issue sanctions against misdemeanours, especially those that may cause violence in the crowd.

Gotta laugh.
Let’s be right, foul and abusive language is a criminal offence, but for some reason deemed acceptable at the football most of the time. In other words, old plod don’t act on it.
I agree with the club, in that families with young kids should be able to attend a game without having to expose their children to some of the language you hear at the game.
If those parents feel that they don’t want their kids exposed to it that is their right as parents, in the same way I have seen plenty of families at games where the parents are the ones shouting verbal abuse....I don’t agree with that personally but that’s the way they bring up their kids so who are we to tell them to stop it.

So the club either Police it and issue penalties to stop it, or they think of a better way to resolve the issue. They are not saying any fans identified will be prosecuted....when in reality they could. But they are saying they will be moved to another area where the folk surrounding them are less likely to be offended.

As it is, IMHO anyone who knows they are inclined to shout offensive language should be aware of it and put themselves in a place they aren’t going to cause offence. The club has to think about the future, and we need the fans to come to the club and support the team, and help grow the fan base.
If those families decide not to come due to the actions of a few then that is bad news for the club.
Eh?
