Exactly, I like to converse with original opinions as opposed to factual regurgitated stuff.
Agreed, but it does no harm to know what the facts are. And the basic fact is that any striker who gets 20 goals a season in the Championship is heading for the Premier League.

Chuffinell! You'd think from some on here that there were 4 games to play and we were staring down the barrel of a gun. It's still summer, we're 5th, were slightly unlucky and beaten by a decent side! Lighten up eh?

Totally agree. It's obvious that's what would make the difference. Total outlay on strikers since Wilder has been here is about 100k on Clarke.
And Leon doesn't owe us a penny.
We should have sold Clarke to help fund a search for a striker
But Chris Wilder didn't want to ......our Manager who has been brilliant for us since he arrived at SUFC. I back Chris Wilder every step of the way.

So if you are so confident then how much much you be willing to gamble?
It’s the easiest thing in the world gambling with other people’s money.

Remember McCabe was massively ambitious with his big ideaof appointing the dream team of Brian Robson and Brian Kidd. Those 2 could attract all the big names like Hugo Egiogue and Gary Cahill.
We really pushed the boat out that season paying out massibe wages but it didn’t end well.

More recently Sheff Wed were close to the promotion places and saw Jordan Rhodes as the final piece.
He was the top quality striker but wanted over £40K a week wages. They showed massive ambition by paying it.
That didn’t end well either.

History has loads of examples where clubs have gambled, bought that top striker and ended up regretting it.

Partially understand what you;re saying but suspect we’ll only sign a value for money striker around the 5 million mark. In today’s market a top quality tried and tested striker will cost over 10 million and want £40K a week minimum.

Yes it was reported Villa offered 5 Million for Leon but Chris wanted him to stay....as he helps our midfield get scoring opportunities....& Leon says he's a Blade now. I can't see us paying anyone 40 million a week to anyone it's just stupid.

This is why our midfielders love Leon ...he always attracts 2 - 3 markers all game , our players can use him as a wall to play off , & he tees up our players with brilliant assists. If I can see this I can't understand why others can't see this ! But I've always been in to tactics & game management & Chris is brilliant at this.

Well you'd lose your bet then, Mr Hypothetical.

Freeman would get more of the ball in our team. If he's available for a reasonable price I hope we go in for him.
There's no going for anyone until Jan 2019 ....which is a long time away.

Players that can obviously make a difference cost money

That's why we always manage without them and hope for the best

It works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't but lack of quality will always cost you when one of your better players is missing and the rest of the squad is a.........squad

Yes Madine the Washing Machine is not fit to play for the Blades with his terrible record he's unstable.
Ps ....every fan with kids would go mad if we signed Madine with his hobby of setting fire to cars & beating people up. No thanks !!!

I heard that but find it hard to believe.
Surely Leon’s valuation, mainly due to his age, is nearer 1 million.

Waghorn is decent but he isn’t a top striker at Championship level and he cost 5 million and reportly over 20K a week, maybe 25K a week. A top striker at this level would cost 10 million and was £40,000 a week and I can’t see that happening, would be madness.

I reckon in the JTW we’ll be looking to spend up to 5 million and 15K a week wages with massive bonuses.
But a that price some fans will probably find the signing underwhelming.

I agree ....if Flecks & Leon had been available to play 90 mins today the result may have been different. But injuries & coming back from am injury is just football.

Surely it has to happen at some point? We can’t pretend it isn’t happening.

Still far to easy to make that assessment, just my opinion. Only 3 teams in the league have scored more than us so far, with a few equalling us, so goals don't appear to be a problem. We also have 9 different goalscorers already, which is a very impressive stat.

Today we just didn't create enough clear cut chances, simple as that, and we have lost to another side who will push for the playoffs.

That being said I am happy to come back in another 10 games and eat humble pie if the goals have dried up.

It’s not just total goals with us, it’s how they are spread out over games and how many points they win us. 12 goals in 7 games may look good on paper, but 7 of those have come in two games, so it’s down to 5 in 5, and we’ve had two blanks in those 5 as well. The same goes for LC, with 19 in 38, his stats for last season may look good, but in reality, he scored 2/3’s his goals in 6 games in September & November. He’s currently out of form with 6 in 30, which isn’t good enough for what we want from a 1st line striker & need as a club moving on an upward trajectory. He also scores the vast majority of his goals at BDTBL. In all honestly since his goal v. Birmingham at the arse end of November last season, he’s been poor in games & trading off good will. He currently resembles an HGV trying to 30 point turn out of a cul-de-sac.

Madine is fucking useless.

He’s certainly not a premiership quality player, and he’s certainly not worth £6m, but he put on a masterclass against us for Bolton at BDTBL last season on how to play the championship forward role, same as McBurnie did this season for Swansea. Neither will be giving Messi a run for his money, but purely hypothetically speaking, either player would make us a more effective unit. Both are better than LC, which looks like being the next position of upgrade.

Plenty of clubs have signed better forwards than us this pre season.

Reading - Baldock
QPR - Wells

Both proven goal scorers in this division.

Wells = 3 games and no goals
Baldock = 7 games and 2 goals

Compare these to Sharp and McGoldrick and then factor in the fees and wages involved and I think we're winning.

Bristol City had a £5Million striker yesterday, he didn't score.
Villa had a bunch of overpriced strikers, we turned them over.

We've started alright and the point is always about creativity. You can have the best striker in the league, but they need chances.

Yesterday we didn't have that creativity in the second half as we were put under pressure, so we didn't get the chances up front.

Its not to say that we don't need a top class striker, however when we beat Villa and Bolton convincingly these sorts of posts weren't flying about.

We've scored the fourth most goals in the division, what's the issue?

For those that seem concerned, if this mythical 24yo pacey Premier League quality striker that fits within our budget was playing for us and had got 6 in 7 instead of those that Duffy, Freeman, Norwood etc did, would you be making a post now complaining we don't score enough from midfield?

Have a like for that bit, just gave me a right giggle :D

Good points made though, and I wouldn't disagree necessarily. i just think the OP is jumping the gun a little after 7 games to say that 'we should have signed him, or should have signed him because our current crop aren't scoring' etc. Like I say in 10 games time I will happily admit I was wrong if the goals aren't coming regularly.

I agree, if we had a few more players who were really good at football we'd be a better team.

Another season where if we were better than every other fucker we'd win the league.

There must be someone to blame for other fuckers having better fuckers than our fuckers . It had to me someone's fault.

Madine is top of L1 bottom four of Championship level at best. He would not have been a signing to kick us on. McBurnie was never going to come for us - he knew he would get a chance at Swansea and they have paracute payments to give him a wage we wouldnt have paid.

Yes, we probably could do with a quality addition up front, but it's early doors, Sharp has been scoring and Washington and Leon could come good.
