You cannot ever hope to achieve success by consistently selling your best players and replacing them with the likes of Fortune.
Not only he is not good enough but it sends a message to the rest of the team, undermines confidence and leaves us unable to even play the way Blackwell envisages.

Which of the goals conceeded do you attribute to the inclusion of Mr Fortune?

Daz re that last sentence...when has it ever been any different? apart from a short period of time under Kendal and Spackman? that is the blades I'm afraid.

also re the comments about not 'feeling like its our club' or 'feeling part of it anymore' that I am afraid is football nowadays. Ask any old time Chelsea fan or Manure fan and they will say exactly the same despite winning loads of trophies.

re the Donny playing football coments...you really are seriously deluded. we have amongst the biggest whinging set of fans in the country. anyone who thinks they/we would rather watch passing football and be 13th in the league 4 points off 4th bottom is having a laugh. I can see this board now, it would be full of 'its alright knocking it about but we want to see some victories' kind of comments.

All of them, Foxy. The inclusion of any player has an effect on the whole team. The team conceded 3 and he was part of it. One cannot blame him individually for the goals but one can bemoan the effect his signing and selection has on the team.

They are less with him in it.

Passing football is enabling little Donny to punch well above their weight. It is doing Forest and WBA no harm.

People actually enjoy watching it. It's how football is supposed to be played!

I have to admit, here and now, that I not seen the Blades at all this season.

After the debacle of the Play-off final, where I paid £100 each per seat for all my family including 6 year old grandkids, I came away completely deflated, so we didn't get any season tickets and decided to "pay on the day" during this season.

Well to date, we've not been once, home or away, and it'll be my first time ever, since I was 6 years old (that's now over 54 years) that I won't have seen a Blades game live.

Trouble is, is there is no "spark".

Tell you what Pinchy, Monty's presence really shored things up yesterday didn't it?

At least the brilliant support yesterday had a goal to cheer.

Some great stuff on this string by the way - really enjoyed it.

You can't say that on here Pinchy - someone famously said Donny were doing nothing of note - 'look where passing football gets Donny' was the phrase - very, very amusing for me. Having said that, I think Donny will be dangerously close to relegation but even then, they are still punching miles above their weight.

Re-read the post.
Signing the likes of Fortune to replace Kilgallon tells the rest of the team where we're at.
Why you can't see how that affects the players, the club, the fans is beyond me.

Didn't fortune start year last year? Well before Kilgallon was sold.

I didn't say it was because it was direct though, I don't mind playing direct as long as we're quite entertaining. Warnock never had us playing pretty football but I felt we got value for money more often than not.

I assume it must be Fortune that rendered Kyle Walker completely unable to affect the advances of the wingers/fullbacks then?

Is that why we aren't top of the league? because Fortune came to the club pre-season?

What did the players think when he scored our first goal the other day? I'd imagine that probably put them over the edge?

Is there a particular reason that one player has to be blamed for the failings of other more popular players?

Signing the likes of Fortune when you've sold your second best defender undermines the club.
Selling your best players full stop undermines the club.
It drains away the confidence of everyone. To some, it was quite obvious what impact it had last Tuesday with a dreadful defensive performance against a very poor side.
It was underlined yesterday. When you keep cutting eventually the lifeblood drains away.

We signed Fortune ages ago sue to low numbers in his area, we re-signed him recently for similar reasons without him ever actually leaving the club.

Did the original signing not count? or has he been draining the lifeblood and undermining the club from day one?

So the last two matches, have been purely down to a lack of confidence due to the resigning of Jon Fortune?

Are you saying that the "complete player who is a class above all the division" as you keep saying was so off put by the inclusion of another player in the squad that he was rendered unable to tackle?

Is it really that one man's fault that the others made mistakes and failed to perform?

I'm not convinced myself.

That's because you don't have the wisdom of lenners.
"The sky is falling in!"
"No it's not, lenners."
"Yes it is, because I have said it is."
"Ah."

Like I said Foxy, you're completely unable to read the post.
Signing Fortune and selling Kilgallon is symbolic of everything that is happening at United.
You choose not to see this and that's your choice.
Just about everyone else, including the management, players and the fans do see it.

Like I said Foxy, you're completely unable to read the post.

Read it word for word Len... Once again you are ducking the questions.

I hope to god we don't sign anyone else, it's already taken most of their attributes, it might suck away their abilities to run as well.

While I may not agree with Foxys views on his defending of Fortune, this is a very bold statement from you.... Have you spoke to all of these people directly?

I'm not particularly defending Fortune, more suggesting that other people were at fault and not just the ones he already dislikes ;)

Has he hell. It's his own opinion, and did you not know the word of lenners is enough? If he said it was dark outside at mid-day you would be ridiculed for doubting him.

I'm not ducking any questions. You choose not to recognise what effect selling Kilgallon and replacing him with Fortune has on the morale of United, from the management, to players and fans.
Just as some couldn't handle the reality on Tuesday, you can handle it even less now.
Doesn't matter, the performances, crowds and season ticket sales will speak for themselves.

I'm not ducking any questions.

Ah, okay then, there's me thinking you hadn't answered them :)

No I don't, it was always going to have an effect. What I don't agree with is that you can blame Jon Fortune's inclusion in the team for the mistakes other players have been making.

Confident or not, defenders should be able to at least manage a couple of tackles in a game, or at least sending someone down the line.

Just as some couldn't handle the reality on Tuesday, you can handle it even less now.

Which reality is this?

Can I ask how you came to the conclusion that Jon Fortunes signing made so many players crap yesterday?

How did you think Kyle Walker played against a championship winger?

Doesn't matter, the performances, crowds and season ticket sales will speak for themselves.

As you've been saying for years, like Leeds and Wednesday getting to the Premiership before we did.

Has he hell. It's his own opinion, and did you not know the word of lenners is enough? If he said it was dark outside at mid-day you would be ridiculed for doubting him.

Be careful he once told me the sky is actually black and particles in the atmosphere bla bla bla - He did have toadmit that the grass was green though.

Come on Webbo, you can't have a pop at Leonard for his selectivity then have a pop at Kyle Walker every time we lose just because he's some sort of fans' favourite.

Blimey len. Are you suggesting that we're in some sort of denial?

I've been watching United since I was a kid. I know it's usually shit. I recognise there's a football foodchain and I know our place in it. I realise that place is currently sliding after years of slow progression. I know that's not a good thing. Tell me when you start to disagree...

Of course we need a better replacement for Kilgallon than Fortune. But what his signing represents is not the abandonment of hope and ambition. It's a reflection of situation that can't be put right quickly or easily. That's all.

He told me he was going to Paris with Melanie Sykes.

First off.... Don't call me Webbo!! :D

I'm singling out Walker purely for this conversation, as Len argues that he has nothing to learn and has already made it... It's an attempt to use specifics to get him to engage in conversation, rather than being less specific and him ignoring the parts he doesn't feel like discussing :)

I don't know why lenners hasn't been appointed by United to handle transfer dealings. It's obvious we need a new central defender. Perhaps lenners could enlighten us with who he'd sign. As fas as I'm aware it's more than a matter of saying to a player "We want you to play for us, let's be having you Sonny Jim." I am also led to believe that perhaps we might not be able to pay the highest transfer fees or wages, and that there are players who might not want to live further north than Watford or further south than Byker Grove. It migh talso be the case that we've tried to buy players and their club has turned us down.

Who should we sign then? John Terry won't come, because none of the United players has a fit enough girlfriend. Nemanja Vidic would be too expensive, and he'll be off to Real Madrid soon anyway. Rio Ferdinand won't come because there are no bad-ass mofos in Sheffield, Joleon Lescott won't come because he says Blackwell has said he looks "like a Kilngon" and Jags is injured.

So now those have been discounted, who should we sign? Tell us please who you KNOW would have come if it'd been you doing the asking. Unless of course it's not that simple.

You've got more chance of plaiting fog. If it doesn't match his agenda then it won't even merit discussion.

Speaking for myself, I would have solved this problem by not selling the perfectly good central defender we already had.
