What I find really annoying (but not surprising as football has long been run by a bunch of idiots) is that all the problems of lines, perspectives and the other issues set out in Johnsons bit must have been known to the PL - or if not they should have been bearing in mind the fairly radical change that was coming in - yet it is only now that all this is coming out when we see the application of VAR in practice. All this should have been sorted out before the introduction and any wrinkles/problems ironed out or the system modified (or may be a different system used). The limitations are now so glaringly obvious to all fans, players and managers. There are a number of ways probably of dealing with this. I have always argued for a system of "umpires call" as we have in cricket so that the on field decision stands if it is in within a certain tolerance. However even that does not necessarily solve the problem with the "maths" and begs the question of what the tolerance should be.
In my opinion VAR should be suspended for the rest of the season to see if all these problems can be resolved. This would also give the PL time to make sure that the refs, VAR officials and everyone else knows what VAR is, how to operate and apply it and ensure it is applied consistently as it sure as hell isn't at the moment. If things cannot be rectified then scrap the bloody thing.
