Dermott Gallagher confirmed a 'technician' is responsible for drawing the lines on off-side decisions and 'adjudicator' responsible for deciding on the re-set decision. And this is a 'subjective'.

Wait a minute. What about the referee?

We were denied 2 extra points by a 'technician' and 'adjudicator' 100 miles away looking at computer screens?!

Fxxxing crazy.

Just saw that, I noticed he was non committal on both the '2nd phase' of the goal issue and also the point Warnock made about Dier's push on Moose being no worse than Norwood's 2 minutes earlier. He ALWAYS has an opinion and is very keen to back up the refs so his silence spoke volumes.

I'm not saying there's a conspiracy against us, or that the referee's are biased in any way. But if Tottenham would've scored that goal, there's not a cat in hell's chance that it would have been disallowed...

I hope it doesn't become a tool to keep clubs 'where they are supposed to be' in the pecking order. I agree this wouldn't have been a consideration if it had been the other end of the pitch or if it was a game between the top two clubs in the league.

What I find really annoying (but not surprising as football has long been run by a bunch of idiots) is that all the problems of lines, perspectives and the other issues set out in Johnsons bit must have been known to the PL - or if not they should have been bearing in mind the fairly radical change that was coming in - yet it is only now that all this is coming out when we see the application of VAR in practice. All this should have been sorted out before the introduction and any wrinkles/problems ironed out or the system modified (or may be a different system used). The limitations are now so glaringly obvious to all fans, players and managers. There are a number of ways probably of dealing with this. I have always argued for a system of "umpires call" as we have in cricket so that the on field decision stands if it is in within a certain tolerance. However even that does not necessarily solve the problem with the "maths" and begs the question of what the tolerance should be.

In my opinion VAR should be suspended for the rest of the season to see if all these problems can be resolved. This would also give the PL time to make sure that the refs, VAR officials and everyone else knows what VAR is, how to operate and apply it and ensure it is applied consistently as it sure as hell isn't at the moment. If things cannot be rectified then scrap the bloody thing.

Agreed the current VAR should be suspended immediately. Then just have 1 or 2 matches covered by VAR on Sat and Sunday, possibly using the same ref's. They should then meet up midweek with the FA etc and analyse the results. They can then gradually tweak it and decide at end of season whether to bin or keep it.

With respect you are saying there's a conspiracy against "smaller" prem teams. VAR is spoiling the game for everyone. The same technology would've been used if Lundstram was wearing a white shirt

it wouldn’t have been called in to question IMO had spurs scored the exact same goal

said on another thread that the game ref is now the bitch of some anorak playing computer games in a darkened room.

You mean like that penalty City didn’t get yesterday then the other top team went up the other end and scored

Salah was wearing a red shirt yesterday and they didn't take 3 mins and 45 seconds, nor draw precision perfect lines, to confirm he was onside - it was done and dusted in 30 secs.

Whichever way you look at that it's absolutely horrendous optics.

I take your point. Yes it's inconsistent but I don't believe that there's a bias towards us and others outside the very top few

I hate to be that guy, but if they allowed the first goal (as they should’ve because it was not offside...) we’d have never scored that Baldock one because the whole game would’ve panned out differently, might have gone on to win 3-1, may have been pegged straight back to make it 2-1. You just never know.

How do you know what they did or didn’t do at Stockley Park? They don’t have a screen at Liverpool so Sky might not have got the footage like they do at other games.
They did show briefly that Salah was half a yard onside, later on, because I thought at first he was offside and something dodgy was going on. Then eventually they showed a replay and I saw that the other defender (not the one challenging him), at the bottom of the screen was playing him on.

What qualifications do these people at Stockley Park have. A referee has earnt his stripes at least

So the adjudicator is a referee?
Yes. They are assisted by a ‘technician’ who draws the lines on the screen but the main bloke is just another ref. I think I read they’ve bought someone in from another country (Australia I think) but still a qualified ref.
For me, this is part of the problem, you’re asking someone like Anthony Taylor to overrule someone like Mike Dean. They’re all in it together.
In reality, if you or I had a refresher course on the application of the current laws we could do it. You don’t have to run around to keep up with play, all you’re doing is giving the ref an extra pair of eyes.

rubbish. their goal got a cursory check . our goals always have five minute inquests. so much so i've stopped celebrating

Qualified refs I believe. Lee Mason who reffed us v Southampton (and was awful) was on VAR duty for our game at Everton the week after - and allowed our first goal.

I think they should blank out both the team strips and player faces/profs so you cannot tell which team is which. Don’t tell the studio officials which team is playing which way. In other words so they don’t know which team is attacking.

Then they don’t know who they become biased towards/against. See what happens then !!

Who says they didn't? I'm sure they will have. He also happened to be onside easily.

Moss maybe took so long because it was so tight on the lines and he also had a marginal decision to make on the re-set.

The guidance on re-sets is too loose. Moss was neither righr nor wrong.

So they cant even get a debatable offside decision correct what makes you think they can do all that with the technology ? /\

It would give me a lot more confidence if they adopted the system used in rugby. Open mic clear question from the ref “ any reason I cannot award a goal”. Played back on screen for everyone to see and hear. Nigel Owens had one when was reffing the rugby WC semis and stopped the video official saying “I’ve seen enough, I’m going with my decision”. Problem with football is that you always suspect shenanigans and they do very little to make you think otherwise.
