Sure I read it in FHM around the late 90's in an interview with him.

they also reference it in the guardian of all places but not from the horses mouth:
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/jul/17/the-knowledge-maradona-sheffield-united

Heres the magazine cover: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MARADONA-...nhxQAYApEsxDjYxjxaTFk%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

It seemed to go under the radar a bit in Blade's circles which is amazing really. In the interview he says that he had prepared to go and had travel arrangements planned. I'll have a dig later on this week and see if I can find the magazine. I'll post the quotes on here if I do. The only quotes pertaining to this prior to this interview,- that I know of, - come from people at our end. This gave it the feel of an old wives tale, or someone at our end trying to big themselves up with the old: "I discovered Maradona".

Like you , im also anti social , but im simply staggered that you didnt waltz over , throw your ale over them and tell them to keep their sausage munching , war mongering , teutonic snecks out of our business ..... havent they heard of Brexit . Bastards .

That's antisocial done properly. Well done CHL

Was going to go to Dortmund's game last night, but a combination of bad weather and horrendous roadworks kept me at home. So I watched the game in a sports bar.

What I find amazing is that we're four pages into the thread and nobody has remarked on the fact that you live in a sports bar.

.... and don't even bloody drink :o

I found this whilst looking for another article about Haslam I remember reading. I'm sure I read he had options to buy Ardiles and Villa but sold the options to Spurs to pay for signing Sabella.

Xavi in the May 2016 issue of Four Four Two Magazine. On the front cover: Sheffield United "Great fans". During full interview: "Lower League football in England is another world. The other day, near where I live, a little English kid came up to me , asking for an autograph. I asked him who he supported expecting to hear Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool, Tottenham..."I'm a Sheffield United fan", he said. They're in Leaue One. League One?! And this kid doesn't care about any other team than Sheffield United. Fantastic".
“I follow Middlesbrough because Aitor Karanka is there.

In another interview: “I met a boy the other day. English. He was wearing a Barca shirt but I asked him who he supported. He said: ‘Sheffield United’. I know them, they have 20,000 fans in the third division. That’s incredible. You get that in England http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/row-zed/barcelona-legend-xavi-loves-football-6905548

Also worth mentioning, in the January 2011 edition of Four Four Two magazine, Diego Maradona tells the story of how he almost signed for the Blades. I don't think this has ever been confirmed anywhere else.
Here is said 442, it was in the barbers shop I used some years ago.

Was going to go to Dortmund's game last night, but a combination of bad weather and horrendous roadworks kept me at home. So I watched the game in a sports bar. I sat with a group of Dortmund, Bochum and Hannover fans. I'm an anti social git. I don't like people generally, so I didn't speak to anyone. At half time I heard them all discussing attendances. A Bochum fan mentioned a team in the English 3rd division who were getting 28000. One of the Dortmund fans named us. He knew a lot about us, mentioned the cup runs last year, the age of the club, first floodlit game and us being top this year after a poor start. He even mentioned Billy Sharp, who they all seemed to have heard of. The consensus was that crowds like that would be unthinkable in the German third tier. One of the Bochum fans then went on his phone and spent 5 mins reading out facts about us. So well done all of you who have gone and go,week in and week out. You have got the Blades recognised and respected, abroad.
My niece's Spanish boyfriend was over at Christmas, when I told him about our attendances in Div 3 he was astounded.

That OP has just made my day.

I hope the powers that be at the club read this and realise that once again it's the Blades supporters that are it's greatest asset.

Wasn't it Xavi or Iniesta a couple of years ago made reference to our supporters? As did Pochettino in a Spanish newspaper.
It was apparently Xavi who the story goes got talking to an English kid. He asked who the kid supported and when he said Sheffield United said I know them they get 20k crowds in div 3

More famous praise whilst we're all patting each other on the back...

"Places like this are the soul of English football. The crowd is magnificent, saying
'**** off Mourinho' and so on.

Jose Mourinho revels in the abuse he received from Blades fans at Bramall
Lane.

---

Asked about the best atmosphere he had experienced in his time in England,
Pochettino picked Bramall Lane. ‘They are a historic club currently in the third tier
and for a Cup game there were 35,000 people in the stadium. So it’s that not Old
Trafford, or Stamford Bridge or the Emirates that stands out,’ he told Primer Toc.

Oh Sheffield ist wunderbar Sheffield ist wunderbar voller Titten Fanny und United Sheffield ist wunderbar

January 2016, on a cruise ship in the southern Caribbean. The Italian restaurant manager collared me asking about my shirt (70's red white and black striped one). "Ah yes, Sheffield United" he exclaims, "you get like 20,000 people for games yes, bigger crowds than my team, Internazionale, we are shit!" Not verbatim you understand as he spoke at 100mph, but he knew quite a bit about us and our recent history. Makes you feel a little proud in a strange way, talking about the Blades to foreign people on foreign shores when they've actually heard of us!!
