Realistically though

we really could go up this season.

Even with our current poor points per game return, lots of others have been as inconsistent as us otherwise we wouldn't be within 4 or 5 points of still being able to make it.
With 14 games to go, Billy Blade in good form and possibly one or two additions when the 93 day rule kicks in, I reckon we're in with a really good chance.

After all, it would be a real pisser if we do go on a decent enough run and make it, only to look back and regret all the time we spent moaning and groaning when we could be limbering up for a party finish to the season.

I don't suppose the Dingles thought they'd be considering promotion a few weeks ago but look at them now. So come on Blades, let's try and look at things from a more positive angle and start thinking about our end of season celebrations at Wembley. Come on you red and white wizaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrdds

Was thinking that last night as I was staring at the fixtures on statto.com for an hour. However, we would need to win at least 8 of or last 14 games. Don't see that happening unless we win the next 4 on the bounce.

We need 73 points.
25 from our last 14.

Possible, but need to show consistency, we have struggled to achieve so far.

I keep reading the hare and the tortoise to my grandaughter. And what happened in that story? Realistic or what.the blades .sorry the tortoise was victorious in the end the moral to this story its to early to give up yet

So.... Does this mean Dean Hammond is going to win a race?

World peace, Alien invasion, Elvis found alive on the moon, United promoted - any of that could happen this year.

By the time of the playoff final I predict all our ex players will be already on a nice sun kissed beach...

Imagine our midfield and defence on that big pitch at Wembley, all that extra space for the opposition to run into.....nightmarish isn't it, we'd be showed up worse than ever if that is even possible....??

Just need the top 6 to fall asleep now then.

Not so Gavlarrrrrrrr.

On inspection of the Statto table we have yet to play 6 of the top 7. We don't need them to fall asleep but if we can beat them all it could turn our fortunes around. I know it's not the Blades but yer never know.

We are 8th, and there are eight teams below us within six points of us.

So we need to perform better than at least two of the teams above us, and hope than none of the eight below us go on a better run than us

So who is going to slip out of the top 6 to make room for us?

Burton - NO
Wigan - NO
Gillingham - NO
Walsall - Doubt it
Millwall - Perhaps
Coventry - Best chance ?

We will miss out by one point on the last day, it will make for a great last day though.

I'll have some of what you're smoking!)

In all seriousness tho, this isn't about realism. A realist could tell you we're arent going to make the playoffs. An optimist will tell you we still have an outside chance of autos, and a pessimist (like me) will say we will be lucky to avoid relegation.

Realistically, we haven't been consistently good enough all season, and the squad hasn't improved so really we aren't gonna make the playoffs. I certainly hope I'm wrong on that tho.

Blind faith and optimism is the key . Adkins is preaching this and daft as it seems it may well work . Nothing to lose , everything to gain. Let's go for it and at the same time soak up the lovely ground and academy .:D

Hmmmm Coventry last away fixture of the season, has a real footballing gods feel to it ;):)

I think Walsall and Millwall could slip up. Millwall have a novice manager and have been a bit hit and miss, Walsall not quite as good since Smith left.

It's a tight league, there are clubs below us you wouldn't write off completely so you can't write us off either. It's just that we've become accustomed to failing at the last so we assume it will happen again.

But the ones we have a chance of catching (the 3 directly above us) we play all away from home. We would probably need to win all 3 or at least take 7 points as well as picking up a reasonable ratio in our home games to make it. Not impossible but unlikely IMO. If we carry on as we have throughout the season, we will finish on 69 points with current 6th place Coventry finishing on 77 points and overtaking Millwall who finish 6th on 76 points.

Our only real chance in my opinion is if we could bring in a loan of real game-changing quality like when we brought in Andy Reid or Matt Phillips but think we’re more likely to end up with a Michael O Halloran or John Cofie.

Not sure it's a case of slipping up. Some of them have played above their expectation and some not. Mostly in years previously, teams just can't keep up with themselves. Look at Tranmere and Leyton Orient who were ripping it up and fell away about now.

I am not a huge Adkins fan right now, but he is winning me over. I do like the fact he isn't scared to try something new (tactics) when it's not working, and hopefully he will find what he's looking for before it's too late.

This isn't over just yet.

Did anybody hear the interview where Phipps wrote this season off and then the next one as well? ... . I mean a week or so,before McCabe desperately got an interview arranged on Radio Sheffield to back track with meaningless waffle his eyes on the season ticket renewals?

I think Phipps told the truth, and that is why we have heard little from him since and why we will probbaly hear little from him in the future.

I think it highly unlikely that this squad is any thing like good enough to get the results to make the play offs, and I am Damm sure its not good enough to win them.

Think every other manager , club , supporters will be saying exactly the same about us . Thing is , we are so poor , inconstistant that dafter things happen in football , and Adkins positive gets on everybodies nerves thinking , with mind over matter , could get us over the line .

Ready for a hero or two . Let's see who steps up to the mark.

who knows
Derby County were secure leaders of the championship a year ago today , they even missed the play offs

the pressure starts now and all the top 6 play each other , who knows who will crumble

burtons lost their last 2 away games
coventry went through a rough patch
no ones guarenteed to keep winning

Scunthorpe boss reckons they still can make it
so why should we give up

Ideal scenario - we make the top 6 on the last day and Coventry lose out by 1 goal. Their goal that was never given at the Lane. Would be nice to have a bit of luck like that.

I had a dream the other night.

League One Play-Off Final 2016
Gillingham 0-4 Sheffield United

That would have a delicious symmetry about it. But it seems very far fetched. Have we even beaten anybody by 3 this season (Worcester aside)? 4 against a better team than us seems near impossible.
