I think the below criteria is a decent indicator of what criteria we (As fans) might be looking for in a manager. But what do you think out of that lot is the most important? Rank away folks from 1-10 (1 being the most important, and you can assign equal rankings if you want)

• Championship Experience.
• Keeping us up
• Ability to get us promoted from the championship
• Will bring academy kids through
• Changes the playing style to something more attractive
• Plays winning football
• A good nose for cheap lower league purchases.
• Passionate
• A previous connection with the club
• Isn't Paul Hart

After you've done the ranking, has that affected who you think should be the prime candidate?

I would have firmly had this view a while ago, but Micky will become the manager and then we'll likely stay up playing percentage football. Great.

But then, we'll be in the same holding pattern for the remainder of his contract. Players such as Andy Reid won't play for us for seasons and we'll go back to being the archetypal rough and ready SUFC everyone already sees us as.

Where do I mention I'm desperate to see wonderful football? I simply want a change with some long term thinking. The culture that has been at the club for the last two and a half decades got a us a handful of seasons in the top league where we struggled. We're potentially on the cusp of making the same mistakes again.

Of course I'll give him a chance. That doesn't mean I have to be joyous with the appointment.

First point first - Reid is good. I'd love to have him in our squad, but I reckon he'll end up at a middling Premier League side, like maybe Brum or Wigan. Third - is it mainly down to Ward, or does he need special coaching/cuddling/bollocking?

A decent central defender to partner Bartley is a must. Nosworthy is far too hit and miss. He can have a decent 85 minutes, but then those five minutes of madness drop us right in the cacky.

Pride, passion, commitment. Hmmm. This is the tricky bit. Maybe Micky Adams could be the man for the job. He's a Blade before he starts, after all.

And now the hard one. Getting Williamson fit. You may as well ask for the moon on a stick, because although he's a decent player he's a crock. If he was a horse you'd have had the vet out, shot him, dragged him off to Pedigree Petfoods, rendered him down for Williamson and Marrowbone Chum, boiled his bones for glue, bought a puppy, trained it, fed it Chum, taken it for a walk, picked up it's shit in a bag, dropped it in a bin, and put up some wallpaper with the Williamson flavored wallpaper paste. Get Williamson fit? Easier said than done.

That's got to be better than the current view most visiting managers seem to have.

I remember arguing with our old friend Curtis who insisted that Willo was a crock when he got injured pre-season just after we signed him. If you look at his record before we signed him, he'd played just about every game for Watford in the previous 2 seasons. Yes, he's been a crock with us and yes, he's had a serious injury but if, and it's a big if, the operation has sorted it, there's no reason why he can't come back. It's not as if he's got problems with hamstrings a la Wardy, it was a back problem which, hopefully, has now been sorted.
