Don't think there's much value in Championship CFs this year, so would like us to gamble on a goal scorer from abroad rather than overpaying for tosh.

Ragnar Ache, 9 goals in 13 appearances in the German second division. Physical striker. Great in the air and very strong, so we wouldn't have the Benie Traore issue. Sharp finisher too, with goals from inside and outside the box.

Plays for Kaiserslauten who are a fallen giant and have had financial difficulty. Their record sale was 4 million euros 25 years ago, so can't image it would take much.

We need someone to have a word with the tea lady and get this passed on to Wilder.

I'd love for us to take a punt on someone like this, won't happen though unfortunately.

Work permit? Not too sure of the rules these days.

I'm a big fan of Wilder and would love him to have a long and prosperous role in the clubs hierarchy - in whatetver form that might be. However, if we are to be truly successful then we must do far far better fishing in the European and worldwide transfer market.

That is my only real criticism of Wilder - his potential transfer pool, generally speaking, is far too narrow and restrictive.

Maybe the job of finding future players should be (or already is) out of his hands.

I don't think it's ever been Wilders job to find future players, that's what the scouting, recruitment and analytics teams are supposed to do.

Wilder probably wants certain players that he's seen or had playing for him before, e.g. Baldock or Enda Stevens. But most of the signings will comes from players advised by the above teams.

The club obviously needs to branch out their scouting network into other countries and leagues, but that takes a lot of time and money

I went to the Sydney FC v Central Coast Mariners game on Saturday and a young lad called Adrian Segecic came on for Sydney and scored a 22 min hat trick . Yeah the A league ain’t great standard but does produce some good players. Be interesting to see if he ends up in Europe at some point

Other strikers doing well in minor leagues abroad included Michael Higdon and Benie Traore...

German second division isn't far from championship standard at all (could possibly be better).

Benie will have a decent career in europe but wasn't robust enough, certainly to be thrown in at the deep end in the prem.
He's 22 now and seems to be getting better, capped 5 times now by ivory coast too.
I wouldn't have been against having Benie this season to see what he could do on the left wing, but 4.5 mil was too good to turn down.

Higdon - gash. No further words needed.

Ur allowed to sign upto 3 players who don't qualify for a standard work permit these days
He could travel on a boat n ditch his ID on the way.Bettis n Wilder could meet him on a beach in Dover for example, sling him in the back of a rented transit and head North.
I think it's been tried with "overseas visitors" once or twice, successfully I'm given to understand.🤪

Especially when we've had so much success when buying abroad. Even the failures (Slimane, Traore) get sold for profit.

I agree that the remit for identifying and scouting players goes much wider than the Manager. However if you look at the facts I think you'll find that the majority of our signings since 2016 have Wilder's DNA all over them - and hey I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, I'm a big Wilder fan.

Look at the signings in the 12, I think, windows that Wilder has been manager compared to the 5 windows, I think, in the period that he wasn't manager. The ratio of foreign players signed in those 5 far exceed those signed in Wilder's 12 - and I assume we have had more or less the same size/resourced ish scouting network.

I think one of the main reasons we don't sign many foreign players under Wilder is that he's meticulous in his background checks and wants to make sure players have the right character. Obviously it's harder to do those checks when the player is in a different country!

Or he gets a nosebleed south of Watford?

That's exactly my point in my original post (#15). I'm not knocking Chris, but if we are to be truly successful (eg consolidate in the prem) we need to fish in a bigger pond!
