I don't normally go along with the whole "Radio Sheffield is biased against us" spiel.
But what the hell were they playing at after the match tonight?
Sheffield United had just won a vital local derby against Chesterfield 4-1.
What better time then to feature lengthy interviews about cricket and boxing!
It would have been good to hear Danny's thoughts on the match or maybe one of the players.
Failing that one of our fans ringing in to celebrate us going back above Wednesday.
But sadly no, local hero Kell Brook, not so local hero Graham Swann and a quick replay of the goals..
Job done, tune in tomorrow morning when Toby Foster might mention the match.

Couldn't agree more - got back in the car, turned radio on and then switched over because I thought I was listening to Radio 5!

They got close I mean Kell Brook is a Blades fan.

They did say that they were waiting for the managers and also they weren't exactly inundated by calls. The guests would have gone as they would only have been paid until the end of the match so what was the commentator supposed to do, have a conversation with himself or sit humming and drumming his fingers...

So while i did not call last night . I did call at 9.48 the night we beat scunthorpe and know several other Blades that also called that night. can you please come up with a valid excuse why they did not feature any Blades calls that night yet featured over a Hour of crying pigs concerned about their ex manager?

Lets not forget that the other week when Megson got sacked and we played, they extended the show for us... just so that we could hear Wendy's moaning about Megson being sacked!!!

I don't really buy into this biase thing, I try to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I thought last night that it all finished very quickly.

4-1 is also a very big statement in the promotion push. I get the impression that RS think that Wednesday still have the upper hand and that we just keep responding to them!

Its very short sighted of them and very blinkered. They've made a lot of derogatory comments against the Blades, they really played on the Danny Wilson thing and yet they haven't hung on to the comments that Pigs made about Megson and Mandaric when they have been so fickle!

But, lets hope that we have the last laugh on this. I've been allowing wendy fans to big themselves up this season, then quietly remind them of our presence and position.

The end of the season will hopefully be sweet for the Blades!

I do think this Radio Pig nonsense is a bit daft, but i have to say Seth annoyed me a tad last night. He didnt raise his voice for any of our goals yet seemed to do a sex wee when Chezzie scored.

its so obvious now, if we get automatic promotion i am going to simply call up and say in your face you piggy bastards.

As for last night the said on the radio they were waiting for the 2 managers then that never happened.

I actually thought that their praise of Ched, his goals and general performance was excellent. They went really over the top on praising him, seemed like they were in awe – and that was all that they concentrated on really.

Not sure where the same praise has been for the other 27 goals, but a hat trick and hitting 30 goals perhaps awakened them from their slumber

As we can see, radio sheffield is blue and white..and full of shite.....

I don’t believe that not one person phoned in to talk about the match and if they didn’t, why not put out a request for calls like they normally do?

I’ll wager that 99% of people listening to Radio Sheffield at 21:45 last night were Blades or Chesterfield supporters, either having listened to the commentary or coming home from the match.

I’ll also wager that 0% of listeners had tuned in to find out what Graham Swann’s thoughts were on the Test Match. There are plenty of other media outlets available for that anyway.

Radio SHEFFIELD should be concentrating on LOCAL sport, especially on a night when a local derby has been played. Certainly when almost everyone listening has tuned in for that very reason. It’s definitely poor coverage, biased or not.

Yeah, my brother said this. He listened on BBC Radio Pig and said the commentator (he thought it was Paul Walker, but he's a bit thick) was very downcast when we scored and then went mental when Chezzie equalised.

For those who can't get BBC RP, I can assure you, it's not our imagination. They're biased.

i too thought it strange when expecting to hear them talking about a great derby match cheds hat trick and 30th goal of the season to tune is and hear a cricket interview followed by a boxing interview and then our goals fitted in at the end with hardly a voice change for our 4 yet chesterfields was like they had won the JPT again ? ?

to be fair to Rob Staton who was on last night i did raise this question on Twitter with him and he did reply.
saying the managers didn't come out to speak till after 10 and he couldn't go in the dressing room and drag them out, he did put the audio on twitter.

It may have been Paul Walker. I find it hard to distinguish between the two, as i too am a bit thick.

They featured more than an hour then they followed it up with another hour or so of crying on Toby Fosters show the following morning. Although that night after 10pm and for 24 hours on wards you would of never of guessed United had played a match.

There was a classic quote as I got out of my car - not many Blades fans are ringing up tonight, I wonder where they are? They were on their way to the match you muppets, isn't it obvious. Switched to radio 5 after the match and was delighted to hear Jamie Hoyland's reply to the question 'what did you want to achieve when you started out in football?" Without any hesitation he said 'I just wanted to play for Sheffield United'.

Remember meeting Jamie at his Dad's boozer years ago (early 90's IIRC) - real stand up lad and a so down-to-earth. And of course, a Blade through and through...can't ask for much more than that I guess?

I thought exactly the same, why not have an in depth conversation with King Edwards? I mean, bloody boxing? Crickeeeeet? They could have played that earlier, if not today.
I sort of rushed back to the car to hear the post match analysis to be greeted by something only about 1% of listeners wanted to hear. Don't they realise fans had to make their way back to their transport/home etc?
Even if they HAD t play the boxing stuff, they could've played it for the immediate 10 mins after the match (or indeed half time) so that when people returned to their cars they could hear about THE MATCH!!!!!

I wonder how The Stir will cover the match as their beloved Pigs didn't play?

there's definitely something in it.. we play a match.. get turned straight off.. pigs paint a turnstile.. over to hillsboro now for an interview with the painter and decorator.. 'it wer a massive job.. blah f**king blah'..
you have to say though the megson stuff was epic.. although not in the way RS intended

Normal state of after match when Wendies have played is;

RS: On next it's Terry and he's an Owl. What is it Terry praise or grumble?
Fowl Terry: It's a praise for Wendy - they were t'rrific toneet.
RS: Have you been down to Hillsborough tonight then Terry?
Fowl Terry: Nah, mate but it sounded reet good ont' wireless.

Whereas most of the Blades fans that phone up have been to the game and those of us who cannot get to every game keep schtum cos we cannot give a first hand account and we are listening for those (except Brian) that can provide that perspective.

Pretty certain it was Paul Walker doing the commentary last night. Keith called him Paul several times and I am sure that he can tell the difference between Walker and Seth. However, I too thought he was more excited about any threat that Chesterfield had than any Blades attack.

To be fair, as an exile, we are relatively grateful for small mercies so to be able to listen to the game when you can't be there - even though you have to pay for Blades Player - beats the previous alternative of watching score updates on ceefax any day (and we thought that was a major break through at the time).

I rarely listen to Radio Sheffield, but I know Paul Walker is a United fan. He's a decent enough chap who probably wishes he lived a city with one football team.

Bear in mind that Radio Pig is Chessies local station as well, and given they were big underdogs last night, and Walkers know affiliation, I can understand him being a bit more, enthusiastic, than perhaps he should be.

That doesn't excuse the complete lack ov coverage afterwards...if Wendy win on Saturday expect all 40 mins between 2:15 and 3 to be filled with the big news that they have gone second (albeit possibly for all of 2hours...)

If Paul Walker is a decent enough chap tell him from me his impression of a sanctimonious cock socket is bang on next time you see him.

Paul Walker is the best one on there in my opinion. I always thought he was a Blade too.

He's a radio presenter. The job advert specified "Sanctimonious Cock Socket" as a must-have skill.

"sanctimonious cock socket" best description I've ever heard.:p

Its not just the coverage against Chezzy either. Dont know if anyone else heard the goals summary v Tranmere and also Notts County???? Against Tranmere on the goal summary all we got was Tranmeres equalizer. Against County all we got was countys second!!!!!!!!!!!!! its like Radio Pig is almost trying to deny our existance (did we actually play scunny at home?). It would seem that now things are boiling up nicely and the pressure is on, both Mr's Staton and Walker and all at Radio Pig are struggling to hide the piggy within.
