Radio Sheff burning bridges

It's all about them. Radio Sheffield do not care about splitting the fans views on Ched. Even a few days before our promotion party v Chezzy. Listeners are all they care about as was proved last night. Could they have waited until after Sunday? Of course they could. Would the news have had less impact if released after the Chezzy game.? Again, yes. Neither United or Chezzy have released any news on this so it all comes down to Radio Sheffield wanting to break the news first. If anyone was ever in any doubt as to what this station stands for well take a good look. ROTTEN TO THE CORE!

But Radio Sheffield is paid for by everyone and provides news for everyone.
It doesn't and shouldn't work for Sheffield United or any other organisation or individual.
All you've described is a part of the media doing its job.

Each time the news bulletin comes on RS they use the phrase "Radio Sheffield, who broke the story...", it seems that they are somewhat proud of this fact.

I'm very interested to see what an official from SUFC says in a statement. I imagine we're all pretty seething to be honest. Season not over. Champions trophy on Sunday. Playing Chesterfield too !

If this was all such a marvellous long-planned idea then, why not have him sign a pre-contract in January and have him join for nothing in the summer?

Chesterfield had an option to extend Evans' contract by 12 months which they've taken up.

Loughboro - and then the 'discussions' between us would have happened right in the middle of the season instead of right at the end AFTER we have become Champions

Fair do's – wasn't aware that the option was a club-activated one (given all of ours in recent seasons have tended to be player-held options)

I suppose we have to suck it up and realise that if journalists get information, they have to report it and that's that. Whether we like the information or not.

The question I'd like to know the answer to, which I probably never will, is exactly where the information came from.

So why, still no statement from the club.

As with any transfer, they always state they conduct their business away from the press. I'm sure Wilder and McCabe are annoyed its got out but this transfer is obviously going to attract media attention and would always have journalists all over it trying to break it first. That's what I think anyway mate.

Why do we need to have a statement. We are just going about our business. It's radio pigshit causing all the hype. Let the club wait and announce when they are good and ready.

Agree with what you say Booker4, and there is still time today for a statement. But generally when transfers are reported CW is on blades player or club website giving the why's and wherefores.

Which bridges are they burning? I bet it's the ones near the Lane that we use and not the ones near the Don in South Barnsley; piggy bastards!

Fortunately most of them are made of concrete and steel so their piggy fire raising will have little long term effect.

Maybe the club leaked the story to the media as to "soften" the impact, or at least let "Das Shitstorm" die down before the official announcement is made. By that time everyone has let off their initial knee jerk reactions and possibly be looking at the decision slightly more rationally in a week or so.

We only need a statement when a transfer happens . Why do we need one now when it hasn't ?

It's a nice theory but before the last game, celebrations and presentation of the Trophy?

P.S- A week or two later, everyone would have been on their jollies and it would have been a few column inches for a day or two and a bit of Twitter/Facebook nonsense...instead it'll be a dominant subject every day up to Sunday and Wilder is bound to get it chucked at him sooner or later. :(

Let everyone get their knickers in a twist now. Then focus back on footy Sunday. Announce it sometime next week. Who know's?

Maybe Radio Sheff got a whisper and backed us into a corner over it.

As much as I want to blame Radio Sheffield, they are a media outlet and have a job to break stories. The Football Heaven team would have all looked numpties (more than normal) had they held off breaking it, only for Hallam FM to break it instead, or a national station.

I think from memory he only does that once the signing is complete though?

The issue isn't Radio Sheffield or The Guardian or the BBC or anyone else reporting the story. They're all paid to do so. The issue is that the story - one which should have been confidential - is sufficiently public that all those outlets have picked it up.

People in the know:
United - would want to keep it quiet until after the last game of the season
Evans - would want to keep it quiet to make sure it goes through
Chesterfield - don't give a shit. Boardroom a mess, debts all over the place.

I'm no expert but my guess as to the source of the leak would start and end at the Chesterfield side. That's probably why the fee is being reported far higher than it probably is: an attempt to appease their fans.

United, Chesterfield nor Ched Evans have made official (or even any) comment on this news item. Until they do, I'm regarding this as fake news. The Stir and Radio Sheffield have both jumped on it like it came straight from CW's mouth. I hope they're forced to eat their own writings. As for the situation, I have my opinions but I'm trying (it's difficult) to hold on to them until the news is official.

Yeah, certainly re: Radio Sheffield/Journo's once it's 'leaked' there's not much you can do, it's their job...

What I actually meant was that if McCabe had simply waited till after the Chessie game to hook up with Ched (he's not exactly low profile is he?) and 'put the wheels in motion' there would have been no story to 'leak'...no whisper's, no nothing.

Why the rush?

I can't believe this was planned for this time...not even by our board, that would be plain daft, it won't be gone by Sunday, we're playing Chessie ffs, you couldn't make it up!

I agree with Staton on this. If they find out such news and have reliable information to publish as accurate, then their remit is to get that information out there first. To not do so would be to fail at their job.

The issue is why and how they been made aware and have enough information to consider this accurate. But it is hardly unusual, people within football are hardly known for discretion in such matters. If SUFC and/or CFC are pissed off about the news breaking, it should be with those who alerted the media and they need to review who they can trust with sensitive information.

The intimation is that the deal is happening now, so you have to ask why SUFC feel that doing this now is appropriate timing. Are there an unknown number of clubs also beating down the door for CE's signature?

The only thing that bothers me with this is the potential for this to detract from the achievements of this seasons squad. I hope that there are no Evans chants on Sunday, but realistically there will be some, however muted.

Considering the mess they're in I'd have thought Chesterfield would also fit into the Evans stance you give. They're away this weekend with few fans. No need to appease their fans before Sunday.

Sean Thornton isnt a bullshitter and says he's heard that the leak could be at our end and KM is furious.

Agree mate. Maybe there had been too much happiness on the Forums so Foxy leaked it to make the place more interesting.

I'm still struggling to understand why this is an issue, we're signing a new player that's all. It's not going to change anything on Sunday, anyone who is going to enjoy Sunday less due to this news needs to get a grip.

Yeh but some people thrive on drama and love being offended.
It's the current fashion and now that we live in the Facebook and Twitter era, it's getting out of hand.
These days it's trial by Twitter, its a crazy world we live in.
