Always a pleasure Fiery. I'm not here to blow smoke up your arse but neither are you totally wrong in your assessment of the situation. I don't like the fact we have to sell players for small amounts but when the market is Hull City or paying Quinn another £10k, £15k, or £20k per week (whoever you decide to believe) actually the amount is irrelevant against what it would have cost to keep him for another 12 months.
I think McCabe has made a complete horlicks of the club I love and I blame him somewhere between 90 and 100% for completely screwing it up, but selling Quinn wasn't what got us here. Selling Beattie, Kilgallon and the rest had more to do with it. Building castles in the sky for a world cup we were never getting. Poncy hotels and business centres. Clubs in China and fuck knows where else. All at the expense of the first team investment. How many millions of the clubs money he wasted having initially set up a fantastic business model for a club.
Watching players like Jagielka, Walker, Cahill, Dyer and even seeing players like Tonge cracking one in against the unwashed the other week makes me sad. Beyond sad in fact. We had all that and we pissed it away. The football I have seen us play this season is beyond a joke in comparison to what we were playing and the level is not much above that of pub league. Bypassed by clubs like Swansea City, Stoke and Peterborough United. Barnsley in a higher league and worse still Leeds and them. It isn't good.
The last few years have been beyond the worst case scenario many could have expected. Even when we were relegated from the Premiership we thought we were going to at worst bob around the Championship for a while.
So, yes I understand totally why people complain about it going wrong, but right now we appear to have bottomed out and be slowly making our way back. Look at clubs like Forest, Leeds, Southampton to name but three. All have plumbed similar depths and worse. If we get promoted this season I really don't care how we do it, but do it we must. Its painful, its poor quality and its sad to see our remaining decent players either in clink or elsewhere for buttons. But if we get back to where we were in the Championship I think we may have had a lucky escape. I don't think we will ever know how close SUFC were to going into Administration but I understand it was closer than many would ever wish to see.
