Is that Reece Brown that shanks it to their player and then also doesn't bother trying to cut out the cross for their first?
He had a mare all night bar a couple of decent crosses ,Hussey likewise, his lack of effort to defend the first goal wont go down well ,felt a bit for OConnell ,he must have wondered where he was.

Just from those highlights we look overrun. Losing the ball because of their high press, not chasing back when we do. Let's hope it was just because of a healthy disrespect for this atrocious competition and not that we're slipping back into bad habits.

Hoping you're right, as I was going to change my avatar now we were starting to improve :-)

From those highlights it appears that Reece Brown had an absolute shocker: shanking the ball backwards before the first goal, sloppy pass straight to their man before the long range effort, going AWOL before the second goal. Looks like we're pinning our hopes on Freeman staying injury-free until the end of the season.

He actually pulled his hamstring so no chase.

Watching the 10 minute highlights of dawdling on the ball, passing it man to man before losing it somewhere silly - was the whole game like this? Also how many chances did Matt Done miss?

Brown put three consecutive great balls in the box, that we should have made more of, looks like he needs to get a load of game time to get up to speed though. We started off well, had a ton of possession and the first goal came against the run of play. Then their pace started to tell and we came unglued for a time, no one marking the bloke for the second goal.

Oh, and their number 10 was about a foot smaller than Scougall, I kid you not.

Only Basham with any height, so balls pumped over the top (from either team) fell to them mainly. Fleck, Scougall, Duffy all a similar height and build, as is Matt Done.

Moore pulled off some great saves.

He had 2 lowish header chances he could / should maybe have converted but to be fair he didn't really see them coming and they flew by him untouched . I seem to remember him being offside at least 3 times but i also thought the linesman was a bit slow keeping up with play.
We looked vulnerable when they broke as it sounds we did against Fleetwood. Have the opposition got us sussed already?

Especially the one with his feet / legs.

at least it settles a few arguments about who our "A" team are.

that defence had shades of the first 4 games written all over it - hopefully not lost on CW & AK

Didn't Paul score against Leicester in the earlier round? It was the first in the penalty shoot out but still counts as a goal for us

That wont count but if he had missed it ,they would still be going on about it.

"Lads, I need you to go out, and do exactly enough so it doesn't look like we're taking the piss and just handing this game over to Walsall. Don't work too hard. Anyone that pulls a hammy or tweaks an ankle working too hard in this pointless, tin-pot, even-less-respectable-than-it-was-last-season trophy is getting fined a month's wages. Sorted? Sorted."

With the exception of 2 decent crosses at the end of the first half Brown had a truly woeful game. At fault twice for the first he was aught out of position for the second. He immediately hobbled back as if injured then continued as normal after our restart. Very unimpressed. Appreciate he may not be up to speed but he attitude wasn't that great either for a player who really needs to prove himself. He wasn't the only one though with Moore, Brooks, Coutts and maybe Bash the only ones with any credit from the game. How James Shield thought Duffy had a good game is beyond me. He must either have been at a different game or need to apply for a white stick

If Shields has really said that ,he either wasn't there or should never report on football again as he clearly has no idea. It was truly one of the worst individual performances I have seen from a senior player at the Lane.

That first goal was poor from Hussey as well as Brown. Hussey only had Bakayoko to mark. It seemed unlikely that a scenario would shortly develop where the ball would fall to him, but a good defender covers for the worst case scenario. Hussey was nowhere near him and he had time to bring the ball down.

Brown was absolutely awful last night...
Barring for the goal Coutts was also awful, and I don't know how Brown managed to wangle a contract :/ Whiteman looked good when he came on - seeing how we are desperatly in need of a ball playing, forward looking mind fielder, does anyone know why CW hasn't given him a start in this naff competition?

I don't want to frighten anybody but watching Brown gave me uncomfortable flashbacks to Hallam FC when I first saw Darryl Westlake.

Wont get into the Coutts thing just look at the ratings ,and Whiteman had about 3 touches only one of them good ,bonkers post.
