Project Restart - Hoping for 8th June

With test & trace does this mean that if one player gets it, the whole squad / management of that team will have to self isolate for 14 days? If so, doesn’t that put the season finishing into jeopardy?

Need to get this Villa game won ASAP as PPG could still be an issue!

They'll continue to be tested, so I assume that a negative test result means they don't need to self isolate.

Without naming names and dragging up old posts what do those who said a restart would never happen think about the latest news?

Di you still think it shouldn’t happen? Won’t happen? Will restart but then get stopped again?

Do you still think it should be called null and void?
No promotion, relegation or Euro qualification for anyone?
Concentrate on being ready to play next season?

I’m genuinely interested if people have changed their minds as things have developed or if they’re just keeping their thoughts to themselves now?

I will be honest I was vocal about it not starting. I wanted the season finishing but when it was safe/right time to resume. I am strongly against voiding the season but felt there were/are too many complications for a restart and felt we would be looking at Aug/Sept time when the R rate is hopefully a lot lower. It does seem money has driven through this rush to get it finished and pressure from TV companies has been the main factor.

I still am concerned despite all the excitement about it potentially coming back that we may see a few twists before a ball is kicked. I don't think it's definite games will start on scheduled date. I also would not be shocked if the season is still curtailed/abandoned at some point. All the opposition from clubs now will come back again if larger numbers test positive and I still see a situation where larger numbers contracting it in teams now contact has started, will see teams potentially refusing to play and snowball affect. Be interesting to see the results in a week or so now contact training has started.

It will only take one large number at a club to contract it and then the lot is done. That has not happened in Germany yet which is promising but there does seem a greater will and organisation over there. The number of lower clubs determined to sabotage before a ball has been kicked means we will see a lot of skullduggery sadly in an attempt to delay/curtail. You watch when a team at the bottom struggles for a few games and we will see lots of players developing symptoms in an attempt to see games called off.

I think there is a long way to go still to start the season and even longer way to go to finish. Announcing a date and fixtures is one thing but getting to a start and a completion is another. It would be hypocritical for me to turn around and say otherwise after what I thought/said. If the games happen and are all completed I will gladly say I was wrong. I got pelters for saying it would be unlikely we would see fans again in 2020 but that seems quite likely now and feel 2021-22 still will be next time we see full grounds. Many clubs will sadly go bust as a result and the pyramid won't look the same. Other sports will be affected even more with many pro leagues even in football (bottom two divs maybe?) going part time.

As for the games...if they happen..I will watch United of course and some others and sure first week everyone will be excited but after that dies down...people will realise it's a bit shit. There's no alternative to no fans of course but let's not sugercoat it, it's not the same. Yes, it's better than nothing and will be the norm for the rest of 2020 but I think people (unless watching your own club) might be shocked how quickly they lose interest (own teams games apart). I watched one game in the Bundesliga (yes I know it's not our league) and barely been interested since. I hope the PL grips me more of course.

It’s going to be simultaneously awful (compared with normal) and amazing (compared with three months of monotony* and very few live events taking place). It’ll quickly have the feel of a pre-season tournament, but I’ll still enjoy it if we continue to do well.

* if you’re lucky. Misery if not.

I think you are right here. Playing the covid card will be the new shitehousery from those with least to gain from the season continuing to a conclusion.

And they know that they can’t be called out on it.

They'll have to prove it though. Tests are carried out by a third party and relayed to the Prem, wouldn't think they'd be able to say X amount of players are unavailable without the tests to back it up.

The players are independently tested twice a week using the same outsourced company. There are limitations to the testing (the main one being that you can have the virus and be contagious and still turn up a negative test initially) but the idea that teams are going to suddenly “play the COVID card” seems right up there on the Ickeometer.

All you have to do is say you feel ill and are isolating. Yes you will be tested, but if you do that on the morning of the game it’s already too late.

The fixtures are still in the correct order. The only thing different is we now play Villa before Newcastle

The Man U game had been. Postponed due to the cup so has spited back in and now they’ve also rescheduled the cup for a different sequence.

The current season should be put into hibernation until June 1st,then complete all matches within June early July, then have a break until September 1st when new season begins.

Cancel Euro 2020 until 2021.

Only applies if this virus is under control,if out of control past the summer months then God help us all, sport wont matter.

To use the old saying, the lads are looking "lean and mean"

Yeah looking pretty good. I think one thing we can all agree on is that no stone will have been left unturned during this layoff re their fitness, diet etc so they should come back as good as anyone.

I prefer the type where a guy goes home from work 100% safe in the knowledge he’s not passing on an invisible death sentence to a child who may be vulnerable!
and for those who haven't been listening EPL football players are going to be some of the safest people in the world much safer than the following:
Anybody else who has had to go to work and come into contact with other people or even just the things they have touched.
People who chose to ignore the consequences of them doing as they please
Etc...

0 positive tests in the latest round of testing all PL staff, looking good for the 17th then.

Yes looking good but not so good for the Championship 10 positive tests across 7 clubs. Not sure why there is such a discrepancy between the two unless EPL players have been looking after themselves better?

That's over the 3 leagues so not so bad for 72 clubs. Edit see most in the Championship.

The injury rate in the Bundesliga is being used as an excuse by the media for players going back too soon and the need for some friendly matches before they start the season.

I'd have no issue with it but seems they are pushing ahead regardless. With our smaller squad I hope it doesn't hit us harder than others. With talk of a two week off season doesn't seem like a usual pre season on the other side either.

Karren Brady doesn’t say what her preferred alternative to PPG would be but I suspect that it’s calling the season null and void and everybody starting again on zero points.

PPG or “keep restarting this season until all 38 games have been played” should be the only options made available in the event of another pause being necessary.

Pretty sure the EPL have said null and void isn't an option

Karen Bradys agenda is no relegation. She mentions it in the article. Its what has driven all the whinging coming from her and the likes of Brighton and Watford. The FA have already said no relegation is not acceptable and null and void is off the table but that won't stop them trying every trick in the book to find a way to avoid the inevitable. They would rather stop the restart than play with the risk of relegation hanging over them. Even if the EPL complete the season they will be looking closely at the Championship and will cry no promotion if 46 games are not completed.

She says the meeting is going to be long that smacks of I'll scream and scream till I get my own way. The problem is Self Interest FC only need one more to waiver and they'll impose a condition on the EPL that they won't be able to invoke. Playing matches without the threat of relegation is pointless Brady knows this so the natural default in her mind is null and void or status quo. Its blatant and the majority of Clubs need to call it out and insist on rule changes that prevent self interests groups from profiting from unique situations in future.

If Self Interest FC don't get their own way this week then expect a catalogue of complaints about project restart such as starting too early, neutral venues, too many injuries, Covid 19 exposure, weakened teams etc and the best one of all that she keeps quoting " the Integrity of the League is at stake". The only ones displaying a lack of integrity are those in the Karen Brady camp.
