PL have just said its very good news that testing has shown it can be monitored and is okay with the low number.

Out of the 6 there was 1 player and 2 staff from Watford. (I reckon this is the real reason why Deeney doesnt want to train).
Now the PFA are wanting to know more about BAME people being more prone to getting the virus.

Hull City want the Championship season to be voided, as the club's "primary concern throughout this difficult time has been for the health and safety of our players and staff"

Hull are currently 4th from bottom, one place above the relegation places

Danny Rose says " I could be potentially risking my health for people’s entertainment and that’s not something I want to be involved in if I’m honest.”

Hm, perhaps he should have picked a career other than a contact sport where non-corona injuries are common?

I don't understand why people have a issue with players not wanting, or needing, to risk it. Fair enough their own choice.

Totally up to them and their clubs how they deal with that going forward.

Deeney says he doesn't feel it's safe to play considering personal circumstances... fair enough, gets my sympathy.

Rose says country can fuckoff, people are treating players like Lab Rats - think he's a prick.

2 different ways of going about this.

It's still his opinion and life. I couldn't care less. I don't understand why anyone would. Totally his choice.

I'm with SellyOakBlade on this one. I have no problem players deciding that they don't want to be involved but they should simply be told to stay at home and not get paid.

We are looking to open up our offices within the next few weeks and have accepted that despite us doing all we can to make them safe (meeting Covid-19 Health and safety compliance measures), some people may not want to return to work. That's their decision and we've told them that it won't impact their careers but they will be expected to take holidays, sick leave or not be paid UNLESS they are shielding or living with someone at high risk. We as a business have to get on with things even with some key staff being unavailable.

It is, but I have zero sympathy towards his position when that's his attitude.

EDIT: And considering his previous revelations of actually hating playing football, he should use this as a fantastic opportunity to fuckoff from the sport and the millions it pays him.

If they were employed by any other employer
Deeney would be furloughed on £2.5k pm max and Rose wouldn’t get paid if there’s no need to shield !

Apply those rules and watch !

Given we still haven't tested carehome staff on a regular basis and the horrific numbers still keep climbing, I would much rather our club abandon Restart and hand over all our testing facilities to the cities care homes rather than continue with a meaningless entertainment for the morally ignorant and the financial satisfaction of millionaires. Then get the lawyers to focus on this garbage governments negligence and those politico's who treated CV19 like a normal everyday flu.
That's why we're so far behind the likes of Germany in handling this pandemic- it is a 3rd Coronavirus in 17years and they have not learnt from the other 2.

Free tests are available to anyone over the age of 5 who have the symptoms. If this is the case the government should be able to test people in care homes without the need for the PL tests. Instead of trying to hit a 100,000 tests per day target move these all to care homes. Nothing to do with PL and their testing.

You also missed out all the stadium staff who are like you and me and get a normal wage getting the PL back will help towards safeguarding their jobs. Football clubs are a business same as everyone else.

It's not footballs authority to pay for tests for other sectors. All tests and safety measures are being self funded to make their work place as safe as possible. The fact it is a very wealthy sport has nothing to do with care homes etc. Like it or not sport and particularly premier League is a source of tax income and provides incomes to many ordinary people.
The last time I looked this was a football forum

So you'd abandon the season as a club, so we can hand over 40 kits to the cities care homes?

In fairness to him, it wasn't that he hated playing. He said he wanted to enjoy football as much as he can for the five years or so he had left but that he couldn't wait to see the back of it, due to the lack of action over incidents of racism in the game and the general politics in football. I do agree that he's being a bit of a fanny over the coronavirus situation, though.

From what I've read there's a surprising number of people in the game who actually don't like or enjoy playing. I suppose if it's all you've ever known since being a kid and the money is decent, you might as well stick it out as long as possible and make your later life that bit easier financially.

I suppose I'm different but I just adore the game. I used to play 5-a-side 3 times a week - dore, pitz and Sheff Uni, county senior sat and meadowhall sunday, if a game was on and somebody needed a player I'd turn up as ringer.

Yeah I'm sure if footballers refuse to play the government will suddenly start giving a fuck

Fully understand the concern of some players due to their personal circumstances and it's only human many may be apprehensive just like any of us returning to work whether we're healthy in general or not.

However, it's abundantly clear some clubs and their representatives are trying to influence things due to their precarious league position.

What is really annoying though is the few players who suddenly think they should sit doing nothing on full pay and not be used for other's entertainment. So not only do you think you're not an employee, but you clearly have fuck all respect for all the other more modestly paid people employed at your own club and the football industry in general.

Agree with you. So, say the PL just cancel the season and don't have any relegation or have ppg and Watford are safe - what's Troy Deeney going to do in August/September when Watford are still a PL side ready to start next season. The virus is still here kids, it aint going anywhere just yet. What's he going to do - do you think he'll suddenly find it in him to play - you bet he will !

Don't get me wrong I have sympathy with anybody worrying about this virus (as I do too) but footballers need to think about the thousands upon thousands of low paid workers who have been working throughout this whole pandemic. If Troy Deeney really wanted his family to be safe, he could book himself into a hotel for 8 weeks or so and do his paid job.

It's not what you say tmits how you say it.

Fine line between having sympathy for Deeney, and thinking Rose is acting somewhat self entitled.

All I know is that if I told my employer "I didnt fancy it" then it would be a short conversation followed by me applying for universal credit.

I have sympathy for Deeney - I also have some sympathy with Rose (even if I think he is being a bit precious).

I have no sympathy for anyone who suggests that the season shouldn`t resume, or see relegation cancelled, because a small minority of players have decided that they don`t want to play.

If you do that, all that will happen next year is players from -insert team here- will refuse to play because of -insert reason here- leading to calls that relegation should be scrapped for that season as well.

perhaps we should keep politics on the thread where it's supposed to be rather than invading our football discussion :tumbleweed::eek:

It's a reasonable point, but then surely all the obscene money in football should be spent on care homes, preventing disease and other 'good' causes all the time. Or do we stop caring next season?

Edit: just seen last post. I agree not the place.

Edit 2: I'm not saying that this is necessarily what I think...

To be fair there is probably more money to be had on Universal Credit than there is working for Crab Industries. 😄
