Progress on upgrading the Lane for Premier League?

The thing I would add to the South, is stainless steel panels where it says "The Blades" and have "The Blades" mounted on the pillars, maybe have them light up when we play at night."

South stand looks quality has far more character and history than all the other soulless bowls
"Quality" isn't a word I'd use to be fair.
I get where your coming from, but times change, if it was a building in town, without the United paraphernalia, then it would likely be pulled down.
I think the powers need to look to modernise it, bring it more up to date, and get shut of the big dated concrete stantions the adhorn the front of the ground, look more toward how the academy stands, that's a decent looking building in my opinion.??

Thing is with glass frontage, is that'll date in a few years. It's like the designs they did for the big upgrades a few years back, they look naff now, like a late 90s shopping centre. Old Trafford looks very 90s too.

Need to go for something more timeless, weird, or something not currently in that it might come in in the future.

Old red bricks, and steel, something that represents the city a bit more. That's what we should be building with for expansions, like Liverpool. I think their new main stand is glorious and will age well.

A bloody good wesh would help the South in the meantime, and a less scattergun approach to signage.

I think a proper sign for "The Tony Currie Stand" and painting the "T h e B l a d e s" bit and putting it as a proper sign mounted on the stations would be a nice fairly cheap upgrade.

It's not impressive, it's rushed and tinpot.

Impressive would be doing the south stand rebuild and having it in there... or doing the kop refurb and putting it where it's intended to go, in the kop corner.
Give them a break, it wasn't long ago we didn't have a pot to piss in!

I think a massive piece of tarpaulin, with some googly eyes 👀 will make everything look better!

True, but, the other thing with glass frontage, is, it can be easily wrapped, coloured, removed and it's better than tarpaulin!

I dont see why people think we dont need the increased capacity. the club is growing we sold out season tickets and home tickets next season are going to be hard to come by.

I also dont see us leaving the top flight any time soon

Less is more. Granted this isn’t actually finished, but never mind.... :)

Looks like a car park

For me, we need to establish ourselves in PL first if we can, all money to go on players and wages
Building big new stands will cost millions and we don’t want to do a Sunderland and end up in a stadium holding 48k with 20k empty seats every week and no atmosphere
Although it has to be said the kop desperately needs a massive upgrade sooner than later

In my opinion, there’s no way the kop will get rebuilt until there’s been another tier built on the south stand. We just can’t operate at say a 20k capacity whilst the kop gets done

Maybe not but the revenue from another 6 or 7k season tickets sold

In the real world though it took decades to pay for the building of the South stand the cost of which had a detrimental effect on the clubs finances.

I would love to think that we are going to be in the PL for decades and pushing for a top 6 spot, if this proves to be so then the ground will be redeveloped as per the plans.

Ambition has paid for these plans and vision.

History however shows that reality may be otherwise.

Maybe not but the revenue from another 6 or 7k season tickets sold - which they are unable to sell at present due to lack of capacity - and extra pay-on-the-day ticket sales certainly does.
That’s a bit chicken and egg though. You have to pay to build the seats before you can sell the tickets. How much is 6k of STs worth? £2-2.5m?

It works if we’re in the PL, we’ll sell out but there was no way anyone could predict we’d definitely get promoted at the beginning of last season and if we didn’t, where would the money have come from?

McCabe said the current design means virtually no reduction in Kop capacity whilst its being built. Most of the work can be done behind it.
The pillars will be removed during the Summer, when the stadium is not in use.

That’s not good enough tho . The whole lot-including the terrible corner needs demolishing and rebuilding, getting rid of the mound too

Hope they get rid of the netting above the BLLT,looks a bloody mess, plus i can't see how it can protect you from piss !!

I thought we had to install a large screen at the Kop end in the Prem, so that everyone in the ground can see VAR replays?

However, it is not inconceivable that I may have dreamt that?

Anyone know for sure? 🤷🏻‍♂️

No. We have one. Man Utd and Liverpool don’t have any, although putting one above the tv studio shouldn’t have been difficult to do

Why? Surely the whole point is stadium expansion with as little inconvenience and as little loss of income as possible. It’s not a vanity project.
The South stand alone would more then double our corporate, conferencing facilities, which is plenty.
Having more corporate facilities in the Kop would be overkill and poor planning as there’s not enough parking.

You seem to be suggesting a capacity reduction because a new stand would need a steeper rate and more leg room, so less seats.
It would also be a massive inconvenience because some current season ticket holders will effectively receive a stadium ban for 2 years
And we lower our income for 2 years due to reduced capacity.

The South stand upper tier would give us an extra 5,400 seats but rebuilding the Kop and corner stand would lose us 11,200 seats.
So where do we put the remaining 5,800 fans from the Kop?

The whole problem with this is, the only time we could reduce the capacity is when we are doing shit but then we don't have the money to pay for it. We had 6 years in the pub league without a pot to piss in so it could not happen, yet now we need larger capacity, mores exec boxes & better facilities My opinion is, if we stay up this this year then ground development has to happen. (no away fans & move ST holders to Bramall Lane end for the season)

Agree, it’s a conundrum regards do we spend on the 1st team, spend on expanding the stadium or spend on upgrading the training ground.

Also the top priority from the fans point of view is the Kop because it still has really poor 1980’s facilities (although I kind of find it nostalgic ha).
Expanding the Kop would appear to be the top priority or maybe the club might wait to see what’s happening regards rail seating/ safe standing.

However the biggest return on investment relates to corporate facilities/ catering, conference and banqueting facilities.
Also these days the “face of the club” is really important to impress visiting VIP’s, opposing players, opposing managers, media staff and journalists.
So I would think the clubs main priority might be to choose the South stand expansion and upgrade above doing the Kop.
I suppose there’s a possibility that the club might do both stands at the same time.

South definitely, adds executive boxes, media facilities and improves the "face" of the ground.

If they could do something for the Kop roof though, even temporary it'd be great to get rid of the pillars.

What about a new roof with cable supports? Put some big spires in the Kop car park to hold it up. That'd be relatively cheap and massively improve the view from the stand.
