Prince flexing his muscle

Doesn't actually say we will have anything though really does it, it's just the Stir trying to make the sport section more than a paragraph long.

If McCabe Is as happy as the fans with the players Wilder has brought in on a small (ish) budget, I'm sure he'll get financial backing to bring in the right people next season. Especially with the difference on player quality brought in by Wilder, compared to the dross by Adkins. The way I see it is, if Wilder can bring in players like Carruthers for under 300k, what sort of player can he attract for say £1million. Would be exciting to see.

It was always stated that the bulk of the investment was to come in the Championship, but that was before we spent a lot of money to not get there. As far as investment goes, I'm still of the opinion that we've put more than enough in in recent seasons only we've spent it very poorly. Clough being allowed to sign twenty odd players when two or three good ones would've done more than enough, spending 2m on a full back and finishing without a recognised centre back in the squad, Adkins being largely handcuffed but wasting money on the likes of Hammond, Weir and his signings being in and out in a disastrous spell, these things cost a lot of money. We've had the benefit of some big player sales for this level, but largely we've pissed money away. And despite this we've always had injections to allow us to recover and push on, to attract players, pay decent wages, change managers. That there's money behind us has never been in doubt. The complaint in recent years has been failing in spite of it.

Football clubs are never static behind the scenes. Particularly ones moving forward as fast as Sheffield United are right now. It’s just that the focus is all on the field - and Hallelujah for that. But there’s more to it than some might realise. Chris Wilder’s backroom staff are scouting ahead and have been for some time. For Championship players. Counting chickens? No way. Should the worst happen, the squad is largely in place for another strong run at promotion. It’s too early and the wrong time to discuss United’s needs if, or more likely when, they do manage to break free of League One. If I know Wilder, every player who does the business for him this season will have a squad opportunity to prove their worth to the side a division higher. But it IS timely to consider (as the hierarchy itself will be doing) the funding for the potentially costly additions necessary to gear up for a significant jump in competition. And my guess – it can only be that – is that the necessary finance will be in place. It’s fundamental to the future and why this column had “behind the scenes” in the opening sentence. From where? Well, it’s strongly suggested by back-stage sources that joint team franchise owner Prince Abdullah will again flex some financial muscle, having drawn breath while club chief Kevin McCabe re-assumed the lead role on the football side after much of the earlier investment went to waste on transfers and salaries on players that ultimately proved unsuccessful. This alone, along with McCabe’s ongoing commitment, may well be enough. But you can never rule out extra backing when a club with United’s potential locks into forward momentum. Phenomenal third tier crowds of 27,980 and 27,165 in the last two home games cannot have gone unnoticed by those prospective foreign football club owners who scan the English game for ripe pickings. And we’ve all heard those Chinese whispers around the city. Whether or not they are purely a product of McCabe’s property dealings with China, there can be no doubting which nation of the world has the money to change the face of football and is threatening to do so globally. Then again, takeover is certainly not a word I’d wish on United at this time. No matter how big the pot of money. For me, you can’t put a price on having the right people at the top of a club. Better the devil you know than the one you don’t and, besides, I think all but the severest critic would accept that McCabe and company have the Blades’ best interests at heart. Fortunately, I can’t see a wholesale change in the status quo because of the hands-on emotional investment of those in charge and the likely desire for an investment deal over a buy-out. But Bramall Lane is an attractive place from both the inside and the outside right now. And let’s not forget the homespun philosophies that have made it so.

Chinese investrment pretty likely with mccabe doing a 1.2 billion construction deal with them

Oh no! It's out with Pukka Pies and in with Sweet & Sour Pork Balls

It would be good if we could really invest significantly without disrupting the current squad too much, as next season could be the best time to do so with the momentum we will have (hopefully) built.

Someone from the club should pop in the Chinese community centre on London Rd and see if there are any takers for the catering contract. The food would be far better, they service would be more efficient and the staff would be well-used to dealing with drunk, boisterous blokes.

Seriously, hasn't whoever has the contract today been given enough chances to get it right?

Doubt they could afford it, the contract is huge

Poor Stir journalism again, dragging up a story from 3 years ago. Yes, the Prince and the KMaC Daddy G® have always stated the Prince's real dosh would likely flow more freely in the championship. And guess what, this is what the poor Stir journalist is telling us again. Wow.

By the way. Franchise.

Franchise?

Really?

I never realised the KMaC Daddy G® had bought the franchise from the EPL and named it Sheffield United. Next instead of calling each period of 46 games a season, in a bizarre twist of Anglo Americanisation, we'll be calling it a series.

FFS.

Grumpy, of Marple.

Alan Biggs is the worst journalist on the area, and that's saying something. I only managed to watch 15 mins of the Sheffield live tv with Simon Moore and Billy Sharp cuz Biggs brought up the pigs at every available opportunity. He's supposedly a chesterfield fan but his nose is so far up the pig ring it's untrue

Some reporter will be along soon to tell us it is not an article from 2 or 3 years ago re-written. ;)

Well they've already got 'balls of steel' :

It's the only place I actually read the stir...........a link like the one above

Love the comment from the pig "The only comment" by the way, and typically from a pig
"The Prince is doubling his investment to two pounds"

They are seriously worried, if they don't go up, they are worried sick because they know that our near 28,000 attendances of the last few weeks will become a reality almost every week in the Championship

The only thing that matters to them, their great myth, their reason for being, will once again all things being equal be smashed to bits

Regardless of whatever that article is on about, the Prince/McCabe need to do some spending if we go up.

We'd be potentially as season away from the PL - if that doesnt appeal to the Prince and his money-men friends I dont know what will.

Is that a sniper up there, on top of the grassy knoll?

He also had former Sheffield Wednesday player Mike Pickering with him, of course he's going to talk about them as well. What kind of host would simply ignore one of his guests? To suggest Biggs has any allegiance is nonsense.
