Prince flexing his muscle

It's the only place I actually read the stir...........a link like the one above

Love the comment from the pig "The only comment" by the way, and typically from a pig
"The Prince is doubling his investment to two pounds"

They are seriously worried, if they don't go up, they are worried sick because they know that our near 28,000 attendances of the last few weeks will become a reality almost every week in the Championship

The only thing that matters to them, their great myth, their reason for being, will once again all things being equal be smashed to bits
I think the comment about the Prince doubling his investment to two pounds is quite amusing actually jj,

After reading the title of this thread and then the article I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.

just an article saying the game changing investment promise is still around
and be hard to not fulfil it, without losing face

Someone from the club should pop in the Chinese community centre on London Rd and see if there are any takers for the catering contract. The food would be far better, they service would be more efficient and the staff would be well-used to dealing with drunk, boisterous blokes.

Seriously, hasn't whoever has the contract today been given enough chances to get it right?

Financial muscle that is

I'm very happy that you clarified this for me. For a second there I had a vision of an oiled up HRH Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on a beach in LA Wolf whistling ladies while grabbing his crotch.

You have done this thread a great service my good chum.

If we were to somehow stumble across the finishing line and scrape the unlikeliest of promotions (Football Gods please take note), as has been stated before we don't need too much.

I think the areas that would need strengthening would need strengthening regardless of which Division we are in.

We need genuine competition at fullback. Lafferty is very solid in defence but can struggle going forward. Freeman can sometimes be the opposite. 1 or 2 players to challenge these would be ideal.

Some raw pace and power (ideally French, hungry and black) up front to compliment Billy, Big Jim and Lavery. Despite our fantastic goal tally this year we have still been relatively wasteful, but within that you could argue its the strikers good play to create chances for themselves.

Adding either Jay O Shea permanently or finding another Midfielder to play in that attacking role.

Adding a pacey winger like Harry Chapman will be useful to change the dynamic of a game.

Finally With EEL more than probably going back to Wolves that additional CB head will be necessary.

Regardless of whatever that article is on about, the Prince/McCabe need to do some spending if we go up.

We'd be potentially as season away from the PL - if that doesnt appeal to the Prince and his money-men friends I dont know what will.

At what level do we spend though?

Sufficient for us to challenge the top 6 of the Championship or sufficient to walk the Championship and become comfortable in the Prem?

Huge difference but the rewards of the Prem are just ridiculous

We'd need two 'modern' centre forwards in the Cameron Jerome/Tammy Abraham/Chris Wood mould. Probably one young one and the other being a big investment for the first team to either partner Billy or play as a lone striker.

A centre forward who can hold it up, be a presence and a threat in behind is vital. The pigs have been paying the price for not really having one (Lucas Joao not been the same since he hurt his tooth against Rotherham bless him) and long may it continue.

Need 2 centre backs, Jagielka to be the new heart of the defence and a young athletic type to compete with Basham (and hopefully Brayford IMO) for the right side of the back three.

Add to that Harry Chapman, a young attacking wing back to compete with Lafferty and a new keeper to compete with Simon Moore and you've got 7 or 8 new signings, 3 or 4 for the first team.

Nice to be looking forward to us building an exciting team that plays nice football.

Whatever people's thoughts on him, Alan Biggs is extremely well connected across the local teams (esp. Chesterfield and Utd) so it may be worth paying attention to what he eludes to. Personally, I've also heard from within the club that significant, additional investment is in place to come onboard if/when promotion to the Champ is gained (although admittedly, that was > 6 months ago).

In terms of what that actually means, nobody should expect £multi-million signings and more like further building on CW has already created to enable Utd to be competitive. I'd be surprised should there'd be any bigger signings than the level of players such as Webster, Gregory, EEL i.e. £750k-£1m and most will be considerably lower than that.

That said, it must be remembered that transfer fees are no the be all and end all in recruitment. A number of very good players will become free agents in June and I'm sure CW, Mitch etc. will already have well developed recruitment plans, whichever division the club is in next season. As well as increased revenue from Sky, ticket receipts and commercial activity, it must also be acknowledged that outgoings will increased in terms of salaries, policing, ground development etc. and it would be still extremely likely that Utd would generate an operating loss, which of course would need to be covered.

I think the point being made is that there is nothing at all new in his article. It's a rehash of old comments and nothing more.

I think your final point is bang on though. There are no profits until the PL.

Old news, but if we do go up, SHOW ME THE MONEY!

I reckon we'll have decent money to spend if we go up. However, I just can't see Wilder going on a mad one with the dosh. I reckon Wilder will still concentrate on 'unknown' kinda players who will relish playing for us. I don't think we'll need too much , just abit more pace and flair.
