Did we really? As soon as we got 2-0 up we had no idea how to control the game.

We were messy, created hardly anything and lost our heads. There were three players in front of their first scorer all failing to block an effort on goal before Cooper’s weak palm failed to keep it out.

Tanganga a bit unlucky to a degree, they got away with a similar rick, but why did we have Burrows marking their tallest player at the free kick? Brain dead thinking.

O’Hare was the only relatively cool head out there for long periods, trying to avoid coughing up possession. We needed to stop it becoming a basketball game and we completely flunked that test.

If we don’t (insert as appropriate depending on your ambitions), then we’ll look at games like these and realise better players do the basics better. We didn’t have the collective maturity. So for me, we didn’t throw it away because even at 2-0, we weren’t in control of the game at all.

Preston really took the game to us. A fair game and dare I say it... decent officiating.

Obviously losing after being 2-0 up and in total control is massively frustrating, but trying to judge it as a whole, it’s been a positive week.

We’re no where near where we should be in terms of fitness and it’s caught up. With a bit of momentum, Preston ended up head and shoulders above us in terms of physicality in the middle of the second half.

Bit of luck here and there and we have scored another couple late on. All in all, six points from three games, including two away is not to be sniffed at (it’s the magic 2pts per game us punters all know and love).

There are glaring deficiencies in the squad, and square pegs in round holes, but that’s more of a fitness/availability challenge at the moment.
