Taking that, I don't think it's as bad as I first expected, having read other people's reactions:

1. He takes responsibility for the balls up v Fleetwood, head on.
2. He is clearly disappointed that players who have been seeking more gametime didn't impose themselves on the game more against...checks notes...league two opposition. Fair. He then goes to name those players head on, and I don't know about others, but I kinda rate that. Its transparency, I want more from you. The slight nuance that he will know better than us is whether that's the style to use with Campbell, Rothwell and Jairo and whether they will each in turn respond to that.
3. He is right that recruitment was slow and limited to options who haven't been playing elsewhere and so aren't up to speed, and face the risk of knocks, fatigue. It's shit, but it's what we have.
4. Pitching fan questions is a good take, for me. Like that. And he tries to field them. Doesn't shirk any that, I would expect him to and have seen him shirk similar in the past. But, his job is to motivate. I know he's taking the questions on at face value as he's been asked, but it's also just job to inject some positive energy into a squad that's a bit hit and miss at the moment.

Then we will get to January and nothing will happen. All he is doing is kicking the can down the road and hoping for more time with us fans. He can also take this “culture” stuff with him when he goes, it doesn’t work in this day and age.
Yes had to get that word in didn't he ? No wonder we are a backwards club. Oh for the day...

On the closing comments re: target market for transfers:

I looked over Everton's transfer history whist Moyes was first at the club (14/03/2002 - 30/06/2013). By my count, they made 79 total signings across that period (purchases, loans and frees). Of those, I have 26 individuals who are both not of UK/ROI nationality, and not signed from the regions referenced by CW today:

For clarity, all info was gathered from transfermarkt

Joseph Yobo
Brian McBride
Li Tie
Mikel Arteta
Andy van der Meyde
Per Kroldrup
Nuno Valente
Anderson Silva
Matteo Ferrari
Manuel Fernandes
Steven Pienaar
Stefan Wessels
Marouane Fellaini
Segundo Castillo
Lars Jacobsen
Diniyar Bilyaletdinov
John Heitinga
Landon Donovan
Magaye Gueye
Apostolos Vellios
Jan Mucha
Francisco Junior
Denis Stracqualursi
Royston Drenthe
Kevin Mirallas
Bryan Oviedo

*Important to note that some of these players were "signed" more than once (Yobo and Arteta were loans before becoming permanent in the following summer, Donovan was loaned twice)

26 of 79 equates to 32.91% of transfers Moyes made at Everton, being outside of Wilder's apparently preferred target market.

In comparison, I took a sample for United, from the first season in the PL under Wilder - 2019/20 (seemed a reasonable starting point as an initial instance of becoming more appealing to foreign markets) to present. That's 7 full seasons, plus the current campaign.

Total signings made - 92
Total "foreign" signings - 19

Sander Berge
Michael Verrips
Richairo Zivkovic*
Panagiotis Retsos*
Ismaila Coulibaly
Robin Olsen
Filip Uremovic*
Anel Ahmedhodzic
Vinicius Souza
Benie Traore
Anis Ben Slimane
Ivo Grbic
Yasser Larouci
Jefferson Caceres*
Christian Nwachukwu*
Nils Zatterstrom*
Djibril Soumare
Mihail Polendakov*
Ehije Ukaki*

*These are the loan signings made in Covid (Zivkovic and Retsos), the Uremovic loan under Hecky, and the AI signings we've mostly shipped out. Including them gives us 20.65%. Discounting them gives us 11 of 92 signings, or 11.96%. Alternatively, if we discard those 8 players entirely, gives us 11 of 84 signings, or 13.10%.

There's a number of alternative ways to consider this. For example, if we omit the seasons and signings not made during Wilder's tenure within the same timeframe, we have 53 total signings, 4 of which being made from outside of Wilder's preferred locales. That's just 7.55%.

It's extremely funny that Wilder chose to use David Moyes as an example of his desired approach to transfers, once you actually look at the data available. Everton may not have been to the extent of Wenger's Arsenal back in the day, being able to field an entire team of non-Brits, but they were significantly more progressive than we have been.

I liked a lot of what I heard from Wilder until that last part at the very end where he's as clear as he's ever been that he doesn't want foreign players and prefers British players who "work hard."

Saying David Moyes was successful by signing Phil Jagielka and other British players from the Championship is a bit worrying to say the least. That was 20 years ago!
This is my point exactly … this type of small minded thinking that will hold this club back for decades….

We want players with a great metrically and work ethic yes 🙌 but who cares where they are from ????

He also got defensive with the XG stats and harped on about last season ?? It’s now this season??

Trotted out the let’s get to Jan window which is utter bullshit and we all know it…

Rest of it was pretty good

But end of last season he was telling us all he would get it right and knew the type we wanted to bring… now he’s brought them in and he’s thrown them under the bus

It’s even worse than that. The following players were sign under either Heckingbottom or Selles

Anel Ahmedhodzic
Vinicius Souza
Benie Traore
Anis Ben Slimane
Ivo Grbic
Yasser Larouci
Jefferson Caceres*
Christian Nwachukwu*
Nils Zatterstrom*

Yep, I mention that towards the end. Can omit Robin Olsen too as another for that list as he came from Roma.

The club generally hasn't favoured a transfer policy outside of the UK & Ireland, but it's really cranked up to 11 when Wilder is in charge.

What a load of bollocks, so we've moved on from the international break to January when things might change, 🐂🐂💩 pull the other one Wilder, what are the owners going to do shake the magic money tree? FFS they can't even afford to put a new bit of tin on the BLUT roof, we're getting more like Wednesday every week. Are they going to ask for volunteers to dig the foundations up at that field in Dore next?

Brentford's shit lazy foreign players have been shocking in their 3-0 annihilation of Chelsea tonight.

We will be forever stuck in the past unless the club is radically overhauled from top to bottom.

UTB.
One of the more cerebral 'journalists'/podcasters really should stop wasting their time trying to catch Wilder out with XG questions and do an in-depth expose of how Brentford have gone from selling their best players to us (JOC/Egan) to spanking Chelsea in the PL....

Similar to Kozzy, I don’t think it was as bad as some of the comments on thread make it out to be.

My take aways from this are:

- I think there were comments made that suggest that significant changes at the club are expected.

- I don’t think his comments about January committed us to spending, as some have said. More that we can’t keep selling, although he did allude to things being different and then quickly backtracked - so hope he knows we will but is trying to keep it under wraps. I do think there is money but until the situation with the Prince is resolved or to certain point, we won’t splash any cash.

- The January comments did make me think he’ll be here until then at the very least. It feels like it’s an agreed position with the owners, unless something drastic happens.

- His reference to the next manager was an odd comment to make and I wonder what prompted it or if it is related to the above point.

- I don’t think he was being defensive, more that he was irritated by the XG question and, although it’s a fact, I do understand his position on this.

- His comments about British based players only adds to my concern about him not taking the club forward. I think understand the point he was trying to make but it’s a dated view. Not only is it limiting the number of players we look at (no surprise here!), it makes it harder to recruit, and it is holding us back as a club.

So , 352 does well v a recent PL team and 442 crashes & burns v a L2 team ,
But ,
That's got nothing to do with anything according to Lord Wilder.
FFS , get him gone
Can’t read too much into formations seems the message yet the silver bullet is for us now to work on the formation for the next 3 weeks because O’Hare departing impacted the formation.

But they’re not important.

I don’t mind the interviews but football managers on the whole don’t half talk out of the side of their mouth!

He’s on borrowed time. Frustratingly he’ll pick up enough scrappy wins/draws to drag it on far longer than it should though. It will just be a very stale set up until he goes. We need a fresh start but that relies on good owners knowing what they’re doing and sorting the whole infrastructure.

It baffles me that anyone thinks that Blades fans wouldn’t embrace foreign players if they produced magic on the field. Prior to the more pragmatic days of Bassett etc we were known for having flair players, TC Sabella etc etc. the latter being as I remember it foreign. More recently Ndiaye was a generational talent who wasn’t exactly English. Even Vini who was a different sort of player was embraced for his no nonsense play. It’s rubbish to think our fanbase somehow needs British and Irish players to get behind. If the coaching staff struggles with it that’s different and they need to look at themselves but I object to anyone implying that we the fans have a problem with foreign players because that’s clearly bollocks.

The fans don’t, the manager has publicly stated that he does.

It’s even more baffling when you consider that our restricted budget this year would have stretched a LOT further shopping on the continent, where wages are nowhere near UK levels. You’ve got players looking to make it rather than journeymen looking for another pay off.
