I wonder if he's now playing the fan base against each other, knowing many are more than disgruntled with the shit fodder he is serving up. Proper fans (like him) vs those casual, football manager punters who know shit and can't even be bothered to go to Wembley and applaud the team off in defeat?

Funny as I remember him down the tunnel at the final whistle and not respecting those fans he's now seeking support from.

Every time I hear him talk I want him out of our club, he really is causing damage which could set us back years and a great cost.
He keeps getting asked about fan negativity, how's he supposed to respond? Many fans on this forum genuinely hate him, take everything he says in bad faith and desperately want him to get sacked.

It's hilarious that he's being accused of setting us back years, the bloke who dragged us miles forwards. The owners are responsible for the way the club is run, the finances and hiring the bloke who actually set us back with a string of defeats ending our season after six games.

But But Selles.

A manager that was in control for 5 league matches and had very little say in recruitment is at fault for what's happening some 50 odd games and 2 windows later?

It’s his team now, own it. They’ve all been shipped out. The board to me have backed every window, and bowed to his requests. We had to cut cloth accordingly, and made the right sales IMO. Brooks pissed me off, but if it means we’re not taking the piss and being sensible than in for it.

Probably still bitter Jimmy Dunne and Les Englishman aren’t shoring up our agricultural starting 11.

Whilst I get what you mean.
I'm not so sure we can shrug off losing Hamer, Brooks and O'Hare personally.
3 key players from last season. And 45 of our 66 goals last season were goal contributions by the 3 above.

Whilst I can see your argument about Chong vs Brooks. My eye's tell me that Chong isn't as effective really. That's not to say I don't think he can play a part or put in good performances and he has done. But Brooks ended up maintaining that spot for the most part last season. And of course Chong seems to suffer with injures more so availability is down.

Donovan on the other hand I think looks a prospect and I can see him eventually progressing further than Brooks in his career.
He looks more direct, more pace and in a way more of constant threat at times. But we ain't seen him loads to see if that can be consistent. I'd rather we explore that though!
To compare Donovan to Hamer is a tricky one. Yes Donovan is an out an out winger but Hamer on form was the best attacking mid in the division. Defence splitting passes, danger from free kicks and goals from in and out of the area.

O'Hare we miss for his press and constant running. O'Hare had knack of timing his runs quite well too for goals. Ayew as a kind of replacement is really a striker can't say that we have replaced that press.

As for BBD, I just don't think we should keep playing him as totally a winger. He's been as an attacking force very inneffective.
He had his best stint for us up top back in the Prem. Now that we have Donovan and Chong (One before injury too) and potentially Burrows who could play LM. Why not try him off Bamford at times?

I do like the look of your line ups though. I'm not entirely sure about Seriki as a winger weirdly. I've seen it touted but would it work?
Fair points. I agree there is some development needed from some of those listed. I just can’t agree with those three left so it’s now perfectly excusable to play rubbish as if we have no tools at all.

Yes I wonder on a Seriki. It may be that he’s better coming from deep. We’ll see I guess!

Can someone tell me what “the players expected the game to come to them” actually means?

He says it a lot and it sounds like nonsense to me.

It sounds like he’s trying to make excuses for a defensive minded team setup by blaming it on the players.

I say this as one of Wilder's biggest supporters. As someone who doesn't want us to change manager and wants nothing more than for him to take us back to where we were in his first stint, not just on the pitch but also culturaly.

He's got to take ownership of the negativity. The football isn't effective, nor pragmatic enough to justify the very fair observation that the football is poor. The disconnect between supporters and the club is killing us. It's the first thing he talked about in 2016 and he fixed it. It needs fixing again Chris and I don't know how you do that when for many you are the reason for it even if I find that a misguided and unfair view, but that will be difficult to achieve when even season ticket holders that are on his side like myself are finding it difficult to look forward to going to watch us.

January is a huge month for us. Get it wrong and not only will we slip towards the trap door, but more importantly in my view many will turn away from the club. I say it with love, but please Chris sort it out.
Great post.

Only speaking for myself here, but I suspect it’s true for others: I’d be perfectly content with the league position we’re in now and the results we’ve had if we were playing decent football. I don’t mind if we win a few, lose a few, draw some, if we try and attack a bit more and get me out of my seat. If Wilder can make that happen I’d be delighted to see him stay till the end of the season.

In my head it means that our players did not try to force the point or attack with any intent.
Expected to just tick it over with the ball and the game would open up enough for them to score.

I don't think it was an unfair comment at all.
The question would be is that due to what the management and coaching staff said to them before the game. Or was it due to the players thinking Derby are on a bad run and being slightly overconfident?

You're asking Wilders literal best friend to disagree with his choices. Pissing in the wind comes to mind. Blokes a roaster.

You need to bear in mind that unlike most of us for whom this forum is a pastime, for Random it’s more of a job, fighting the hateful hordes, so it’s no wonder he gets a bit tetchy at times, especially when doesn’t have the capability to answer simple questions.

It's FFF
Fecking Frightened Football
When is the handbrake going to come off and we go toe to toe with whoever our opposition are and at least try to dominate a home game from the start.
Maybe he believes that the players he's brought in can't even do that, even at this stage of the 'it won't be like this next season' season.
It's like watching a Championship team who just went up and haven't invested that much playing against Man City.
That's the respect we give our opposition, only they are Championship teams

It won’t be long before BBD is going to be praised for his ‘unseen’ work in homage to Dean Hammond.

When Wilder came in after Adkins he won the respect of the fans by calling it as he saw it & not bullshitting the fans. He was also positive & built up the club and the squad and that became infectious.

Now sadly he’s the complete opposite of that. Okay some of the fanbase are probably a touch more negative than deserved at times (myself included) but you can’t fool us into believing that Choudhury, BBD & Cannon are playing well. The eye test and the stats tell us different. Same as the performances overall, they’re drab and showing little signs of improvement. Jairo, Doherty, Ayew, Rothwell are awful signings but we can’t mention them.

The Wilder that inspired and unified the fanbase is completely gone now. Everything is an excuse, everything has a negative slant on it, there’s constant digs at previous managers, the board & the punters but no self-reflection or acknowledgement of mistakes, especially cos we got 92 points one time. The squad is talked down to manage expectations & he goes on about how hard we’ve had it, rather than bigging the group up. We’re passive and reactive, scared to attack teams - we keep our most exciting player on the bench so we can keep it tight rather than being positive and trying to win the game first and then managing the situation.

It’s a shame it’s gone this way but I don’t see a world in which he wins the whole fanbase back as this version of himself.

I actually think that when you setup at home against Derby with ‘defensive wingers’ on the pitch like we did at the weekend, and then pump the ball long to BBD and Cannon he can’t then have a go at the players for not being relentlessly positive.

Put the more attacking players on from the start, have them get the ball to feet against a poor team and we might see something positive.

I have to admire his dedication tbh - he`s seems to have honed his writing skills by attending Nick Janskey s S24 Forum Put Down evening classes . They're very very good . I'd tell you all about them but a dumb ass like you just wouldn't understand , so i won't waste my breath (i learned that one on the third week)

No one’s ’demanding’ anything. It’s a forum about Sheffield United, therefore discussions are going on about whether some players should be playing instead of others. Wilder seems a bit blinkered in his views on which players should play, so it’s being discussed.

We get that you like Wilder and that you want to protect him from all the internet baddies, but some balance to your posts might be useful.
Ditto.

Ours was a worldie too.

My eyes are fine, here’s some help for yours. As you trust Chris’ interpretation so much maybe he can explain to you that Wolves and Stoke have more shots, more shots on target, more penalty area incursions, a higher xG and more possession.

Then he can explain to you how these games “possibly should have gone our way”.

“Should” -
Expectation or Probability: Used to say something is likely to happen or be true based on normal circumstances.

It’s simply not true. If you don’t want to trust me on this over Chris, then trust the Cambridge English dictionary’s explanation of the word should and the basic laws of mathematics and probability.

As I said, I want him to get things right but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t talk nonsense at times when he’s under pressure nor that he occasionally gets things wrong and it’s happened more frequently this season than prior ones.

Two things. I dont do stats, and definitely not the bbc.

That is one of the most comprehensive, impressive posts I've seen about anything on here, bravo.

I like Wilder and I want him to do well. He's important until we modernise the structure of the club (which, we're wasting time and not doing...)

But, he's showing an increasingly alarming lack of accountability. Yes, he wasn't backed and we don't have resources, yes what resource we did have was used on baffling ageing recruitment, but has to step up and show some greater self-awareness and accountability.
Listen to his after match interview. He said that a fan at the end had a pop at him and he agreed with him! Said we all need to do better me included.

Its simple it means stay on plan , get them fustrated and off their game plan. Soon as they start getting sloppy, games coming your way. Wilder however wanted dont wait , go and take the game to them.

Only have to listen, its all there.

Yes but he clearly only attended the 11-16 class!

I wont have time to respond later, I will be at the lane. I'll leave the bedwetting to you keyboard warriors.
