Premier league to go ppv this month

How much of the £14.95 do you reckon will go to the clubs involved? I'm guessing (based upon no knowledge of the deal, just a little bit of standard business acumen) it's less than an equal three way split, which means less than £5 going to each club.

You're funding skysports and BT to give their directors payrises, same for the chief execs at the Premier League.

It's not just a matter of
..

"If you don't want to pay it, then don't watch it."

A more pressing restriction is that a lot of lower income households simply can't afford to pay an extra £15-60pm, and it's a bit harsh to just say...

"Can't afford it? Don't watch it."

...considering the Blades are basically lifeblood for a lot of fans.

Zero chance of getting in to watch games, zero atmosphere when you do watch, and yet we're being asked to pay nearly £15 a match to follow our team.

Bear in mind how many folk have been laid off/made redundant etc and suddenly the whole thing comes across as pretty heartless! Would love to hear what Marcus Rashford MBE thinks about it.

Go and spend 10 x £15 in the club shop or donate it direct to the treasury if you want to help the club. Lining the pockets of the EPL, BT and SkySports is never going to do that.

All Blades aren't we. UTB FTP IWWT TCIO UFUMS COYRAWW

I’ve spent about £400 in the club shop so far this season for stuff for the kids so trying to do my bit that way, but the club get a much smaller % of that than they will this ppv money.

These people that can’t afford to go, would they watch if we weren’t on tv? If not then they aren’t missing out, if they go to matches then the £15 is cheaper than match tickets.

If people really can’t afford it then don’t pay it.

We don’t know the split so all hypothetical at the moment anyway, but it’s supporting the club in some way.

We're in the middle of a pandemic 🙄

After becoming well versed in what foreign subscribers to premier league football pay, I won't ever have a Sky or BT subscription package: never mind supporting this ludicrous PPV model. British football supporters are taken for absolute mugs. At a time when the economy is in tatters it absolutely stinks.

It’s not really something you can compare, someone made the point of how cheap it is to watch the Premier League in Canada. It’s pretty obvious why watching the Premier League is so cheap in Canada, it’s not their national sport, ice hockey is. A fair comparison would be how much they pay to watch the NHL with what we pay to watch the Premier League.

If the demand for a product is lower, it’s obviously going to be cheaper.

SUFC. Brighton, Southampton - We 3 teams only featured 10 times last year on ‘live TV games’ . Man U featured 21 times !! Unfair and unjust on teams like us. pay per View.

It's a lot cheaper in many countries where football is the national sport. The calculations they make are based on how much they think they can squeeze rather than purely the popularity. Take Latin America for example: it's relatively speaking peanuts over there despite the huge popularity. In France it's much cheaper. I'll continue travelling around the world to get cheaper coverage like I have for over a decade. I'm proud to say Sky, BT et al have never had a penny from me.

What a fucked up world.
Football is awash with millionaires and billionaires
who could bale out the entire football pyramid without getting out of bed but no,let’s milk the fans.
Absolutely this. I can understand it when it comes to L1 and below, even the Champ to an extent - the gate receipts are a large % of the seasons revenue.

I’m not having it that PL clubs need this, even our own. Last week we went and spent the best part of £20 million on a single player so I’m not having it when they suddenly start pleading poverty.

They can shove their £15 a game up their collective money grabbing holes as far as I’m concerned.

I’ve always said there’s a market for a Netflix style service that shows every PL game for say £20 a month - and if it was reliable enough I’d probably pay that (I pay a bit more than that for an excellent IPTV service after all). This stinks of greed, however.

Well done to Leicester for opposing it. It’s a shame we didn’t see fit to do the same but then I don’t think today’s PL clubs are really ever truly in touch with what it means to be a proper supporter.

If 10,000 Blades sign up to this , for the Man Utd game , it will just about cover Dean Hendersons wages to sit on the bench . for that week , However the harsh reality is a Million world wide Man Utd fans , would pay it .

Getting a Dazn subscription is easy, had 1 for 2 years now. Get every epl game and all uk ppv boxing aswell. Fantastic value for money. If you lot want every game without resorting to crappy and unreliable streams then be resourceful and look at an official streaming platform with vpn. Dont bend over and get shafted by the epl, thats what they want. And please dont ask what a vpn is, google it.

In South America there is going to be more interest in the local league than the Premier League surely? How much does an Argentinian pay to watch their league?

Same goes for French football, how much do they pay to watch Ligue 1?

It’s business, whether it’s football, retail or fast food, it’s all about maximising profits. That’s the world we live in.

So, the broadcasters aren’t making anything from it, and the funds are being centrally collected for later distribution possibly equally.
We still ignoring all the facts and blaming the big bad broadcasters for this rather than the clubs?

It is of course likely to prove that the Premflix idea won’t make as much money as selling the rights to broadcasters, which is why the broadcasters are happy to play the scapegoat as it means a potential threat is proven to be nothing more than an empty threat.

It used to cost me £22 per month in France for Ligue 1, Champions League, Europa League, Premier league and Netflix. You got one of the cups too, but I don't remember which one.

Maybe the French refuse to pay the amounts we will, so fair play to them. The reason football costs more in the UK is probably that we’ll have a moan, but continue to pay.

What business in their right minds would drop their prices when they have a healthy number of subscribers and are making a profit?

Premier League clubs and Sky are seen as evil giant corporations that rip of the fans. But they’re only charging what fans are willing to pay. We all have a choice, if it’s too much money or not value for money then find something else to spend your hard earned on. People just moaning about it achieves nothing.

It isn't just that (in fact it isn't even that because lots of PL clubs still make losses).

For all the talk of wanting it cheaper, all fans want to "compete". We've seen enough whiny threads on here bemoaning us not spending enough money, because a part of our own fanbase has become just as entitled as everyone else.

Fans are not understanding of anyone who even tries to run a club sustainably, let alone a club which deliberately restricts its own income.

What fans really mean is that they want the spending to continue, but they want someone else to pay for it.

I am not as dumb as you assume I am. 😊

I didn't, for a second, assume you were dumb (just wrong) 😂

I don't see how this means we'll be on Sky more? Sky will still cherry pick games because they are advertiser funded. They need the big games so they can encourage more addicts to gamble.

Liverpool v Man U will still be the featured game on Sky. Whenever Sheffield United are on they'll still spend 55 minutes talking about Arsenal v Chelsea, and then give us a passing mentioned (even though we're just about to kick off).

This doesn't change that.

Whilst I understand the argument that the Premier League and it’s clubs are spending millions on players so could provide tv matches free it is surely the decision of Sky and BT whether they do it.
I also struggle with the concept of having something that you don’t pay for because you think you are entitled to it : why ?
Try asking your local garage to repair your car for nothing !

I think if they're going for the ultra free market approach it only makes it more strange that they're leaving around 100 games a season with nobody able to buy them over here. Foreign subscribers are getting all those games too.
I'd love to see how much revenue they're losing due to people having to resort to other means to get the games. There's a huge goldmine of people that won't pay the going rate here, but are still desperate to see, and will see the games. If you look at things like Kodi and IPTV they still cost a significant amount of money but less than the TV packages, so there is a market there.

looks like it will be launching here later this year according to https://www.dazn.com/en-GB/l/sports/ so shouldn't require a VPN then. Looks like this could be the way forward!

From what I have read, Sky and BT both knew there would be a backlash and therefore distanced themselves from it. Basically they agreed to facilitate it only as the clubs didn't have infrastructure in place to stream via own website or an ifollow equivalent. Also clubs thought fans would prefer to watch a proper tv picture.

Like normal Premier League will ride it out and then declare it a major success at end of October.

I don't expect owt for nowt, I think £5 is enough and I would guess that a hell of a lot more folk would pay that. Its greed.
Watching the televised games now without fans in the stadiums is an inferior product compared to before lock down.
The price should reflect that.

Unfortunately they don't have the Premier League rights here. Not yet anyway. I've been on the UK Dazn Beta. It's mainly set up for boxing at the moment. More to the point they're bound to start clamping down on DAZN Canada being used with VPNS because it'll be easy to subscribe then. Subscribing is one of the problems - they geoblock payments from the UK at the moment. Hence my post further back in the thread.

So if it’s not worth it, then don’t pay it? No one is forcing you.

I’ll watch the matches with my mate (covid rules permitting) and we’ll pay £7.50 each. Doesn’t seem too bad to me, so I’ll pay it.
