I've mentioned elsewhere: that match against Newcastle should never have gone ahead given the tragedy of Maddy Cusack's passing a couple of days before, and I suspect that probably played a part in the reaction of club and players to the ridiculous performance and scoreline against the Barcodes.

It would have helped enormously too had we not had to play 17 minutes of injury time to allow Spurs to score the week before, and had the officials not allowed the Newcastle players to twice play basketball before scoring but ultimately we had a weak side both physically and mentally and the opponents took advantage.

Yeah, the Spurs game knocked the stuffing out of us. In fact, in the early games we were done by a couple of 'what if' moments - late goal conceded to Forest, late goal conceded to City (knock it out Lorouchi!), and Pickford somehow saving from McB right at the end in the match against Everton.

Indeed. Obviously our players were way off PL standard, but in a slightly different universe we have 8 points from those first 5 games going into the Newcastle match. I wonder how the season would then have panned out.

Wolves have equalled our unwanted record for the most games without winning from the start of the season (17). And their next game is away at Liverpool.

Not quite sure how they've managed it - I would have killed for some of the players they have when we were in the Prem.

But then you read that Wolves’ run is not an English top flight record. It turns out that in 1902-3 Bolton failed to win any of their first 22 games in Division 1 (and then won 5 in a row!)

Why I’m furious is that from 1990-1 it was reported and stated in record books for 30 years that our start under Bassett was the longest non winning run from the start of the season in the top flight. And it wasn’t true!

I sometimes think it’s remarkable how little is known about football history compared to, say, cricket or baseball.

On a similar subject I detest that since 1992 they only ever talk of the Premier League for example top scorers in the PL era, why is this? Do players like Ian Rush, and Clive Allen who scored 40 in a season not count?
