“Mr Wilder has made a good impression on me as well. I will follow his career with a bit more interest now just in case we are in the market for a new gaffer at some stage.”

Paws off, he's going nowhere.
Can't see him even looking at them whilst Short is still the owner.

Couple of decent signings for them, namely McManaman and Grabban, but it may well be that Grayson is the problem. Watched his side against Derby in the opening game and they didn't half serve up some garbage, to the point where I was quite looking forward to playing them.

Can see this being one of those games where they mostly do fuck all but a little quality move gifts them a goal. If we stay organised and switched on I think we can get a good result here.

Wasn't McManaman on loan at Wednesday recently? Don't think he pulled up any trees whilst he was there

He was indeed but I've no idea how he did.

If he's shit then more power to us!

Will be a difficult game, they have got quality in abundance and I think we've struggled to develop a pattern of play away from home.

We've only played two away games and they were against possibly the best two teams in the division.

Thanks Roy. Keep up the good work. It is always interesting to see what the opposition think of us before they play us and especially good what they think after we have beaten them. It seems that they are another set of supporters who wish they had Wilder. Hands off, no chance. His next job will be managing England, after he has taken us to the premiership.

Cardiff definitely aren't one of the two best teams in the division but they are in form. Warnock's got them set up extremely well and they'll be difficult to beat but I can see them fading away: an injury to Mendez-Liang, Zohore or Bamba would hurt them.

Sunderland on paper should be a difficult game but as Aston Villa have found it's difficult to break the habit of not winning games. The Mackem fans will be impatient and we can use that to our advantage; just as sides who came to the Lane under Clough or Adkins used to. If I was a betting man I'd probably go with a score draw.

Cheers Roy, appreciated as always mate and earlier than usual, keep up the good work:)

No getting away they have some very good players, just don't seem to be clicking at the minute. Fingers crossed that continues Saturday

Yep, got himself into a couple of scraps from what I remember, nowt else. Get under his skin and he's a red card waiting to happen.

Cheers Roy.

The follow up should be interesting given the supposed Sunderland interest in Wilder pre-season...

Didn't we lose 4-2 there once?

Yep, January 1998. Our record over the last 20 years against Sunderland is appalling although we've not played them since January 2005 - we swapped divisions in for 2006/07. We've scored 1 goal in our last 6 league games against them.

1997/98
United 2-0 Sunderland (Fjortoft, Borbokis) (as an aside, how good were we that day?!)
Sunderland 4-2 United (Saunders, Taylor)
United 2-1 Sunderland (Marcelo, Borbokis) (play off)
Sunderland 2-0 United (play off)

1998/99
United 0-4 Sunderland
Sunderland 0-0 United

2002/03
United 2-0 Sunderland (Murphy, Allison) (league cup)

2003/04
Sunderland 3-0 United
Sunderland 1-0 United (FA cup)
United 0-1 Sunderland

2004/05
United 1-0 Sunderland (Paul Shaw)

Time we changed all that then.......

“It’s embarrassing we haven’t won at home since Dec 16. Need to get that one out of our system sharpish. “

Oh FFS!
