OK they're not a very good side now under Parky but surely you understand what he was getting at?

Bolton have been in Europe, the likes of Bournemouth and Swansea have probably never even played at top flight level until their current spells.

i reckon he's more referring to the easy of journey to Bolton over Swansea & Bournemouth
Bolton played in Europe about 10-15 years ago and that was by default, apart from a few placed 7ths in the prem, they are the epitome of a shitty club. Mardy manager, prick up front, plastic ground and no fans. The only thing good about the rebook stadium is when you see if from the motorway you know your leaving the fucking hell hole.

I have always had a soft spot for Sunderland, The Ian Porterfield connections and they play in the right colours, whenever the Tyne Weir derby is on TV I prefer to see Sunderland win.

Same here, it's a great part of the world and the seafront at Roker is a lovely spot. Was at that 4-2 defeat and also our last match at the beautiful old Roker Park, which might have been the season before (which we also lost). Remember being caught up in a car park demo after beating them in the mid 80s, with Sunderland fans protesting against Lawrie McMenemy. Think he went after that match.

My good Mackem mate agrees with a lot of their posts & doesn't fancy their lot at all .. and that's what I find worrying !!! Wish we'd played them last weekend straight on the back on the Derby win rather than a 2 week break .

I was talking to him before they played the Dingles after our 1-0 massacre of them about how poor they were at our place the week previous and they might get the backlash off it and it looks ,Iike they did .

I hope the same doesn't come back to haunt us after their shambolic performance at Oakwell .. he said they absolutely kack add into recipe they haven't won at home for 10 months ... how many times have we been the team that helps them break the chains ??

No , no , no Chrissy will have the boys fired up .. 2-1 to the boys Fleck & Donaldson ... .... COYRAWW !!

Played for Chesterfield U16's at Sunderland just after the SoL had opened and they had a new training ground next door, pitch was immaculate. We scored first and lost 9-1, long coach journey for a spanking. 4 or 5 of their players were in the Scotland and England U16's and they gave us a right runaround.

Roker sea front is nice I always stay there when working in that neck of the woods .. don't think the rest of Blunderland is the same Hyton & Seaham are right shit holes !

Used to see this flag behind one of the goals when watching MOTD but don't think I have seen it on tv this year? This interested me as I live in Dronfield (don't know who is the fan that owns the flag)
He's called Dave and he's an accountant who used to travel everywhere to watch England at both Football and Cricket, not sure if he still does, he also has a huge soft spot for our lot.

I think he lives at Dronfield Woodhouse although I've not seen him for quite a while.

I know him through my cousin who used to play football with his lad. Dave is a top bloke and you could have a really good chat with him.

You could have a good talk with Dave but you wouldn't get to say much. Talks for England. Good bloke though.

The father-in-law piped up one day, 'my cousin won the FA Cup', they have family in the North East, 'he is from the Stokoe side of the family'. From that day on he is introduced to people who support that team that lost in '73 as the cousin of Sunderland's finest manager.

Not only have Swansea played in the top flight, they finished runners up in the early eighties. That was before the days of the Premier League, so it probably doesn't count :-)

Could have belonged to Natasha Engel, she probably can't afford to go as often these days.

Overall fairly sensible comments.
I like Sunderland- mainly because of how down to earth they seem compared to the bloated ego of Newcastle. I think once they get their act together they'll do well this season- hopefully that doesn't start tomorrow!

Was at Sunderland uni many years ago and always thought of Mackems generally as quite down-to-earth bordering on the miserable/dour, a bit like Sheffielders, while those up the road in Newcastle I always thought were a shade too gobby and arrogant, a bit like that lot up the road in dirty Leeds. Sunderland is also a bigger city than Newcastle too!

That was Boxing Day 85/86 Peter withe got the winner. They smashed his car up.

In fact there have been a few protests after we've beat teams Birmingham and Leicester in 96/97 Kendall season were 2 others

I've also noticed that flag over the years being from Dronfield myself. Think it's still been there this season. Fucking Dronnie Sunderland fan what a wanker that guy must be everyone knows it's 100% Blade territory ;). I intend to steal it tomorrow and post photos of me holding it upside down on Instagram. You with me Silent Blade ?! Dave The Accountant better be on his toes.

“We’ll absolutely batter Sheff Utd after the rest and the new signings in.
Lose to Forest though.”

“We will beat Sheff Utd. We’ll probably beat Forest the following Tuesday as well actually. The Deadline Day reinforcements will make the team formidable at this level. “

Kinda looking forward to Satdi neet's 'view from' :)

Aaaahhhh. So THAT'S what it feels like to get absolutely battered.
Funny that, it feels exactly the same as when we absolutely batter someone.

The post match view from will make entertaining reading :D

As comprehensive a one goal victory as you'll get. They were second best throughout; and that's only because there wasn't a third team playing...

I remember that game too. It was the game that effectively finished off the United career of Nicky Marker who had done so well for us up to then in central defence.

I also remember a 2-2 draw with them at The Lane in 1966. I think it was in that game that Gill Reece scored a goal after a run from the
half-way line beating man after man.

Funny S'land game that stands out for me is the season after at the Lane towards end of season, they were in the relegation mix with the Blades and beat us 1-2, we seemed to lose a lot of 1-2's at the end of that season. Guess who went down ? :(
