Used to see this flag behind one of the goals when watching MOTD but don't think I have seen it on tv this year? This interested me as I live in Dronfield (don't know who is the fan that owns the flag)

Derby had quality in abundance, but we still beat them. I think Sunderland fans need a reality check. They've had a couple of (disastrous) seasons in the PL and now think 'little old Sheffield United/Forest'. After binning the useless Moyes, they've now got the equally-useless Grayson. No wonder they want Wilder!

That was such a great opening to the season. Deane was just back, we'd switched to the wingback system and Borbokis was like nothing we'd ever seen before! Walking home from that game was probably the most optimistic I have ever felt, watching United.

grafikhaus think back 5 years.

The 'equally useless Grayson' took over from Lee Clarke and got his Uddersfield team to Wemberlee. There they eventually beat a poor Sheffield United team, in what must rank as one of the poorest play off finals ever.

So bad was that day, that it spawned the generation of 'Simmo's pen' jokes that still plague us to this day.

I remember that game too. It was the game that effectively finished off the United career of Nicky Marker who had done so well for us up to then in central defence.

I also remember a 2-2 draw with them at The Lane in 1966. I think it was in that game that Gill Reece scored a goal after a run from the
half-way line beating man after man.
 
I know a bloke down here who is a Sunderland fan, used to work with him and he is still on Facebook, not spoke in about two years, if we lose he will be giving it the big un and posting shit no doubt, so really for me this is a must win game for me.

Then I can carry on never having to speak to him, until finally one day deleting him slightly and quietly from any form of social media that we are connected on. o_O:)
 



The first away game I went to was at Roker Park and it was Bonfire Night. Unfortunately there wasn't any fireworks from the Blades as Mick Jones was injured and Charlie Bell was playing instead. We were losing 4-0 and a fan shouted, ' If fucking Charlie Bell scores I'll buy everyone on the kop a pint'. Of course he scored in the last minutes of the match.
 
No stupid comments and praise for Wilder, pretty good really.

I have always had a soft spot for Sunderland, The Ian Porterfield connections and they play in the right colours, whenever the Tyne Weir derby is on TV I prefer to see Sunderland win.

..and I am told Leeds fans absolutely hate them which is always a sure sign that they must be doing something right.

Bolton have been in Europe, the likes of Bournemouth and Swansea have probably never even played at top flight level until their current spells.
 
Cheers Roy. Mixed comments. I like the 1984 ancient quote!!. I'm definitely fucked!!. I was 14 and with my 3rd girlfriend if I remember correctly!.
 
One of my worst ever nights was watching us lose the play off semi at Sunderland. Michael 'Mad Mickey' Pearce was the referee, a referee who seemed to delight in fucking the Blades over throughout his career, this was Pearce's last game before retiring and he didn't disappoint.

15 minutes in and Bobby Ford had the ball in midfield when he was blatantly tripped over by a Sunderland player, everyone stood around waiting for the whistle, Pearce waved play on and a delighted If disbelieving Sunderland player ran on and tucked the ball in the bottom corner.

I belive Pearce booked 2 United players for protesting, we kicked off lost the ball and Sunderland immediately made it two nil and game over.

Just horrible.
 



I remember going to Roker Park for Peter Reid's first match in charge. Obvious what happened next.
The defeat in the FA Cup was the game when a band played on the pitch. Can't remember their name but they covered Kate Bush for a single, probably Futureheads
