I’m honestly really glad I did this, I had no idea just how many people thought Duffy was our early season POTY.

No doubt he’s been class but I thought Coutts early performances and Leon’s recent play would’ve put them out in front of the rest.

Cant take it away from Duff though, the lad is getting better at 31!

So can you provide any specific examples of people in this board slagging Sharp off?

I’ve read the ‘Peschisolido’ thread and I didn’t see it as negative, but then again I’m not as sensitive as you when it comes to this subject

A third into the season I think we can see who are our absolute key men, as much of a team effort it is what we’re doing.

I’d be interested to see who, as it stands, people think our best player has been this season. Holy trinity? Leon? Brooks? JOC? And interested to how this changes throughout the season.

Pre Pigs game I think it would’ve definitely been Coutts but I suspect a certain number 9 might have something to say about that now.

I wish they could all get it if I’m honest, they deserve it.
I've voted Duffy but do you have something against RWB's?

So no-one mentions Baldock?. George and Stevens have worked their socks off up and down the flanks game after game. Does this go unnoticed?

You haven’t mentioned Freeman? He was doing the same before getting injured, allowing Baldock in.

Yes I'll trawl through every Billy Sharp related post since pre-season 2016. Use the bloody search function if it means so much to you.

He’s only played 6 games, Freeman similar amount.
As good as he’s been he can’t be considered with this bunch.

It doesn’t mean that much to me but it clearly does to you as you keep bringing it up. It must be the fourth time I’ve asked you for examples but you’ve yet to produce. I’m not sure why you keep pretending that you’re the only one who rates Billy Sharp but it’s getting dull.

Not nearly as dull as somebody who asks someone to forensically justify a throwaway quip in a post that was primarily about Mark Duffy.

I also said I get a semi on whenever Duffy makes a foward run. Would you like "specific examples" of that as well?

Tyler, you really are dedicated to dying on some very steep hills aren't you

Mark Duffy, if he was 10 years younger every headline would be about him, just sensational.

They've all been magnificent. Billy Sharp deserves a mention, though. I don't really think he's even hit top form yet (he will though) and he's still scoring. Some potential legends are emerging this season, but he undoubtedly is one already.

Never mind POTY. What about SPOTY and team of the year. If we're not in the top ten list then there's something wrong.

I'm with Tyler on that one and thought the thread was a silly attempt to write off Billy ("I like Billy, BUT").

I think the OP then explained he meant further into the future which is easier said then done. The cliche of 'taking one game at a time' is actually a trusim and no-one has any idea what division we will be in, in 2 years time, so planning Billy's retirement just seemed like a waste of time to me.

Billy obviously can't go on for ever but then his game has NEVER been about pace. He is quick mentally and is a better player at 31 than he was at 21. Whilst ever CW sees him in training and knows he is still up to it, then I can see him playing exactly like this for at least another 3 years.

On other threads people said he 'only had 3 touches' on Saturday, but he worked his defenders tirelessly. Facing the Kop I saw him dragging Dawson all over the place leaving space for Leon. The assist for the 3rd goal was sublime and he was unlucky that the kid who 'blocked' his shot didn't even have a clue what was happening.

His game is about work and doing the tedious stuff, tiring out defenders from the off. For this reason it is much more impoertant he starts and then be subbed, rather than coming on as an 'impact player, which he is not.

He is proabably not in our best 3 players this season, but importantly he is conistent and his contribution cannot be overlooked. As opposed to Hammond, Billy does actually do 'unseen work'. Sadly it is only unseen by those who want to have a pop at him.

It's not just throwaway quip, you keep trying to argue the same point. I've asked for evidence to support your argument and you've been unable to produce it.

If it was just a throwaway quip I wouldn't mind but you keep slagging off people on this board without any obvious reason to do so.

Wow, Duffy is absolutely running away with it!

Depends what you define as examples.

Saying “Sharp had a bad game and hardly touched the ball” or “Sharp doesn’t contribute enough to the team consistently to be considered an automatic pick” has generally been seen by certain individuals to be an attack on the player akin to a disliking.
I personally see it as looking for ways to improve the team further, because if we had a version of Sharp that was quicker and added the ability to beat a man to a company the talents Sharp has then we would have a side that would get promoted AND hold its own in the league above.

And for all there are plenty of examples of those kinds of comments, I’ve seen none at all saying “Sharp is “shit”...a “wage thief”...”C U next Tuesday”...”not good enough” etc etc, as is levelled at others in the squad on occasion and certainly in the past on a regular basis.
In fact, some of those players who have been subject to such insults have in fact gone on to be crucial parts of what is being described as the best team since Harris was manager. Coutts, Freeman, Clarke, Basham to name some of them.

Why there are such double standards is anyone’s guess, perhaps some are defensive of Billy due to him being a blade, or personal friends. Who knows. But nobody should be exempt from criticism, and giving misguided loyalty and sentiments cannot be part of a successful team going forwards. That’s football. At some point, Sharp will have to be replaced.

I’d like, by the end of the season, that Brooks would have played more of a part to be in contention but right now let’s face it, it can only be the ginger scouse.

I've given detailed reason many times over since pre-season 2016 for my position.

If it means so much to you, use the search facility and type 'Billy Sharp', you'll find what I'm on about, and in the process I won't have to remain locked in a long, drawn out, and profoundly fucking boring argument with you.

Can 'throwaway quips' be banned please ? They tend to spoil a good thread! :)

If that detailed reason is based on nothing then it doesn't really stand for much.

I've seen nobody, bar the odd comment, say anything remotely negative about Sharp. You said that 'they' are very quick to slag him off. I've asked who 'they' are and you are unable to tell me. You made the point, I shouldn't have to go and prove/disprove it for you.

My opinion is that you're seeing what you want to see based on some strange notion that you're the only one who can see just how good Billy Sharp is for us.
